What is up? You guys? It is your boy, fernando, and welcome back to another episode of Little Shy Podcast. On today's episode, we are recording in Orlando, florida. I'm super excited to be out here one because we're out here for PodFest 2025. It's a crazy opportunity that I never thought I would get. We got invited out here for free for Buzzsprout. Thank you so much for having us out here. But next to me, actually, I have a really cool guest, really important guest, someone who's been with me for a while now. I'm gonna introduce to you guys the host of this seat's taken marvel lover. We got robert miranda. Let's give it up for rob everybody. What's up or how you feeling today?
Speaker 2:I'm feeling pretty good to be out in orlando. It's a different type of atmosphere for us because we both do podcasts. There's not too many podcasters around us, but we're here for podfest.
Speaker 1:Like you said, there's nothing about people just like us no, and, like I said, I mean, bro, the fact that when we knew that we were going to come out here to florida, I was like, bro, we have to do an episode, like I was thinking, do an episode at the hotel. But bro, we look like the fucking bad bunny album cover right now.
Speaker 2:This is badass. We did find a cool spot.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, um, robert, before we get in here one more time, what we're going to talk about is let's give everybody a little background of what we're doing here first of all. So we're out here, obviously, like I said, for podfest for those of you guys who don't know what podfest is, podfest is a big festival, convention, conferences for all types of podcasters big podcasters, little podcasters, people who are out here for the marketing, for all that stuff. So when I found about it, um, I got invited through buzzsprout and I know that you really like podcasting too, so I was like you know what, I'm gonna see if I could bring you with me, and I sent out the email and we were able to make it happen. So, um, what do you think about being out here so far?
Speaker 2:oh well, originally I, originally I wasn't going to come with you. You were going to be out here by yourself.
Speaker 1:Yeah, originally I was going to be out here by myself. I also got to tell the background of that story. But yeah, go ahead.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, you were going to come out here by yourself and I was so jealous of you, like we did talk about me coming with you, but I had something else lined up and the timing wasn and um, you know, I heard about my plane ticket and came in with you yeah, you, you, you made yourself, you forced yourself to I know my mom's birthday guys.
Speaker 1:It was his mom's birthday, but this is more important than just kidding um.
Speaker 2:My biggest resolution this year was to save money, and then, like two weeks later, I bought an expensive ass plane ticket down here.
Speaker 1:I feel like everybody's new year's resolution is save money, get fit, and the first thing we do is well, we bought, you got the plane ticket, but we did do a really good job at the whole saving money thing because we work together. For those of you guys who don't know technically, you're my boss technically I guess, technically he's my boss.
Speaker 1:Um, so when we found out that we're gonna come out here, we're like you know what, bro, we're gonna splurge out there on the food, eat a bunch of good shit. So we made a little goal. We're like you know what're not going to go out to eat every single day. And we both packed lunch. It's little things that make a difference, right.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, exactly. I mean saved a little more money doing that and definitely spending it out. In Orlando I paid like $7 for a monster. No, we went to a bar at the hotel $24 for two Modellos.
Speaker 1:Sheesh, good thing, I don't drink guys yeah, that's why you should stop drinking? Because it's a cheaper lifestyle yeah, exactly um, but once again, like I said, uh, robert, you have a history in podcasting, I have a history in podcasting too. I want you to tell your story. I really like your story.
Speaker 2:Well, yours, I mean our stories are kind of intertwined a little bit. We met like in what 2020 ish? And that was like when you had Little Shy the first season.
Speaker 1:The first time Little Shy.
Speaker 2:First time, little Shy, and then we met, we talked like that and I always thought about something creative like that. But that was never my world. I never think I could do it, stuff like that, and that's how most people do it. That's kind of the reason why I want to come to the podcast, because people who are thinking about starting a podcast easier than what people think I mean you just gotta do like buy some microphones and you don't have to do video. I didn't do video for the longest I wouldn't say it's easy.
Speaker 2:Well, no, compared to my first episode of my last episode, it's night and day.
Speaker 1:Yeah I mean, you just gotta find yourself.
Speaker 2:Yes but anyways, um, you know, you came, we met, you had your podcast going and I was like I don't mean this is an insult, like I mean, if he can do it, I could do it I mean because I can do it anyway.
Speaker 1:And this is like 2022.
Speaker 2:I started my podcast and I was like, when I was like going through depression, depression, error, and I really wanted something just to take my mind off of things and like something for me to put my mental health towards, to like focus on, and I did it, I didn't even really I think I told like three people I was starting a podcast and then I just announced it randomly on facebook. Hey, like, I got a podcast. That came out. Um, my move. My podcast is about movie reviews, hollywood updates, you know, stuff like entertainment wise, and I did have a different guest on every episode. You've been on her a handful of times. Um, where we just talk about the newest movie in theaters, I have my guests pick a throwback movie. We're talking about something they're excited about and, like I said, the first segment's like usually hollywood updates, like telling you what's going on. Um, you know, just keep that stuff like that and it's so entertaining to do. I might come out weekly and it's it's a lot of work to do a weekly episode.
