Show Notes

Welcome to the first episode of my new podcast show and I couldn’t be happier with my guest today, as he is a perfect example of what my show is all about!  He has bounced forward after facing the most horrendous adversity and is making such a difference to others across the world.

In this inaugural episode I speak to Mike Haines whose brother David was murdered by Isis in 2014, and rather than letting hatred take hold of his heart, he now does incredible work with his campaign promoting unity, tolerance and understanding.  I know his story will inspire you.

David was a humanitarian worker, and it was whilst he was working with an NGO in Syria that he was captured and held for 18 months before being horrifically murdered and his death put on the internet.

Mike’s incredible testimony cannot fail to show how he retained his humanity and compassion and is dedicated to sharing that message with the world to create unity

He says that if each and every one of us can open minds, hearts and arms to other communities we do not understand, then we can only grow closer and our resistance to intolerance and hate grows stronger

Some key points from our interview:

·      How he decided very early on after his brother’s murder that he wouldn’t let allow hate to fill his heart

·      How the values that he learnt as a child guided him in the work he now does for humanity

·      How he went on TV very quickly after David’s murder asking for no reprisals in his name

·      How through his work he’s been on a journey of enlightenment when he’s realised he’s not the only voice for understanding, unity and hope

·      How he believes that there are more good in this world than there is bad
