Laurie is known for her work with literacy assessment and teaching, literacy coaching to improve student learning, and teacher professional development. Laurie is a Distinguished Engagement Professor and a Distinguished Teaching Professor at Northern Illinois University where she currently serves as the Dean of the College of Education.