Speaker 2:It really is especially like when you have different guests on every episode. You got to like communicate with them. You know you got to work with your current guests, you got to worry about the next guest and I guess after that, you know, get to worry about what you're gonna talk about. On top of that, I'm a movie reviewer, so I watch a ton of movies. I'm in the movies at least once between one to three times a week.
Speaker 1:Let me ask you this you said you go to the movies at least at least one time a week, at least max, like three three or four, one to three, four times a week. How many movies did you see in 2024?
Speaker 2:24? I can't remember. I think it was like 256. It was around 250.
Speaker 1:256 movies. That's damn near about. That's more than one every other day.
Speaker 2:256 movies, I'm not afraid to do double features in the theaters. Those aren't all movie theater movies, those are just streaming at home or something like that, but I would say they go over 100 easily in the theaters.
Speaker 1:Over 100 in the theaters yeah, wow.
Speaker 2:I'm at the point where I really want the movie theaters people to recognize me. They do, they have to I'm sure they do.
Speaker 1:They have nothing.
Speaker 2:You're in there every freaking day yeah, yeah, but, um, but I'm like in and out like I go get my ticket. I don't even get the concessions, really, unless like it's a cool popcorn bucket, because I collect those you sneak in your own snacks uh, yeah, yeah, but I'm the next snack person because I don't like using the bathroom during the movie, so I don't really do nothing.
Speaker 1:I feel that because you, being a movie reviewer, you have to make sure you pay attention to every single part.
Speaker 2:Yeah, the movie and it's more just like, oh, I hated that movie and I didn't like this movie, or I love this movie. For this reason, I do my research, like I do, like you know behind the scene facts, you know stuff like what led up to this movie being made yeah you know cool things like that. Some interviews I'd like to like um watch and incorporate in them.
Speaker 1:No, yeah, and then, like he said, it's more than just going to watch the movie on his podcast. Like I said, what he does is he reviews movies, but it's not just like this movie was good and this movie was bad. For this reason, you tell the whole story about it the character development, the music behind the movie you talk about the director, how it's different and similar to previous movies that he's done. Um, so you really dive deep in there.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and those are the positives. I mean, we can talk about the negatives too. Like and you I know you do this like struggle with this too, like it's your guest, a lot of our guests that we have on never been on a podcast before oh, yeah, yeah, so like we have people like talking like this with the microphone or like, um, they're just a little bit camera shy and they just give me one word of answers.
Speaker 2:It's really up to us to make them feel as comfortable as possible, which is why I had them pick their own movie to talk about on the podcast, because they already love the movie. You're going to talk about what you want to love.
Speaker 1:Exactly Like you said earlier. You said that podcasting is easy. I think for us now it's easy because we know what we're doing, but right when we're here, we're literally just having.
Speaker 2:We're just having a conversation, bro, so right now go ahead it's such trial and error like I'm sure you remember, like my first, like 10 episodes, I didn't even know how to use two microphones. We were like going back, I kept handing it back to you back and forth. Yeah, I mean, in editing is a whole different thing.
Speaker 2:Like you want a podcast to go smoothly as possible but there are some long pauses or like um, or someone said something stupid yeah yes, you got to really edit out and that was a hassle learning um, but I would say all that was within like the first 10 episodes. If you make it to episode 10, you're you're already setting a milestone. Like's impressive. A lot of people give up before that.
Speaker 1:There's actually um, we'll talk about it in detail, about everything that we've learned, um, but they said that most people, most podcasts, don't make it to 10 episodes. Yeah, so me, this is my second time doing little shy. Um, with the new little shy, this technically episode eight, and with the old little shy it's like 50 plus. So I'm around, if you, if you count it or not, I'm at around 60 episodes and you're at about I'm at like, uh, in the 150s, right now 150 episodes is crazy, bro.
Speaker 2:Yeah, if I do, if I miss the week, I usually make it up later, like I do, like a bonus episode yeah so, like I 52 episodes a year I do, I just passed my third year like oh, two weeks ago congratulations, guys.
Speaker 1:One more time on instagram. That's this seats taken, if you like. So like 52 episodes a year? I do. I just passed my third year, like two weeks ago.
Speaker 2:Congratulations, guys. Thank you One more time on Instagram. That's thisseatstaken. If you like movies, movie reviews, go ahead and check it out. Yeah, yeah, I'm excited we're going to talk about PodFest in just a minute. But you know, like I celebrated my third year anniversary and you see, I made that cool reel, like, of all my episodes, or you know, just interactions I had with it and, um, that's probably the wildest thing about this podcast, like I've met people who I never thought was gonna meet. I met people like podcasters from Canada that had my podcast, um, people I reconnected from high school people. You know all different types of relationships and that's definitely what makes things worth it. I was always the guy growing up I hated taking pictures. I hated like, not just of myself, but like anything Like I was always like, why don't you guys live in the moment? You know, just live in the moment and let it be. Now I'm like 28, turning 29 soon.
Speaker 1:I regretted that so much. Yeah, because now you're a content creator, bro.
