Shanti Harkness

This week on Women STaRs, we are speaking with Emily Wildman. After visiting a children’s hospital in Uganda, Emily set aside her 20-year dream of being a marine biologist to become a nurse. Now, she works with first-time pregnant women facing challenging life circumstances and continues to work with them for the first 2 years of their child’s life. In this way, she helps both mother and baby to thrive.

Emily shares her struggles with anxiety, OCD, and an eating disorder, and how her patients helped her to understand herself and seek the care and help that she needed to overcome them. Join us as Emily reflects on the power of a strong support system, the need for self-care, discarding perfectionism, and having faith that everything will always work out for the best, even if it doesn’t happen the way she planned. Quotes:

“I might have had what I wanted, but that doesn’t mean it was the best for me.”
