Tony Sisk
Hi folks, welcome back to Good2GameRadio. I'm your host Tony speaking, and I'm here with Jaime tonight, Noel Vance. He's out running around. So, we are right.
00:12.34
Jaime G
producer bands. yeah
00:14.92
Tony Sisk
He didn't say, I can't make it. He said, I'm out running it around. But okay.
00:18.54
Jaime G
Yeah.
00:20.98
Tony Sisk
ah So, it's been a few weeks. I just got back. mean, I didn't just get back. I was back from Gen Con a few weeks ago. and I don't think we've talked since then. ah Since I got back.
00:30.91
Jaime G
Nope.
00:32.32
Tony Sisk
from Indianapolis, but a whole lot of stuff's happened gaming-wise, I guess, in the meantime. So, Hami, how's it been going?
00:42.39
Jaime G
Dude, it's good. you know we You're right. We haven't talked. you We were going to podcast about a week ago, and and you're like, oh, I'm still tired from the from the event. So you must have done some serious gaming there.
00:56.70
Tony Sisk
Oh, I mean, we did a lot of gaming. We also did ton, a ton of walking. A lot of walking. um But yeah, I mean, it was fun. We got there every day. Usually event doors for the exhibit hall opened at like 10.00.
01:19.41
Tony Sisk
And the first day we were running a little late. Um, we probably got in there about 10 20. The next day we got there early, cause we were trying to get this one specific game and we got there like two hours early. So we're like one of the first ones in the line, um, and managed to get the games that we were wanting that day. And then,
01:40.98
Tony Sisk
each day after that we kind of took our time because we we got we had like our target list games that we wanted to hit and we got those on the second day and then then we just kind of like rode up in there about the time that the doors open but we weren't like stressing about not being able to get the games that we wanted or anything like that I really only had one game that I was looking for um when we went up there and it's this one right here i have a Copy of it right here.
02:13.04
Tony Sisk
i Don't know if you can see that it's hard to read but it is lightning train, right?
02:15.40
Jaime G
like Lightning train.
02:19.97
Tony Sisk
so That's the hot hot new game one of the hot new games that were, that was coming out. Uh, the first day when we got there, they were sold out like within 15 minutes of the doors opening.
02:33.77
Tony Sisk
So that's why we got there early on the second day and we managed to get the top.
02:36.86
Jaime G
That's crazy.
02:38.87
Tony Sisk
I was like, I, the doors opened up in their booth was right, like right inside the door to the right. And, um,
02:48.54
Tony Sisk
got in line and they were like, who has cash? Who can pay for you know their game for cash? And I'm um'm like, I get cash. So ah yeah I was like the one the first two or three people to get a copy on the second day.
03:00.84
Tony Sisk
So I have been learning it over the last week or so. So I'm ready to play it for real. I need some people to play it with.
03:12.48
Tony Sisk
So...
03:15.59
Tony Sisk
Yeah, we had so many games that we brought back. So I went with, ah I don't know if you know Danny, but my buddy Danny from for my life group. And we went up there together and ah we came back with 11 games apiece.
03:33.45
Tony Sisk
So 22 games. So we are loaded.
03:36.55
Jaime G
a
03:36.68
Tony Sisk
All right, so here, I got a stack of right here Here's another one. So this one is called Up or a Down. It's a card game. ah It's a simple card game.
03:46.67
Jaime G
Huh? huh
03:47.71
Tony Sisk
like A game takes like 10 or 15 minutes. ah But you're basically trying to put cards in order, like elevators.
03:59.55
Tony Sisk
The theme is like elevators. And you're scoring points for sets of cards going up and down. So get that one. We get that. That's a fun little game.
04:11.34
Tony Sisk
my My objective when I went up there was to get games that where that would work well for going on a trip. Because back in April, Amy and I went on a cruise, and we took a bunch of games with us.
04:27.13
Tony Sisk
um And cruising and board game may actually work well together, because when you're on your ship, there's not ah they have stuff for you to do, but there's also a lot of downtime. So we saw lots of people playing.
04:39.06
Jaime G
I thought there was no doubt time.
04:41.31
Tony Sisk
What's that?
04:41.82
Jaime G
thought you were always doing something on on the cruise.
04:44.81
Tony Sisk
Oh no. Yeah.
04:45.82
Jaime G
No?
04:45.98
Tony Sisk
Dumb stuff. I'm like, I don't want to do dumb stuff. Like, you know, I don't, uh, I don't do those pool games and stuff that they like to do. And then, then all the karaoke and stuff that I like watching people sing and making, you know, singing in really badly.
05:01.87
Tony Sisk
That's entertaining, but I'm not going to do that. Um, but yeah, For the most part, during you know during the day of like an at-sea cruise, you are just like lounging by the pool,
05:14.80
Jaime G
Uh-huh.
05:14.94
Tony Sisk
walking the the promenade or, you know, just eating.