Speaker 2:Not just that, but like Memories, like memories, memories, 100 memories. And podcasting is 100 memories recorded? Yeah, of course, because I I got emotional going back to like the first, like first, 100 like uh 50 episodes I forgot about who I talked about most.
Speaker 2:I have pretty good memories, so most time like if, if I like talk about a movie, oh yeah, I had this person offer that podcast we're talking about this, so I do make connections with people and it is great memories and, um, yeah, I'm grateful for everyone who comes on and listens to it every week yeah.
Speaker 1:So I do want to give people we're gonna do like little beginner tips on, maybe how to become, because there's a lot of people who say I want to be a podcaster, I want to be a youtuber, I want to be a tiktoker, a content creator, um, and a lot of people think that it's easy. I, I wouldn't say that it's easy, but I like you as an example of a lot, because I would consider you mainly an introvert, a thousand percent. When you're not at work and when you're not podcasting, I would say you're a quiet person, you're to yourself and you're not kind of out of your shell. Well, you know what changed? I was podcasting, exactly. So for you, how would you compare, do you?
Speaker 2:think high school rob would start a podcast. High school rob, I wouldn't even say a word to you. Fernando, I wouldn't, like not. I started coming on my shot a lot before the podcast too, but this podcast has definitely helped. Especially, we'll talk about a podcast convention.
Speaker 1:Like we're totally different people out here, dude out here in orlando, florida, we are different than we are in back in indiana and in chicago. Like I said, in florida, I'm a different person bro.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I like this person though yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, uh, but yeah, I was super introverted. Um, that's probably because we're doing a lot of networking, like not just from here, but like we tell people about our podcast all the time and we don't give a shit. Yeah it is tough conversation because, like you said, a lot of people don't give a fuck because especially because I don't give a fuck about a movie reviewer I just go like read on yelp or something like that on yelp not yelp yeah on reddit, um, but I don't do it really.
Speaker 2:I didn't start this podcast to like think I want to be the next joe rogan. I mean, I started like as an hobby and like I really love it, not like you know. Like I'm three years deep into. I'm trying to turn it around and make it more of a business now.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I love that man. Let's get into PodFest, okay. So out here at PodFest we're going to be completely honest with you guys. Although we were super excited to be out here in Florida for PodFest, when we were looking at the videos, the marketing and the commercials, I was like I like that, I'm going to an event with other podcasters, but the commercials was like older crowd. I'm going to an event with other podcasters, but the commercials was like older crowd. I'm gonna be honest, I was looking for those cute girls and I was like I just I don't know if it's gonna be the the right event for me. So we ended up coming and it was cool. We met some people right away. There is cool people, there is older people, there's a bigger bit of an older crowd, but we have done some incredible networking and we've learned, I would say, a handful of things.
Speaker 2:We unintentionally had this strategy in mind, where we're going to go for the younger, cooler people. We didn't really talk too much to the older crowd.
Speaker 1:Yeah, we're the coolest people here.
Speaker 2:I would say the top 5%.
Speaker 1:I'm just kidding. We see that jokingly, but not jokingly. Nah, I'm just kidding. Oh, what do you think about?
Speaker 2:podfest. I love it. We can go day by day because, like this is our third day here, like we still got another day and a half left, yeah. So I mean we just wanted to record this podcast now because, uh well, timing wise too. Um, podfest, it definitely changed. I go to c2e2 a lot like you know, the comic con, and it's similar to that style where it's open networking and stuff like that. But there's nothing like this, not really vendors you can buy stuff from, but we're going class to class learning a lot of shit. I'm excited to try a lot of the stuff on my podcast. A big thing is we're both now starting into video editing.
Speaker 1:We learned a lot within like two conversations, literally two conversations that we had, and I'm just, it's amazing, I'm excited, yeah, um, so we are gonna tell you guys a little bit of some of the stories that we've had. Yeah, let's do a first impression.
Speaker 2:A first impression first impression so far. Um, I'm excited to network with some of the other podcasters that we met. The classes I mean I'm honestly the classes are stuff we can learn on youtube if we wanted to. Yeah, so networking is where we're learning a lot of stuff from yeah.
Speaker 1:So my thing is the podcast fest. I think, like I've mentioned this before, is it's like old school podcasting yeah, and we're definitely newer school podcasters, so we want to learn more like newer strategies to keep up with the new times. Talk about like real social media, tiktok, easier ways to edit AI, a lot of AI, and there's a lot of older people here doing older strategies. Talking about if you want to be famous, forget, forget facebook, forget tiktok, forget youtube. You need to be on tv yeah, that was her best advice.
Speaker 2:You need to be on tv, just get on tv. Get on fox news abc. You're not gonna believe what it does, but don't talk about your podcast on tv. She said no, you got to go on multiple things and just show your personality and then people are gonna find you what, what, what advice was that?
Speaker 1:yeah, I was a fan. I think like 10 people walked out of that classroom. We were two of them. Yeah, that was the first panel we went to. We were like man, this shit sucks. No, I just can't wait to say that? Yeah, I thought it. But we flew in Go ahead. We flew in Thursday. I get lost with my days when I'm out here in Florida.
