When this book was originally published in 1930 it had 25 chapters and included a lot of interesting description and plot details that were later deleted or changed. I prefer the original words, so that is what I’ve recorded for you here.

Just as she is resigning herself to a quieter life, a sharp ring at the doorbell reveals a very rude and disconcerting visitor! It is Nathan Gombet, an unpleasant man who insists that Nancy’s father, Carson Drew, owes him a lot of money. Not only that, but this man seems unstable enough to do some desperate act.