05:20.81
Tony Sisk
So in between those times, you know, there's plenty of places to just chill and relax and and play a game. So we saw a lot of people doing that and we also did it. Amy really, really enjoyed it It's probably the most games she's ever played in like a short amount period of time.
05:36.32
Tony Sisk
She likes games, so she can only put up with games for so long. and But she wanted to play like every day. So, my my objective going up to this Gen Con was to get games that would work well on a cruise. So yeah but I got a bunch of little games that are easy to pack in a bag and you know don't take that long to play and ah You can invite other people and get them up to speed really quickly.
06:07.03
Tony Sisk
so like So that up and down would be something like that. That lightning train would not be one I would take on a cruise. too many pieces and there'd be i'd be afraid I'd lose them.
06:14.73
Jaime G
I was gonna say the the box looks humongous.
06:17.68
Tony Sisk
But that one's for... you know that one's for For at home, right? For when you're having, like, a get-together of friends and you're playing. um So here's another one.
06:27.90
Tony Sisk
This one's called Fliptoons. Let's see if we can get it real close.
06:34.50
Jaime G
I thought it said Flintstones.
06:34.53
Tony Sisk
Look up there. No, Fliptoons.
06:37.50
Jaime G
Okay.
06:37.81
Tony Sisk
It's a deck-building card game. We're trying to get, like... um ah a troop of, you know, of these tunes together for like a movie and you're trying to build up fame.
06:55.43
Tony Sisk
So you're trying to recruit the most famous tunes to your movie. And the the object is to get to 30 fame. So you, you just keep hiring new tunes until their fame equal up to 30.
07:09.92
Tony Sisk
So it's a, it's a fun though. Cute game. This next one is castle combo. This right here so the object in this is to just score the most points by having a grid of cards like I think it's like a three by three grid of cards that Let me look Yeah, three by three grid and you're just trying to score the most points by Every one these cards have like a little power or something
07:46.81
Tony Sisk
you like Marvel rivals, where we were talking earlier about how everybody has a power, right? So all these cards have a power and you try to get them to work together to score the most points by the end of the game.
08:00.84
Jaime G
Are there like three three zones that you can play cards that appear randomly?
08:00.86
Tony Sisk
Yeah,
08:06.12
Tony Sisk
go ahead. You're talking about like a Marvel, what's the card game?
08:12.41
Jaime G
Marvel Snap.
08:13.43
Tony Sisk
Marvel Snap, right, yeah, no, no. know It's that you're kind of building like a solitaire grid, and you're like it's it's for like four four to five players.
08:28.94
Tony Sisk
Yeah, five players can play it, but they each player has their own grid of cards, but they're not really affecting another player, know what I'm saying?
08:36.46
Jaime G
Oh, Tony, I just had a flashback moment to that one time that you came over to our place and you brought this this card game.
08:36.77
Tony Sisk
You're just solitarily doing a solitaire game.
08:46.66
Jaime G
um It was like, who shot the sheriff or something?
08:50.82
Tony Sisk
Bang. Yeah, we played that the other night at the end of our small group.
08:52.71
Jaime G
What?
08:57.20
Tony Sisk
Or it was a social day for our small group. And we played it
08:59.84
Jaime G
Yeah, right, where it was like, the sheriff can kill the bad guy, the deputy can't kill the bad guy, The bad guy can kill everybody. or its like There's it.
09:11.15
Jaime G
to
09:11.80
Tony Sisk
So basically all the bad guys, I mean, the outlaws want the sheriff to die. doesn't matter how they do it. Even if the deputy accidentally kills the sheriff, if the sheriff dies, the outlaws win.
09:28.54
Tony Sisk
The deputies, they win. along with the sheriff. The sheriff wants to be the survivor, right? Him and his deputies. So if the sheriff survives, he wins.
09:39.52
Tony Sisk
And it its the deputies also win if the sheriff survives. The renegade wants there to be a showdown between him and the sheriff only.
09:51.57
Tony Sisk
So everybody else has to die first. And if the renegade kills the sheriff in a showdown, then he wins.
10:00.25
Jaime G
Wait, but there was like a catch.
10:00.46
Tony Sisk
ah
10:01.53
Jaime G
there I can't remember this because it's been a couple of years, but wasn't there like a catch that nobody knew who nobody was?
10:09.80
Tony Sisk
Right, yeah. It's a social deduction game. So the only person that has a revealed role is the sheriff.
10:12.40
Jaime G
Yeah. Yeah.
10:16.69
Tony Sisk
Everybody else, has there their identity is hidden as far as like what what role they they're playing. So... You're kind of watching what everybody else is doing to kind of figure out like who is who.
10:34.12
Tony Sisk
Because you if you're an outlaw, you don't want to accidentally shoot another outlaw but because you want to have the all the outlaws together to gang up on the sheriff and his deputies.
10:34.69
Jaime G
Yes.
10:44.96
Jaime G
Right.
