In this follow-up to last week’s episode, Amy explores the connection between legal pioneer Clara Foltz, California’s first female attorney, and our previous “lost lady,” María Amparo Ruiz de Burton. After fighting to change state laws so that she could practice law, the impressively tenacious Foltz found herself in a very public feud with real estate developers determined to steal de Burton’s valuable land-grants. Both women’s refusals to back down left powerful corporate interests enraged and on the rampage.
