When I was in elementary school, a very long time ago, I ordered a book called The Hidden Cave, by Ruth Chew, from one of the school book orders that came every so often. When it arrived, I read it over and over again. Then when I became a librarian, I looked in our library and found that we had a copy of that same book, but it had a different title. Now the book goes by the name of The Magic Cave, but it contains the same words and is about the same wonderful adventure. Alice, Tom, and their dog, Freckles, discover a hidden, magical cave in New York City’s Prospect Park. After a violent crack of lightning splits an ancient oak tree near the cave entrance, Alice and Tom discover the magician Merlin, who needs their help. To my delight, the Hastings House publishers have allowed me to share this book with you until 31 December 2021.