10:45.09
Tony Sisk
But yeah, it was hilarious because the other nights and we played it and so there was like seven of us and Danny's son, was... he was yeah I think he was the sheriff and he's, you know, he's like eight or nine years old.
11:01.79
Tony Sisk
And, uh, his father was like, I'm, I'm helping you, man. Heal me, heal me. I'm, I'm, I'm one of your deputies. And everybody else was like, no, he's not. He's the renegade.
11:14.25
Tony Sisk
Don't do it. Don't help him. And, uh, he ends up healing his dad and his dad was the renegade. But fortunately, one of the other deputies was still alive and managed to take him out before he could fulfill his ultimate evil plan of destroying the trust his son had for him.
11:35.54
Tony Sisk
It was ah it was one of those ah classic ah you know ah villain moments that was playing out in real life in front of us.
11:42.31
Jaime G
Yeah.
11:43.72
Tony Sisk
It was funny. Everybody was going, don't trust him, Monty.
11:44.68
Jaime G
Yeah, so
11:46.64
Tony Sisk
Don't trust him.
11:48.05
Jaime G
so as you were explaining that other card game, I was like, wait, I remember playing something like this with you.
11:54.25
Tony Sisk
Yeah.
11:57.46
Tony Sisk
So, um this one right here, this is called Gatsby. And it is, it was a game.
12:04.64
Jaime G
Is it great?
12:06.38
Tony Sisk
Yeah, it's based on the the novel.
12:09.53
Jaime G
The Great Gatsby.
12:10.52
Tony Sisk
Yeah, The Great Gatsby. I mean, it's it's a two-player game where each player is playing is trying to gain favor with Gatsby.
12:12.82
Jaime G
uh huh
12:20.23
Tony Sisk
And you're doing that by like, ah getting the favor of like the people that are close to Gatsby, like always friends and stuff.
12:31.16
Tony Sisk
So the board is set up at like a cabaret, the financial district or center where, you know, you work or whatever, and then a racetrack.
12:42.58
Tony Sisk
And each location has people that, you know, that you're trying to gain influence from.
12:42.76
Jaime G
Yeah.
12:46.97
Tony Sisk
And you do that by, you placing your markers and doing actions and stuff like that. And you're playing directly against the other player as you're fighting for the favor of these characters. And once you get like either three of the same like suit of play of characters to come to you or five different ones of a different suit,
13:10.73
Tony Sisk
And there's actually a third one. I can't remember off top of my head what that is. but that's So that's how you win. It's like you get those characters to come to you. so But there's ah it's it's not a very complicated game, but ah some of the actions are like, well, you will tell the other player what his action will be.
13:33.88
Tony Sisk
right And there's like...
13:34.20
Jaime G
Mm-hmm.
13:35.47
Tony Sisk
you can switch things around at the last second to like, Oh, this, the other player is trying to accomplish a goal. And then right before they accomplish that goal, you, you switched the goals up, like switch the positions.
13:49.04
Tony Sisk
So it's, it's a light two player game where it's like, you're kind of like burning each other, you know, as far as like, uh, cutting each other off on what you think the other player is doing or what you see the other player doing.
14:03.64
Tony Sisk
Um, So Amy and I actually played that one ah the other day. She liked it. And it's not like too, it's not too difficult, but um the board looks great.
14:18.02
Tony Sisk
so some of the care So some of the things that, you know, that put priority on as far as the games were, one, you know, they fit in my bag.
14:30.45
Tony Sisk
not So they're not too big. Fun. and the Next one is a hack. Actually had to be fun. And then the last one was like, they ah they all have to look good on the table.
14:41.96
Tony Sisk
Right. That's like, it's important. You got it. They got to look good on the table. So this one you might like, and you might actually want to, ah this next one, this one is called tag team.
14:53.08
Jaime G
Okay.
14:53.57
Tony Sisk
so
14:55.19
Jaime G
I'm liking the artwork already.
14:56.53
Tony Sisk
Right. So basically it's a two player game and, but each player is controlling
15:04.62
Tony Sisk
two heroes basically. And it's called an auto battler. So you start off with like two cards and, And then you select what order the cards, like the actions are like the card, say like one might say defend or block and the other one might say attack. Right.
15:27.45
Tony Sisk
And you put them in a certain order and then round starts and then all you do is reveal the card. Right. And then what it, you do whatever the card says and the other person does the same thing and they do whatever their card says. So if the other player played an attack card and you played a block card, then you would block their attack.
15:48.76
Tony Sisk
So at the end of each round, you add more cards, but you can't change the order of the cards. They have to, as far as like, if your first two cards were like, you know, one number, like one and two, they would always have to be in that sequence one and two, but you can add,
16:10.52
Tony Sisk
cards before them in between or after them or whatever but they would as long as that you know two was always after the one at some point you know that's would work and you that rule applies to every additional card that you add so you so you know that the other player you know their first card was an attack so now you could play a card that says block on To be your first card.