Speaker 2:we flew on wednesday because we had orientation wednesday and that was like a preview, because officially it was thursday, yeah, but we went there for orientation and like one other classroom and but we, we ended up networking that day too. We have, we have goals at this thing, like to like, get so many new followers, uh, network with so many people.
Speaker 1:And you know, we, we've been killing it out here, yeah, and then, um, like I bro, being very introverted, how would you say that Podfest has helped you break out of that show?
Speaker 2:Well, it was like the first night we left like around 8, 30, 9 o'clock, my social battery was drained.
Speaker 1:You got to keep it going bro.
Speaker 2:I'm really forcing myself out of here, which is what you have to do, especially when you do podcasting. Three years ago, even four years ago, you'd never catch me in an event like this. Oh hell, no, bro.
Speaker 1:And then let's talk about some of the people that we met. So the first time, because, like I said, we're out here networking, we're trying to meet a lot of people, get connections. I because, like I said, we're out here networking, we're trying to meet a lot of people, get connections. I don't know if this guy came up to me or we came with him or whatever, but we were taking pictures and all that stuff and this dude, I'm like you know, I'm gonna start talking to this dude and I go up to him like, hey, what's up, man, how you doing?
Speaker 2:and I forgot what he said, but he was being kind of like a weird vibe right away you asked him hey, man, like where you from, like, um, um, you know, it's Virginia, I'm from Virginia.
Speaker 1:He's from Virginia. But, um, like, you asked him a trick question. Yeah, like where are you from? You know what I'm saying? So kind of a weird guy.
Speaker 2:Very weird.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I don't think he's going to listen to this. They're not all winners here. Yeah, they're not all winners Never saw the dude again. There's no losers, though and then after that our strategy was kind of like we're gonna go up to people who are, who are younger, who look cool, that we can like vibe swag.
Speaker 1:Then after that I saw this guy. We're gonna go up to him, bro, he looks cool. He was like, uh, he had like yellow blonde hair and he has kind of like like a little puzzle on his hair. Oh, yeah like zigzags. You know what I'm saying?
Speaker 2:yeah, I was like I'm gonna go up to him.
Speaker 1:He had like sunglasses on and everything, and he's leaving. He's having a conversation. That's another thing.
Speaker 2:You don't want to cut people off when they're having conversations that's the most trickiest part about networking, like you're waiting for people to finish conversations and you're trying to jump in because you don't want to be rude and cut people off exactly.
Speaker 1:Um, so we he's leaving and I go to him like what, what's up, man, how you doing you first time at Podfest. He's like no, bro, I'm actually a speaker. I was like, oh really. He's like yeah, I get interviewed all the time. I've been on hundreds.
Speaker 2:Yeah, he doesn't have his own podcast.
Speaker 1:No, he does not have his own podcast. He's like I've been on hundreds and thousands of interviews so we're drawn into. So I'm over here getting ready, like yo, I'm a big 50 Cent fan, bro. And as soon as he says I'm over here from Brooklyn bro, I almost killed my parents. I was like, all right, I don't think now's a good time. I should say that I listened to 50 Cent. He starts talking about how he almost killed his parents, how he went to North Korea and just a bunch of crazy things that he's done.
Speaker 1:And that's why he was here is because he's a guest speaker's.
Speaker 2:He's the most interesting man I have ever met in my life I'm hands down the first one.
Speaker 2:He's like oh, like I've been out interviewed so many times, I thought this guy's full of shit like he's. He's so full of himself. No, no, we started listening to his story. He said he came from a you know background like drugs and you know violence and stuff like that, and he turned it around he's a pro athlete now he's a pro ping pong player. He's been in north North Korea all over the country playing. He wanted to meet Kim Jong-un and he tried to. But that was around the time when Trump first got elected and he was talking about like we're going to bomb them and stuff like that and he's like I don't think I should go. But you know he's met so many incredible people. He has his own ping pong clubs across the country, one of them even like prince and jimmy fallon he's. He's told a story many times. You know he, that was his club they played at that.
Speaker 1:That was badass to me. And when he said prince, I was like wait a minute, are we talking about the prince? Yeah, the prince and jimmy fallon played at this guy's ping pong club. He also has one in chicago. We definitely got to check it out, bro, even though we're not the best ping pong players. We were playing, so we were playing ping pong with him and he plays with his shoe, he plays with his phone yeah, he plays with anything that you give him.
Speaker 2:This guy will play ping pong with you and he will beat you to the point that this is like one of his main sources of income.
Speaker 1:He bets people yeah, yeah, he bets like pro athletes, football players. Um, I don't know his instagram handle, but it's wally w-a-l-l-y. I feel like if you put that that's, he'll probably be the first scene that comes up. So search below here. Yeah, and then I'm going to have to shout out my Celsius girl bro. I'm going to have to shout her out.
Speaker 2:The person that had the least significance in this whole show.
