Unbroken: Healing Through Storytelling
35: Move Past Your Past with Emily Jacob
Show Notes

This episode with Emily really resonated with me.  For those of you who know my own story will also know that I'm a survivor of rape too.  So many of the words that came out of Emily's mouth during the interview, could have been mine!

She is doing amazing work in helping women put their life back together after experiencing rape

Emily Jacob is the founder of ReConnected Life. She is a survivor, coach & NLP master practitioner who is using her skills and experience to help women overcome the trauma of rape and move past their past.

Emily primarily works one-to-one with women who have been carrying their pain inside often for decades, sometimes since childhood. She is passionate about helping women live their full lives and go from surviving, to thriving.

Emily is also the editor of 'To Report of Not to Report: Survivor Testimony of the (In)Justice System', written by members of her community, and appeared in the BAFTA-nominated documentary, Raped: My Story on Channel 5

Key points from this episode are:

  •  How she blamed herself for a while but realises after a lot of work and many years, she holds no blame in what happened to her
  •  How she now helps others to rebuild their lives
  •  How she understands that the self blame can often be more difficult to overcome than the trauma itself
  • How she started her business "Reconnected Life" to be able to give the tools to others to heal
  • How she is now able to speak out about rape and feels it's her duty to speak out for all those who can't yet