16:37.88
Tony Sisk
But then you don't know what his next. Card that he added was. So it's like. You're trying to guess what their. What their combos are. and then And counter them. While adding combos of your own.
16:51.67
Tony Sisk
So I think you would like that one.
16:55.57
Tony Sisk
Yeah. it's It's got really nifty. Art to it and stuff. I haven't actually played it yet. But. It looks fun. This next one actually won, like, Game of the Year last year in Germany. It's called Bomb Busters.
17:14.56
Tony Sisk
And what you do is you are you and three other people are playing as a bomb squad. And it's a camp it's like a campaign to it and everything.
17:27.77
Tony Sisk
And you're trying to disarm bombs by... you know, snipping wires, but if you snip the wrong wire, obviously would if you snip the red wire, uh, the bomb goes off and there's like a, there's like like a gauge that you're allowed, like so many mistakes before the bomb will activate.
17:49.14
Tony Sisk
But, um,
17:51.77
Tony Sisk
Yeah, it's it's it's ah it's ah it's ah it's a deduction game. It's not a social deduction deduction game, but it's a deduction game where you're trying to decipher where the wires are.
18:02.86
Tony Sisk
And you get, you know, the further along the campaign you get, you get more additional powers and stuff, but the bombs obviously become more difficult. And you can only do, like, the communication, there's you know, rules of communication and stuff like that. But I got that one, and then there's a...
18:21.81
Tony Sisk
one last one. I got this one signed by the designer. This is called... but This is a big box. and This is not one I'm taking on a cruise anywhere. But this one is called Positano.
18:35.94
Tony Sisk
And basically, the object is...
18:41.32
Tony Sisk
to build townhomes on a cliffside in your color. And you get points for if your terraces can see the ocean, right?
18:54.67
Tony Sisk
But the other players can build townhomes in front of you or you can build in front of them so you can block their view so the object is to build townhomes to have the best view and then score points for having those the best views so it's a really really a good looking game so like it's it looks great but it's too big to carry around with me on a cruise but
19:25.89
Jaime G
and he You guys, if you're hearing this, you can't see it, but he Tony was trying to get this box into the frame of the video feed. It just couldn't fit.
19:38.19
Jaime G
ah I saw was buildings. I couldn't see the box name.
19:42.54
Tony Sisk
Right.
19:42.69
Jaime G
It does seem massive.
19:44.74
Tony Sisk
and It is a very large box.
19:48.79
Tony Sisk
But yeah, we had a great time. ah and mean, Danny, that was his first trip to to Gen Con. So it was an experience for him.
19:59.89
Tony Sisk
Thousands of people there. just a massive event. You know, you have the convention center, you it's sit in downtown Indianapolis.
20:11.16
Tony Sisk
You have all the hotels that link up to the convention center and all the hotels had events going on. And then you have
20:20.99
Tony Sisk
Lucas oil stadium, which is where the Indianapolis Colts play is also part of the event. So that entire area on the field where there, you know, where you It would normally be AstroTurf and where the players play. That's all events going on down there.
20:37.40
Tony Sisk
So massive, a massive undertaking by the people that put Gen Con. So it was ah it was a lot of fun. I mean, but we were worn out every day.
20:52.29
Tony Sisk
We'd get to the hotel and we'd take our games down to like the banquet ah hall in the in the hotel and we would play until 10 o'clock all the games that we'd gotten. or Not all of them. you know it be We might get five get you know three or four games. We'd have enough time to play for like two. but yeah There would be all kinds of people coming back from the event and that everybody was playing their games in the banquet hall and stuff.
21:16.88
Tony Sisk
so it was ah It was a great time.
21:20.13
Jaime G
Did you like in the evenings try to find people who like purchased or was trying to play the same exact game or or would you just be like, hey, you know, who's who's playing what I got next?
21:36.68
Tony Sisk
man You could have done that, I guess, but since we all kind of had like our own new games, like we're all trying to learn our own new games.
21:43.55
Jaime G
Uh huh.
21:46.38
Tony Sisk
ah There were people that ah did have games that we that that we saw at the... in the exhibit hall and like, Oh, you know, I saw that game. And then I walk over there and kind of glance at what they were doing.
21:59.97
Tony Sisk
Um, didn't really engage with them too much, ah because everybody's kind of like in their own groups and stuff like that at the hotel. uh, mean, you can do that at the event where they have like open play areas and stuff like that too.
22:14.02
Tony Sisk
but now mainly it was just me and Danny playing the games that we got, you know, and just trying to learn those games and stuff. And it did, you know, it was just a great, to great experience for just, you know, just hanging out with a buddy and just going and doing that stuff.
22:32.54
Tony Sisk
And just, you know, we went out and ate at like this really cool Mongolian place called Yummy Bo. And it's like, i don't know if you've eaten Genghis grill over in the avenues here,
22:45.39
Jaime G
Oh, yeah, there was one in Murfreesboro, wasn't there?
22:48.70
Tony Sisk
Yeah. Same concept, except this is much better, way better. just Just a massive amount of food that you got and but in a Mongolian grill type of ah style.