Speaker 1:But this is why I'm saying guys, the reason why I'm going to shout her out, is because these events are meant for networking. Yeah, so we're out here, we're trying to break out of our shell. If you know me, bro, I'm not the best at talking to girls. At least I like to say so. I thought this girl was really pretty. They were handing out Celsius and I was like you know what I'm in Florida. She gave me a Celsius and I went back, started a little conversation with her and the friend also, and then we were just talking about like what. And then we were just talking about like what do you guys do? She said, oh, I do marketing for Celsius, I do this, that, that, oh nice. She said I'm a pro diver and I was like oh well, I do this, that, that, that Boom, let's get the Instagram Connect Networking. You know what I'm saying. So what's helped me talk to girls is I pretend I'm networking. Yeah, oh man. But so, rob, besides this whole pod fest thing, um, what else have you liked about this trip?
Speaker 2:I mean, we're doing a lot of content, creating in general, like a lot of b-roll stuff, um, just making videos. Um, I mean, for those who like follow my instagram, like, I did a rebrand a few months ago, like, I think in november, where I just updated like, uh, hella content. You know, you were part of that, you and our friend Sebastian the photographer. We did a concert day in Chicago. We rented a studio, we did a lot of stuff, we went out into the city, took some cool ass videos and pictures and we've been doing a lot of here. Like, I'm excited to like pump all this stuff out. We have a couple of drafts right now that we're waiting to pump out and that's hella fun.
Speaker 1:Yeah. So I know it's still January and I do want to talk about the new year, because I think that the new year is something that's really important and I think a lot of people obviously try changing and setting goals. So, with the new year being here 2025, what are some goals that you have set that you want to accomplish this year?
Speaker 2:Well, obviously, more followers, more conventions. Well, I'm a big movie guy so I want to go to at least one movie festival. There's this big one called Fantastic Fest in Texas in September time-ish that I really want to go to. We're eyeing another convention in April for Chicago for networking. Honestly, I don't even want to go for the classes anymore, I just want to go for the networking because we're learning so much more from the other podcasts yeah, just learning, meeting people and stuff like that and you know that's a big goal of mine learning more I get.
Speaker 2:What big goal is mine's? Get back on youtube. I stopped posting on youtube for a while because it's so time consuming and one of the biggest things we learned here is how to cut that in half yeah um no, yeah, I like that a lot, bro.
Speaker 1:I like a lot and, like I said, going out to all these events, you learn so much, you meet so many people and I think it's cool because you're just very, you get very driven and you get very inspired. Yeah, because there's a lot of times where you do want to give up.
Speaker 2:I don't know if A thousand percent.
Speaker 1:But you are very consistent, bro, and that's something that I love about you You're so consistent.
Speaker 2:I'm consistent but, like you said, it's draining because there's no one that creative like us around here that we know of. If you know, reach out to us. We want to hang out with you, but here there's nothing but content creators, and I'm more driven than ever right now. But there are weeks you can definitely tell the weeks that I don't really try because those are lower quality episodes. Or you know the ones that I really do effort and I make my notes and everything like that. I prep for everything. Those are my better episodes. I really like doing that too. No, yeah.
Speaker 1:I think that you, if you, whatever you want to do, if you want to be a content creator, if you want to be a construction worker, if you want to be a mechanic, surround yourself with people who do that stuff, Because, for example, like and I'm not trying to take credit- no, no but if you would have never met me, do you think you would have had a podcast?
Speaker 2:I know for a fact I would have toyed around with the idea. Never would I got to this level where I'm at right now.
Speaker 1:And that's what I'm saying is, you got to hang out with people so that you can expand. We have a good friend, sebastian. Yeah, we love hanging out with him. He's a great, amazing photographer. We all help each other out. He's a photographer. He helps us with our content. We help each other out with whatever we can. I think that whatever you want to do, literally just reach out to people. If I see someone taking pictures, if I see someone with a cool camera, I go up to them. What kind of camera are you using? Then, from there, boom, we start a conversation. What there? Boom, we start a conversation. What kind of content do you do? Oh, nice, here's my business card, here's your business card. You know what I'm saying? It's a lot, oh, it's a lot, easier said than done. Yeah, but you just got to go out there you ever see that movie?
Speaker 2:I'm talking about movies now.
Speaker 1:Um, we bought a zoo with matt damon, what is it called? We bought a zoo with. We bought a zoo now okay.
Speaker 2:So there's one of those things like his, his, the kids characters, his older brother giving advice, like you got to have like 12 seconds of confidence. 12 seconds of confidence for you to go up to somebody and start a conversation or like you know, if you want to like, if you find someone attractive, you want to meet them. 12 seconds confidence. Add to that 12 seconds of confidence. If it doesn't work out, you can walk away. 99 of the time it does work out in your favor. Yeah 100.
Speaker 1:Um, since you are a movie review podcaster, let's talk movies. Is that cool with you? Yeah, all right, cool. So with movies, bro. What are some of your favorite movies that came out in 2024?
Speaker 2:oh, 24, sucked, honestly, yeah because 2023 they had that whole writers and actors. Uh okay, okay um, that kind of pushed back everything a little bit. I mean, obviously there's big movies like dune, uh, challenges was a big one for me. Uh, hands down my favorite movie. It's not like everyone, probably not even most people's top 10 is bike riders. You were gonna say that with awesome butler and um hey that guy and um, I got it's good.
