Show Notes

I delivered a BABY,  now what? In this episode we discuss challenges, developments and plans to improve post-partum care in a casual format in hopes of sparking conversations. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses have assessed and are developing national initiatives to improve care in the postpartum period. The postpartum period, also called the 4th Trimester, begins at the time the mother gives birth to 12 weeks after delivery, and should be considered up to one year in all mothers, but especially in high risk patients. Overall, the initiatives goals are to optimize the health and well-being of women and infants. Through the education of providers, patients and the community there is hope. We are fortunate to  have the opportunity to interview such a strong advocate in this arena, Gentry Hunt MSN, RNC-MNN. Gentry received her BSN from the University of North Georgia and began working as a nurse in 2003.  She later received her Masters in Nursing, with a specialty in maternal and newborn care, from Purdue University. She is currently the Nursing Director of Pediatric/Women's Health, Mother Baby and Lactation services at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and has served in this position for 10 years, has worked in postpartum care for 17 years and has been a nurse for 20 years. She is married with 4 incredible boys.
Thankful to Gentry for giving us an overview of postpartum care: the past, the current and goals for the future.