23:01.68
Tony Sisk
But it was really good. And we didn't like you know, we didn't go out and eat too much, like as so as restaurants and stuff that We did that like on the Saturday night before we left. But, uh, most of the time we were like, we just got some ham sandwiches that we got from Walmart, you know, with the bread and the ham. So we didn't spend much money there, but, uh,
23:24.51
Tony Sisk
we you know We're trying to conserve our money for important things, like more board games.
23:29.64
Jaime G
yeah
23:31.68
Tony Sisk
yeah
23:31.97
Jaime G
Ha ha ha.
23:33.09
Tony Sisk
Right? So, yeah. I mean, and Danny, you know, he's he brought these games back, and he... we had a It was kind of funny because like every game that he would see he would like had some sort of fish or so ocean theme to it.
23:49.31
Tony Sisk
And after like the second day, were like, oh, look, you got another game that has fish. or like Ocean's always games were starting to fall into this one category. But it was it was great to see you know coming back home and stuff and him and his son. His son is about the same age as Felix. And just them having the opportunity to play games together and stuff. Cause he was one that's like, I really want to look at, you know, getting, you know, my son off the tablet, off the Xbox controller and more into something, you know, more engaging with there. He can engage with the other people and stuff like that. So, he was looking for stuff that he could play with his son. And a lot of his stuff that he picked up was like, you know, games that him and his son could play. And,
24:40.19
Tony Sisk
we put we found this fishing game, well, he found this fishing game called Lure, and that's a fun little game. it's a It comes in the smallest little box, but we you were having a great time at our small group with it.
24:56.66
Tony Sisk
You know, I think there was like five of us playing this game and just trying to catch fish rolling dice and stuff like that, but yeah, it was great to see that
25:02.13
Jaime G
Yeah.
25:09.67
Tony Sisk
that that gaming, board gaming, was creating an opportunity for him and his son to you know to do that sort of thing together. So that's what's great about board gaming. So that's why I love it.
25:26.03
Jaime G
and's ah Honestly, that's that's pretty cool, man. i am
25:31.12
Jaime G
I've played board gaming. It's something I don't dislike, but it's one of those where I know that you know my family is just not anti, but they don't really enjoy it as much.
25:44.80
Jaime G
So I don't really like push push a lot for it. And you know for for my son, he doesn't have the attention span to be like, let me figure this game out, right?
25:56.90
Tony Sisk
Right. Yeah, I mean, just kind of yourself it's kind of like some people like it, some people don't. you might be exposed to the like, you know, games that just aren't very fun as far as, you know, for the age or for whatever.
26:12.36
Jaime G
Yeah. Yeah, right.
26:14.83
Tony Sisk
It's just a lot of factors that you have to kind of factor in. Like when you're playing, a putting together a group of people to play a game, like you want personalities to kind of gel, right?
26:28.20
Tony Sisk
That will work together and not have like people like who are,
26:29.92
Jaime G
yeah right
26:33.51
Tony Sisk
Or drama queens or something like that, you know that or or that are going to kind of ruin the experience. So it's like you But they might work well with another group, you know that that fits well with that sort of thing so it's like There's a lot of thought that goes into like putting a group together that's that's going to play games. like We have an event planned for this Saturday.
26:59.37
Tony Sisk
This upcoming Saturday where we're going to play some games on Saturday evening. If you want to come, you're welcome to join. I think you would probably fit in with this group.
27:10.04
Tony Sisk
They're mostly guys from my small group. so They're all live pointers.
27:14.82
Jaime G
also So I might know one or two maybe.
27:15.15
Tony Sisk
So...
27:16.98
Jaime G
Maybe.
27:17.65
Tony Sisk
Maybe, because but you go to the different campus, so and these are...
27:22.59
Jaime G
You should come to our campus, man.
27:24.48
Tony Sisk
I go sometimes, but not to any of the yeah regular Sundays. It's usually some sort of special band or something. But, yeah.
27:38.13
Tony Sisk
So, I'm just you know looking forward to you know kind of... playing some more board games and stuff with these guys. a lot of these guys are new to the church and they were from a rooted group and now it's turned into a life group. And so a lot of them are, are gamers too. So they listen to the podcast.
28:01.62
Tony Sisk
So yep.
28:02.28
Jaime G
Shout out.
28:03.71
Tony Sisk
Shout out. They know who you are. yeah. So what, uh, so yeah so what ah What, uh, what'd you have going on?
28:16.41
Tony Sisk
Uh, you had like a birthday event or something last week, right?
28:20.49
Jaime G
Oh, yeah. ah Yeah, yeah, yeah. So about two weekends ago, um we had some friends who the actually we met them at church. We met them at LifePoint. They used to be our small group leaders.
28:31.99
Jaime G
um Through a series of events, they now live in Dixon, so they don't come to life point anymore. But their son and Felix are like two weeks apart from each other, their birthdays.
