Ep 38 Why thinking like a girl can be a good thing with Dr Tracy Packiam Alloway
Show Notes

Women form a huge core of the tourism and events workforce. Yet many women still try to be more like men to prove themselves in the workplace. Is it time to challenge long-held beliefs that tend to diminish the way women's brains work?

Dr Tracy Packiam Alloway is an award-winning psychologist, professor and TEDx speaker who has dedicated her career to researching female brain science. On the speaker circuit, she works with Fortune 500 companies and women’s organizations like the National Association of Women Business Owners.  Her research has been published in Forbes, Bloomberg and the New York Times and is a regular blogger for Psychology Today and The Huffington Post.

Her latest book is Think Like a Girl.

Quotes From Episode

"Interestingly, a lot of the women leaders that I had a chance to speak with... often have the misperception that they have to be this very transactional, masculine, even aggressive type of leader to be perceived as a good leader."

"A simple tip that I talk about in the book is to put your hand in a bucket of ice (which) introduces a physical stress to your system... And what this does, is it switches your decision-making from the emotional, the hot decision making center of your brain, the amygdala...and this frees up your rational decision-making center, your prefrontal cortex, to weigh out different options."