Speaker 1:I mean, I'm so bad with names yeah, we'll move on, okay, um, so now, with all these movies that you've seen, um, what is like a movie that you? You said that's a movie that you think that you like, that a lot of people don't like?
Speaker 2:I don't think that a lot of people didn't like it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a lot of people's top 10 okay, and then, since you do movie reviews, I want to talk about this because I thought it was so funny, so.
Speaker 1:So, when you upload on social media, some people don't give you a like. Some people give you a like and not all the feedback is good. Yeah yeah, rob, you upload a lot of TikToks, a lot of reels, and then you notice that you started getting a lot of engagement.
Speaker 2:You were like, bro, I got all these comments on TikTok First of all, it was like right after we landed on the plane ride I looked at my phone. I got because I awful airplane mode. I got all these notifications and I take time. You know I get more views on tiktok than instagram, but um, I've never.
Speaker 2:I mean every once in a long blue moon I'll get like a negative comment yeah and the last movie I did was um the on complete unknown with our friend hannah from work, okay, and I didn't care for the movie, no, and I posted my the quick clip, like like a 30 second clip of it. Like me kind of shitting on the movie I got back from the airplane mode, more comments and likes and it's all negative. All hate comments, all hate comments. I mean if that would have happened like my first, first year, that would have devastated me. But now I just think it's funny.
Speaker 2:I mean, it's it's engagement, so it didn't affect you at all no, probably because it happened out here and I'm such a good mood out here.
Speaker 1:So probably imagine you just land in florida. First thing you do is you open up your phone. You're like damn people hate me.
Speaker 2:Nah, just kidding yeah, yeah, but I mean that did lead. I mean you gotta like people trying to be influencers or creators. There's no such thing as bad press. Because all that engagement, my other videos went up views too.
Speaker 1:That's good, they're probably going to see. Let's see what other things these idiots are talking about?
Speaker 2:Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1:Exactly so. Like I said, we've been networking, meeting a lot of people. I thought this was hilarious bro no no.
Speaker 2:I want to tell us first. So our first night there we were kind of nervous. We didn't know how we're gonna like approach people like we knew when they're like it's an easy in like uh, hey, where you from, what's your pocket's about?
Speaker 2:you know it's easy in that's icebreaker so then there was this networking event, like it's like an after party kind of. We went to the, this bar and we were getting drinks and you met this woman. She was looking through the menu. It was like, oh, what are you drinking? And that led us to a whole conversation that we talked about for like an hour with her Smooth Smooth by you, I mean the next day, first of all, I'm such an introvert, I don't talk to any pretty girls either and the next day we did have this classroom and I did notice this girl.
Speaker 2:We did have this classroom and I did notice this girl, and then the classroom ended, so we went to go chill for a little bit, networking around, and then I saw her again later. The first thing I said it was like, hey, like you were in that one class, right, she was yeah, like yeah, that lady sucked right the the stupidest thing, like it wasn't supposed to work but ended up working. We ended up talking to this. She was one of our favorite people. She taught us a yeah, she was with us the whole time, the whole day.
Speaker 1:And we're supposed to meet up with her again today too. Yeah, so my strategy was I go up to people where you from what's your podcast about? And Rob's strategy was Just start hating. Did you go to that class, man? That girl sucked and it worked.
Speaker 2:She did suck. Let's talk about that lady first.
Speaker 1:She was a teacher, she was a teacher.
Speaker 2:She was a speaker. I should say I'm talking about the story. Yeah, you can talk about her.
Speaker 1:What was the topic Was it like how to be a powerful interviewer. Yeah, so what we're doing out here is every 30 minutes, every 45 minutes, you go to a different little classroom and you learn about different topics. One topic could be about monetization. Another topic could be about how to tell a story. That's what it was and we went to the art of storytelling or something like that?
Speaker 2:Yeah, first of all my first impressions with this. Just looking at her, you could tell she was a pick-me girl. She had a tight black dress on, but with a hot pink coat.
Speaker 1:Very Nashville, Texas vibe With those tassels hanging off from your sleeves and hot pink cowgirl boots.
Speaker 2:We're in Orlando. What the fuck are you doing?
Speaker 1:She gotta represent where she's from. And she hands out this worksheet.
Speaker 2:Like we're in elementary school.
Speaker 2:Yeah and all it said was like who, what, when and why. And she was like this is gonna help you guys be the greatest interviewers ever, or something like that. I was like we learned this stuff in second grade. Like what are we doing here? And her rise to fame. She like you got to tell your story, even if you don't have a story. My story is I went to Ireland, I got drunk and I got a penis tattoo and she's probably mentioned that penis tattoo in the course of 30 minutes, 55 times. No one gives a shit about this penis and she thought it was the funniest thing in the world. She was. I don't know if you noticed that too, like a lot of the speakers using this time to like practice their stand-up comedian comedy yeah, talk about themselves too.