28:44.62
Jaime G
Two weeks and two days. So they invited us over to a birthday party at Rocket Town, downtown Nashville. And I'm thinking, oh, we're going to be all hanging out in the skate park, right?
28:57.66
Jaime G
Well, this is so cool. Rocket Town has gotten into, they're kind of like dabbling into eSports. and But they've got now a space where they've got a room with about 13 gaming PCs, two Xbox Series Xs, another room where I counted like eight PlayStation five s And then two 70-inch monitors or TVs with Switch 2s on them.
29:36.65
Jaime G
So the that birthday party was not what I expected. it was It was basically like, kids, here's a bunch of video games. Go and play. And Tony, my wife, had to hold me down from like you know beating the kids to some of these consoles.
29:55.87
Jaime G
and And so you I'm watching all these kids navigat like gravitate, like poof right away into like the the gaming PCs. and And they're all playing Fortnite against each other or Fall Guys.
30:09.49
Jaime G
And I'm like, yo, there's a PlayStation 5 over here. And everyone everyone's like, yeah, we don't want to play that. I'm like, what?
30:16.43
Tony Sisk
hu
30:18.14
Jaime G
So eventually, I start playing Nintendo Switch 2 and I was playing Mario Kart. And, you know, I'm playing by myself. And then one person shows up, two persons show up, three people people show up, bunch of nine-year-olds.
30:36.63
Jaime G
Well, I'm invincible, Tony.
30:41.15
Tony Sisk
You put the beat down on those nine-year-olds.
30:41.37
Jaime G
Nobody can beat me. Oh, man, they didn't see the red shell coming at them. um But I told you this story that at one point,
30:55.04
Jaime G
this this little girl is looking at me. She's like, how'd you get so good at this?
31:03.22
Jaime G
And I'm just like, oh, you know, I play. and my my son's like, my dad's a pro.
31:12.70
Jaime G
but But no, seriously, the the Avenue, the skate park Avenue has done a really good job at creating this space where kids can come in and play. I don't know if you knew this, but Rocket Town, even though it's a skate park, it's like it's it's a Christian organization.
31:33.43
Jaime G
So they believe a lot in community. There's a church that that basically congregates there on Sunday mornings. They they do like recording podcasts all around um different type of of, you know, speakers like you and I, but they're all like, you know, in some way or another.
31:54.83
Jaime G
doing Christian-related messages, topics, et cetera. So this was pretty cool, right? Because you don't necessarily associate a skate park with a Christian organization.
32:08.42
Jaime G
So I mean, i was just tearing it up with these kids. And at one point, one adult, my wife, asked me to go and play by myself in a different console because I it It wasn't fun for the kids.
32:28.19
Jaime G
She's like, hey, there's another Switch 2 over there. You play with you play over there. Nobody's playing there.
32:36.72
Jaime G
And so I was like, sure, but i you know, you got to teach these kids some life lessons.
32:40.16
Tony Sisk
It's no fun. I'm having fun beating up on these kids.
32:47.23
Jaime G
So look, they're going to lose against somebody. Rather do it in person, against somebody they know. there's There's a lot of growth in losing.
32:53.88
Tony Sisk
Right.
32:57.64
Tony Sisk
There is. That's true.
32:59.02
Jaime G
Yeah.
32:59.92
Tony Sisk
It is good.
33:00.00
Jaime G
Yeah.
33:00.40
Tony Sisk
People got to lose. Right. people i gotta lose that's yeah
33:03.10
Jaime G
i I was giving them life lessons, man.
33:06.53
Tony Sisk
right
33:07.99
Jaime G
Yeah. But it was it was a fun time. I mean, i wish I was sending you advanced pictures like, hey, look at this. I mean, Tony, I came in the room before they turned anything on.
33:21.74
Jaime G
And i was just like, guys, you got to turn all the TVs on. i'm like I'm like so excited. i'm like jumping around like, what games are are here? What games are here? And again, my wife was like, you can't play until all the kids are playing.
33:40.33
Jaime G
You have to wait until there's something that they're not using.
33:47.36
Tony Sisk
Who's that big kid? It's Jaime.
33:49.44
Jaime G
Yeah, right. So no, man, this is this is great.
33:54.44
Tony Sisk
That's funny.
33:55.74
Jaime G
So if you if you guys are ever in the in the downtown Nashville area, go to Rocket Town. I mean, I'm not telling you to go in skateboard or rollerblade or whatever.
34:07.01
Jaime G
You can if you want to. But there is a legit great gaming space. um I went there because of the birthday party. Would have never known that this was there, but it was so cool to see.
34:20.29
Tony Sisk
Right. That sounds cool.
34:21.50
Jaime G
yeah
34:21.79
Tony Sisk
i didn I've never even heard of it. So I might, if I'm ever down there, it's a rare thing to get down there, but if I'm ever down there, would definitely check it out. Like the last time we were down in downtown Nashville was for our anniversary last year, which is you know coming up again.
