Pharmacy Education: Where Are We Heading?

Through the "Pharmacy Education" podcast series, IVPN-Voice explores the evolution of pharmacy education through the lens of pioneers in the field around the world. 

In the first episode of this series, the host, Sirine Shoukair, sits down with Steven J. Martin, Pharm.D, BCPS, FCCP, FCCM, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Ohaio Northern University, to discuss the key historical developments in pharmacy education in the West regions and where we are heading. Dr. Martin will highlight the eras that have influenced the evolution of pharmacy education and practice. Starting from the 1920s to the "Pharmaceutical Care Era" and into the "Post-Pharmaceutical Care Era" (Present). In addition Dr Martin shows how the focus of pharmacy practice and education has expanded largely from only compounding-related activities to include patient-centered care activities, with the influence of the pharmacy economic model and experiential education in driving the change.