Speaker 2:I don't know stuff like has nothing to do with what we're learning about. I mean, you get it, you're trying to make it personal and fun, but I just found that chick annoying. We were, I was talking shit about. That was the one.
Speaker 1:I went to that girl like that girl sucked but after seeing these panels and these classes, um, I kind of got inspired, because we met a lot of the speakers. I kind of got inspired to be like. You know what I think? If I really sit down and I make like a powerpoint and I strategize a good plan, a good presentation, I think I can come out here and be a speaker I 100 because you do that.
Speaker 2:I would like to do something like that, don't? I'm not there yet I can't.
Speaker 1:I'm not that confident yet I think you could, bro, I definitely think, because these speakers I'll become the guy setting up a computer for you so what I do like about podfest is followers do not matter here. There's people who have 100 followers, there's people who have 20 000 followers, but it's all about the knowledge. It's all supportive here. It's all supportive, yes, like. So. You might meet big people, little people.
Speaker 1:We've met a little bit of both, but it's all about the knowledge, because we've met people here with a little bit of followers and, bro, they know so much yeah there's people who are here who don't even have podcasts, but they just, they're just very knowledgeable and they're just here to share that they're if, if they don't have their own podcast, they work with people who have podcasts or or editing or something like that.
Speaker 2:Um, and you mentioned, it's an older crowd. Some of these people like I don't want to be mean, but so old, like I'm surprised you even know what a podcast is.
Speaker 1:One of these older people had a podcast about goats they said oh yeah, I mean, we also met a nine-year-old who had a podcast out here yeah, so, like I said, we've had a little bit of everything nine-year-olds, a podcast about goats yeah.
Speaker 2:So let's start about like uh, because a lot of things we do I, we give people our phone to put their instagram.
Speaker 1:Oh, that's where I'm going. That's where I'm going, so I'm out here trying to be cool. I'm out here trying to do some networking, right yeah, the alarm.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, that's where it started. So we're out here doing some networking. I see this guy with a cool camera. I go up to him. I'm like, hey, bro, you know, you got a cool camera. Blah, blah, blah, we start talking. We're in a good conversation. Next thing, you know, beep, beep, beep, you must leave the hotel under emergency Fire. Fire. We got a whole fire alarm. I'm like, bro, are do out here in florida, so we're walking out, we're leaving. We're at the front of the hotel. Maybe like 20 people are out there, like everyone else is in the hotel. Yeah, literally we're out there in front of the hotel and I see the little girl. She's like a the, she's a little podcaster. And then I see this other dude. So we're out there chit-chatting. Hey, what's up? What kind of podcast you got? I think he does like I forgot what he does.
Speaker 2:Um but anyway, podcast. Yeah, it's like um paranormal stuff, paranormal stuff.
Speaker 1:So then I'm like hey, what's your instagram? You know, let's, let's swap instagram. So I give him my phone and he starts typing it in. He's like it's not coming up. I was like well, let me see your phone is it following you?
Speaker 1:yeah, so then I grab his phone to search my name and I click search and it goes to the explore page and the first thing I see is a penis. I was like his whole even say anything? I didn't say anything. I was like, oh shit, I'm not gonna make it awkward. So I clicked right away and started typing, but his explore page was filled with like porn, porn. I was like I didn't know.
Speaker 1:Instagram had half of that stuff yeah, yeah, no, I I thought it was crazy. But guys, when you're networking, make sure you're clear your feed. You don't want to get embarrassed. I didn't say anything to him, but clear your feed.
Speaker 2:It was a little bit porn. And this guy also had like a t-shirt like not a t-shirt, but like a button-up shirt the most wrinkled shirt I've ever seen in my life. I was like did you sleep on? Like keith is under a mattress, balled up, yeah, yeah, yeah, that was hilarious.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, it's something. Interesting. Characters out here, yeah, no, for sure 100 um, but overall, dude being out here, like I said, um, what do you think? Like, I just want to know, like your overall experience so far, we're about halfway down, I'm so excited with it.
Speaker 2:I'm so happy I came. Yeah, I mean, like I said, the classroom stuff it could all be learned on youtube but it took the time to do it. But like networking, like we got more followers, we learned so much cool uh things about from just conversations like what that was. A first lady we met was like she was like a, she was a podcaster, but she also worked social media and stuff like that too. We got some cool tips about that stuff. I'm excited to apply all this stuff to my podcast.
Speaker 1:So overall, what would you rate everything so far, the whole trip in general?
Speaker 2:Whole trip in general, halfway through it. Well, also between these conventions, we've also been going hanging out at Disney Springs too. I mean that helps a lot too, mansions. Like we also been going hanging out at disney springs too, I mean that helps a lot too. So I mean, like it's at 10 out of 10, like it's not the warmest, but it's a hell of better than 10 degrees back at home.
Speaker 1:Hell yeah, when we left and we came to the airport, it was literally one degree back in chicago and we already like last night.
Speaker 2:We spent the night like chilling in the hotel and we went swimming in the pool swimming in the pool, in the hot tub.