34:40.14
Tony Sisk
But, uh, Amy and I went to an Indian restaurant and then for lunch. And then we went to ah place across the street that was like an arcade. It was a combination arcade.
34:54.91
Tony Sisk
ah And it was like, I can't remember what it's called. It's like miniature bowling almost. Except with like.
35:01.82
Jaime G
I think i know, I think I know I've heard about this place.
35:06.31
Tony Sisk
Yeah.
35:08.64
Tony Sisk
Yeah, it's like miniature bowling, but it was fun.
35:09.07
Jaime G
I can't remember the name. yeah
35:12.09
Tony Sisk
I mean, and they had a bunch of old arcade games there and stuff like that, and we played those, and then we went to, like, this French, you know, pastry shop that was up the street, but it was fun. Yeah, there's there's some cool stuff down there.
35:28.69
Tony Sisk
And I think like next door was like a laser tag place or something. I don't know. like ah
35:35.94
Tony Sisk
There's so much stuff down there I can't even keep up with. And I don't want to pay it for the parking. They go down there. National
35:41.98
Jaime G
Dude, I know
35:45.79
Jaime G
Parking was just crazy.
35:46.27
Tony Sisk
parking is outrageous.
35:48.06
Jaime G
Yeah. Places that used to be public parking, if you could ever find a spot, are now paid. there there They're cracking down on that.
36:00.25
Tony Sisk
Yeah well bad thing is like There's no Like way to get down there Unless You take a car Or you know i guess you could ride a bus but who wants to ride a bus Um Like No right like
36:15.44
Jaime G
Not from where we live.
36:20.56
Tony Sisk
Like, I don't, you know, it's just a, it's a hassle to get down there. Like, they really, and don't know.
36:25.21
Jaime G
Yeah.
36:26.71
Tony Sisk
I don't know what the solution is for it, but it would be, economically, like, it'd be better. Like, people are wasting money on, you know, parking. Spending $40, $50 for parking.
36:40.89
Tony Sisk
That's literally the cost of a meal for, you know, well, down there probably for two people, but maybe. Yeah.
36:47.01
Jaime G
Yeah.
36:50.32
Tony Sisk
So, yeah.
36:51.03
Jaime G
Yeah.
36:52.54
Tony Sisk
Anyway, it's so what else we got? We got
36:57.86
Jaime G
All right.
36:57.79
Tony Sisk
Battle...
36:58.38
Jaime G
All right. I've got an update for you, though.
37:00.66
Tony Sisk
Okay.
37:01.86
Jaime G
OK. You, a couple of episodes here, recommended that I play Dave the Diver.
37:07.09
Tony Sisk
Uh-huh.
37:07.52
Jaime G
This is probably ranging maybe four or five weeks back. Finally, yesterday, I completed the campaign. And this game is a must play for anybody.
37:22.17
Jaime G
If you have PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass, download it. It's probably for free. It's so much fun. There's a couple of things I was telling you before we started recording. I was not going to give you some spoilers.
37:37.83
Jaime G
So I don't know how far you got into the in in the game, Tony, but at one point in time, I'm like swimming in like this glacial area and there's this big ice thing. And, you know, so I go and I find a pickaxe and I'm like chopping away at this.
38:00.16
Jaime G
And there's, there's a weapon inside of there. As soon as as Dave picks it up, dude, it's Thor's hammer.
38:10.84
Tony Sisk
or his hammer in the ice.
38:12.21
Jaime G
literally he even does like an animation when he picks it up and he's like lifting it and you can like charge it up and it you throw it and it goes with electricity and then it comes back at you
38:26.58
Jaime G
and then the game man it's got like so many little references to like other stuff um I mean, i so I posted this up and on this court about a week ago, but there's a cameo by one of the main characters in the King of fighters series.
38:46.29
Jaime G
He's like a chef that you play against, but it's totally a rip off of this, of, of, you know, Kyo Kusanagi. He even does like one of his, you know, special moves as a taunt to, uh, Dave before they, they have a cook off.
39:02.54
Jaime G
Um, Bancho from Bancho Sushi. He's got like some animations where you know who South Bay is?
39:13.65
Jaime G
Dude, do you don't know who South Bay is?
39:16.70
Tony Sisk
Now,
39:17.93
Jaime G
He's like a really popular, well, he became really popular like in 2022. Maybe he's fizzled out now. You know how internet celebrities go. But he's like ah a restaurant owner in Dubai that his his thing was is that he would come out to your table and do this thing with salt where he would like
39:26.96
Tony Sisk
Right.
39:42.78
Jaime G
like, let me see if I can get this in camera, where he would, like, drizzle salt like this, and it would, like, roll down his elbow, right?
39:53.52
Tony Sisk
Yeah.
39:53.80
Jaime G
And then then land on your food.
39:57.71
Tony Sisk
Okay. I don't know if I like that or not, but...
