Welcome to the latest episode of the Package Brothers podcast, where we had the pleasure of hosting Pete Grett from The BlackRock Group. Pete is a supply chain and logistics expert with a keen interest in the impact of AI on the industry. In this episode, we delved into the challenges and opportunities in the shipping logistics space and how AI is transforming the way businesses operate. Here's a summary of our insightful conversation with Pete Grett.

On this episode, we'll talk about:

  • Pete Grett, a supply chain and logistics expert from BlackRock Group, discusses the impact of AI on supply chain logistics and SaaS.
  • The Amazonification of direct-to-consumer and B2B markets has created challenges for supply chains, exacerbated by COVID-19.
  • The aftermath of COVID has highlighted the vulnerability and interconnectedness of supply chains, leading to strategic shifts like nearshoring and onshoring.
  • The complexity of global manufacturing and customer demands, including sustainability and last-mile delivery, requires creative solutions and a flexible approach to supply chain management.
  • The BlackRock Group focuses on improving data quality, defined processes, and training, advocating for a SaaS mentality for flexibility and adaptability.
  • The importance of learning and iterating quickly, and predicts a future of niche, customer-centered logistics companies enabled by generative AI and technology advancements.
  • The need for a holistic approach to supply chain management, including flexibility and regionalization in inventory management.

Pete has spent over 25 years in the logistics business. He started first as a temporary floor worker in a warehouse and is now leading The Blackrock Group, a Blue Yonder certified WMS partner.  In between, he's held roles of increasing responsibility in operations, IT, and client management. These experiences ultimately led to the formation of The Blackrock Group—a company focused on providing a unique service to customers in need of supply chain services.