Speaker 1:Um, for me, I think, yeah, 10 out of 10 experience. I think it's really cool that we get to meet all these people. We get to kind of practice with some equipment, take a look at how we can upgrade and all that stuff and, just like I said, meet people that can just show us a lot. Yeah, I love that man and we're also going to. I'm going to have you guys tune in to Rob's podcast also.
Speaker 2:This is taken because we're recording like a same time. This episode comes out, same episode. You're going to be on my podcast about it too.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so we're giving you a little bit of the details here, but then if you want more further details on that work, you got to go listen to Rob's episode, to listen to the other half of what's going on out there.
Speaker 2:Yeah, on my podcast.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I told her that I'm going to move out here. She was really excited. Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, I'm just kidding, rob. Is there anything else that you want to add to my episode?
Speaker 2:You know, let's give advice. People want to start their own podcast. Yeah, I mean, one of the greatest advice I've heard at one of these you're not gonna find what you want in the podcast. In the first five episodes I my podcast has changed several times. You know like what content wise or how the flow is. I have a pretty good flow now, um, what I wanted to do it, but, like the first podcast, I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't know how to structure.
Speaker 2:So don't discourage, like if it's not what you want to be right now. There's plenty of times to rebrand. You can always change things up. I mean, if you don't get followers right away, it's not a big deal. No one's doing this expecting to become Joe Rogan right away. Like I said, and even if you just want to, this is a great tip for mental health in general Start a podcast. You don't even have to release it, just as long as you see yourself recording video yourself and you can look at that. You just learn a lot about yourself. Yes, I mean I, I, like I said, this podcasting has helped my confidence tremendously. Um, I met a lot of people, a lot of cool people. I have a lot of upcoming things that I'm excited for, and if you want a podcast, start it up and if you want, reach out to me and fernando.
Speaker 2:We are more than happy to help you guys out. It's fun. We can give you a couple links of what we use or, um, just any advice and it's great.
Speaker 1:No, I love that advice, bro. Um, yeah, definitely. If you want to start a podcast, I think, like you said, take your time with it because, I rushed the second little shy it's like yeah, I rushed the second.
Speaker 2:I listened to the first episode.
Speaker 1:I know I rushed, you were there. I rushed the second little shy because one. I thought that I already had background in podcasting. I already know how everything works. No, bro, the first episode was a lot of trial and error. There was lighting issues, camera issues, script issues and just conversationally it was. You know what I'm saying. It's different and still, to this day, still, we're learning a lot about podcasting and you learn about yourself a lot. One of the things that I like a lot is how you said is if you're dealing with mental health or anything, stuff like that.
Speaker 1:Sometimes you release things or you just need to talk to somebody. It's therapeutic, it is so definitely practice trial and error. Don't just release right away. I mean I wish, but that's how it is with everybody. Like you said, bro, I mean, if you were to listen to you, would you ever recommend your first episode to anyone?
Speaker 2:No, your first episode to anyone. No, and that's one of the things I want to get advice on, because if it was up to me and if I could afford it, I would get rid of the first 10 episodes. But those are the ones that also have a lot of downloads too, because people are trying to do it for the first time, but I'm almost embarrassed to talk to people about those. No, yeah, if you ask me about my podcast, I'm definitely going to give you recommendations of my better episodes.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I mean, like I said, people are like, oh, we can't wait to listen to your podcast, and it's like, well, if you're going to listen, don't listen to last week's.
Speaker 2:I'm going to recommend some episodes for you, or if you want to listen to my last week's, you can see why I got a lot of hate.
Speaker 1:Yeah yeah yeah, but definitely, like I said, it's a lot of experience. We're not professionals, we're still learning yeah and every day. But that's what I love about this, bro, is that every day, we're still learning more about it, and we're just learning how to strategize an episode, how to write a script, how to use these cameras, you know we have so much fun with all this stuff and and that's what I love it, but I think that if you're gonna do anything, just go for it.
Speaker 1:It's almost like a game. We're like leveling up every now and then. Exactly, I love that. I love it's like a game you're leveling up. But anything that you want to do, bro, just just do it, bro. Yeah just do it anything else where you want to throw in?
Speaker 2:uh, no, just follow me. This seats taken podcast. You know I'm on apple spotify instagram, tiktok. If tiktok's still here by the time it comes out, yeah, if tiktok's still here, um, yeah, but go and follow me on my personal page. Robert underscore, miranda yeah, cool.
Speaker 1:I'll make sure to tag this Seat's Taken and Robert Miranda on all social media platforms. Like I said, tune in to Robert's episode. He's also going to be uploading on Apple and Spotify so you can check out more details from Podfest. We'll talk about our vacation on there too. Rob, thank you so much for being on this episode. I'm excited, I really had so much fun, bro. Setting up, yeah, waking up. It's like, hey, we're going to wake up and the first thing we're going to do is let's go downstairs and shoot an episode, right.
Speaker 2:This is the life that we want to live. We're going to go finish Podfest now, yep.
Speaker 1:So, once again, guys, thank you guys so much for tuning in. Listen to Little Shy Podcast every single Monday on Apple and Spotify. Thank you.