40:00.85
Jaime G
People, pick dude, his steaks were, like, a grand, a pop. Um... So and there's things that you like pay attention when Bancho is cooking up new recipes.
40:13.82
Jaime G
He does the same thing. And he's like, I'm like, I'm like, what? Um, There's a character in game that shows up and actually sings a couple songs, but the songs are like so well produced that I was like, yo, know this is this can't be just like a random song.
40:33.52
Jaime G
So it's an alleged artist. it's called The artist is called MXM Tunes. She's been on Jimmy Kimmel. She's won a bunch of awards. They inserted songs that she was about to release when the game came out, when she wasn't as big.
40:50.86
Jaime G
And now she's like, she's, she's not going to say like Taylor Swift kind of big, but in some circles she's like really recognized.
40:51.29
Tony Sisk
OK.
41:01.77
Jaime G
And I'm like, this game did like a bunch of things before they were a thing. Like at some point you're playing Bellatro games. Did I tell you about that?
41:11.89
Tony Sisk
Yeah.
41:13.35
Jaime G
That my son was playing upstairs and I'm like, I keep hearing this music. I'm like, why is Felix playing Bellatro? And i was I'm like, Felix, what you doing? He's like, I'm playing Dave the Diver. I'm like, that ain't Dave the Diver. So I walk up.
41:27.87
Jaime G
So at one what part of the game, you actually have to beat people in Bellatro games. And you know a little bit of a spoiler here.
41:39.27
Jaime G
um At one point in time, Dave is actually in space. So it's no longer Dave the Divers, Dave the Spaceman.
41:48.85
Tony Sisk
Okay.
41:49.39
Jaime G
Yeah, yeah. so i So I have this.
41:51.08
Tony Sisk
think some sort of space squid or something looking for.
41:55.52
Jaime G
You have to play it to find out. um Tony, I have an idea.
42:00.79
Tony Sisk
that?
42:01.23
Jaime G
What if we go to the next, what's what's the event of this board game thing that you played, that you went to?
42:10.04
Tony Sisk
The Gen Con?
42:10.64
Jaime G
GamesCon? GenCon.
42:12.89
Tony Sisk
Gen Con.
42:13.21
Jaime G
was it Was there cosplaying?
42:15.87
Tony Sisk
Yes, there was. I saw a Helldiver.
42:17.60
Jaime G
Let's go. Let's do it, man. Look, you could be Dave the Diver.
42:26.12
Jaime G
Dude, fans could be... You know you know this is coming, Bancho.
42:31.37
Tony Sisk
Uh-huh.
42:32.94
Jaime G
I'll dress up as Cobra.
42:37.27
Tony Sisk
Okay. Well, we're going next year. Oh,
42:42.30
Jaime G
If you threw in some cosplay... And you agree? We can do it. But you have to wear like the full scuba suit all day.
42:51.48
Tony Sisk
oh God, no. ah That would be torture. I'd pass out. ah Just getting to the convention center.
42:58.59
Jaime G
you'd be You'd be so cool. No, actually, Dave actually wears some clothes in in between scuba missions.
43:09.08
Tony Sisk
Yeah.
43:10.20
Jaime G
Yeah. So think about it. Just throwing that out there.
43:15.74
Jaime G
Right.
43:16.08
Tony Sisk
Well, there is the event.
43:16.46
Jaime G
But ah yes, F2Con and also multi MultiCity MusicCon is coming again.
43:17.29
Tony Sisk
What's ah what's the ah the con coming to Lebanon in November? Is it November?
43:26.07
Tony Sisk
F2Con.
43:31.69
Tony Sisk
MusicCon?
43:33.96
Jaime G
MultiCon, sorry.
43:33.98
Tony Sisk
Never heard that one.
43:35.35
Jaime G
MusicCityMulticon.
43:36.87
Tony Sisk
Okay.
43:39.52
Jaime G
Minus eSports, you've been to that one.
43:41.93
Tony Sisk
Right.
43:43.29
Jaime G
Yeah.
43:43.41
Tony Sisk
Okay. My app.
43:44.78
Jaime G
Remember that we went like the night of Halloween and everyone's like dressed up or something?
43:51.06
Tony Sisk
Yeah. Okay. We'll have to go. have to check it out again. The one that's in the expo in Lebanon.
43:57.49
Jaime G
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
44:03.52
Tony Sisk
we We can do a panel. We can do a podcast panel.
44:07.49
Jaime G
I think you have to get permission to do that, no?
44:10.24
Tony Sisk
Just show up and throw down a table and some mics.
44:12.74
Jaime G
Yeah. Excuse us, we're recording.
44:16.81
Tony Sisk
ah Right.
44:17.76
Jaime G
Yeah. So.
44:19.85
Tony Sisk
ah All right. Well, I think that's all I got. I'm only saying that because we have other stuff, but I want to actually do, let's like, instead of having like six different topics, let's, let's break and have like a ah second episode.
44:23.44
Jaime G
No.
44:36.66
Jaime G
right.
44:37.93
