The Sarah Show

How You Can End Homelessness feat. Lorraine Lam of Sanctuary Toronto

Sarah Chew Season 2 Episode 1

Welcome to season two of The Sarah Show! To kick off the new season, Sarah talks with Lorraine Lam about how listeners can partner and walk with people experiencing poverty, homelessness and marginalization.

Lorraine Lam is as an outreach worker at Sanctuary Toronto, a Christian organization that works with poor and homeless people and provides community meals, health care, resources, worship services, etc.  In this first episode of season two, Sarah and Lorraine discuss the importance of listening to people before trying to "help" them — and why your "help" might not be so helpful after all.

Lorraine also speaks about how her faith influences the advocacy work she does on social media, and how she handles grief and anger while witnessing injustices day to day.

It's an epic episode that will be sure to make you think twice about performative service, and consider pursuing humble partnership with marginalized members of your community.
