Michigan Murders & Music
Join us on "Michigan Murders and Music" for a true crime road trip with a twist.
Picture this: you're cruising across Michigan with two of your wildest, most entertaining friends. At every stop, they've got a local true crime story to tell you.
Our mission is to explore these dark tales while staying laser-focused on the perpetrator, honoring the victims and their families by not sensationalizing their pain. On our special UNSOLVED episodes, we will occasionally focus more on the victim to help generate new leads and find answers.
And because no road trip is complete without a great playlist, every episode ends with a hand-picked song by a legendary Michigan band.
We guarantee a dark story and leave you with a happy ending—all in one trip.

“Neenef Odah Murder-Suicide at Kalamazoo College featuring Drink Their Blood”
Michigan Murders & Music
This episode examines the heartbreaking murder‑suicide involving Neenef Odah at Kalamazoo College, a case that stunned the campus and left a deep emotional impact on the community. The hosts walk listeners through the events with their signature blend of clarity, empathy, and grounded storytelling — focusing on the actions of the perpetrator while honoring the victim and avoiding sensationalism. The narrative explores the timeline of the incident, the immediate response from students and faculty, and the broader conversations it sparked around campus safety, mental health, and the lingering effects of trauma.
After the true‑crime segment, the show shifts into its musical feature, highlighting the Michigan metal band Drink Their Blood. Their intense, atmospheric sound provides a cathartic contrast to the somber story, offering listeners a powerful emotional release as the episode closes. As always, links to the band’s music and ways to support the show are included.

Neenef Odah
Born in May of 1979 in Iraq
•Neenef was the second child of Wilson and Susan Aprim Stroma Odah
His father was a doctor and I am pretty sure his wife didn't do anything job wise.
• The family was considered well off.
• Having money does not help when you are living under the rule of Saddam Husane.
• they moved to the states
• Being of the Assyrian faith in Iraq did not bode well Under Sudan.
◦ Assyrian faith is a Christian group considered in the Middle East and are to be descendents of the early Christians, aka Cal cleans.
• By the time Neenef and his family moved to America he knew how to read, write and speak Arabic, which was not common in most syrian households.
• Naneef moved to Seattle, WA with his family when he was 12.
• its important to remember during the telling of this story the social family constructs of men and woman where neenef grew up.
• That would be in 1989-90?
He would end up graduating with Uber good grades from a Jesuits school called Seattle Prreeppartory School in the year of 1997
• The Odah family had family of their own in Michigan in fact, Neenef's was cousin was going to WMU and there is a large Chaldean community in South eastern Michigan
• This is why the family chose to move to Michigan
• Mr Odah wanted his son to be a Dr. what better school to go to then K - college?
• Kalamazoo College sounds like a junior college. Trust when I say it is not. She is small but mighty with a huge reputation.
• It was decided that Naanef would start his pre -med and medical school there.
• On campus Naneef was known as a fun man.
Words as a quiet young like quiet, sad, tense,
in families unlike ours- He was ostracized and no longer an honor to his family.
So they were estranged.
• that alone puts a lot of pressure on the next son to succeed at these opportunities given to him.
• After all, he could be back in Iraq.
• I dont think that we can truly understand the family dynamic here. It is simply a completely different way to be than the majority of us can imagine. I know I can't even.
• So, Naanef is going to private K Zoo College: home of The Hornets
• The majority of his co-students liked him. He seemed to have a good personality.
• Quiet, but well liked. He seemed to get along well with others.
• In fact, only one person really just did not get a good vibe from him. He even said that people like him were why he moved from his home town to k 200, MI. To get away from douche canoes.
• He did talk to friends about the dash in culture regarding woman. He was very aware of the differences, public ally.
• I wonder how was cultural and how much was his ego.
• Naneef had a lot of pressure on him. Not only with the class load and curriculum he had to abide to but also his family dynamics with the pressure -- the to suceed.
• Naneef meets a girl: Margaret Wardle and the couple start dating around Christin 1st semester at K College.
• Margaret or Maggie as her friends called her is going into her sophomore year at K College, Law school none -the-less.
• According to an article written by Arthur Santana • The Young college couple broke of 1999.
was said they were taking a break encouraged by Maggie herself.
• By Neneefs Junior year he had changed his major to Computer science WITH stipulations from his father. GPA and NO WOMAN.
• While they did fight a lot, it that was partly because appears Neenef was a controlling boyfriend.
• That's a red flag to me, other's said there was no Physical violence between them.
• Upon coming back from Summer break Neenef would be heading into his Junior year and Margaret only her sophomore.
Source Arthur Santana The Seattle Times by and Miyoko Wolf.
They learned from a friend of his that Neenef that was having a rough summer and not at all enjoying his break from Maggie.
• He was all heartbroken and maybe not in because too good with his family he's not going to be a doctor.
• The two ended up seeing each other again in the new fall semester 1999.
• I'm feeling like maybe she was pressured just a bit to just try again.
• He often bragged of fights when with the guys. Fights that supposedly he had been Involved in
• Big lil man's syndrome.
• He had been known to punch "things" during or after arguments,
• Their fall re-connection did not last long, sometime in September tmhaergyarelbroke up again. Fighting.
• Neenef took up stalking her physically and with constant calls and texts.
• Then he became nasty. Really nasty...- he would yell things to her like "SLUT" and WHORE in front of others to her across campus
• With his friends: he played up that SHE cheated on him, etc.
• K Z00's homecoming of 1999 Was coming to an end and we head into the school week.
• During the homecoming dance, all though broken up, Neenef was pissed that Maggie danced with another boy.
•• On the night of october 18, 1999 a Monday, Maggie and two of her friends were hitting the books to study.
•Neenef had texted and called her a few times that evening saying that he had something he needed her to read.
• After 11 p.m. she finally caved, against the warnings from her friends and put her sweater
on to go help Neenef.
• I read on cause of death woman.com that Maggie said to her friends, "He just wants me to read something. I’ll only be gone 20 minutes.
• Her friend replied with, "well, if not back then,I will call you."
• Also, the website has very detailed information if you want to dig deeper.
-Fighting was heard coming from Neenef's dorm room. Numerous dorm-bound students had the misfortune to be familiar with the sounds.
•On that evening, Neenefs suite mate (they slept different rooms w/a dorm mate but all four would share a bathroom…. Came through the bathroom and knocked because he heard the fighting or was just checking out what Neenef was up to.
• the young man, knocked on his door and Neenef actually answered it.
• The young man saw Maggie on the bed there crying. Neenef says something along the lines of "Hey man. We're just talking... I'll catch ya later, brah." friend see's Maggie
• Despite having seeing Maggie crying, the young man leaves we all know it's common for them to be fighting and us girls cry. Its what we do.
• That young man was the last to see the two young adults alive.
• Nearby dorm students reported of hearing beyond-the-normal fight sounds from Neenef's room,
• Speculation among students were things like
1. Sounded like a closet falling
2. Loud scream that sounded like a dog.
3. Someone kicking a football
4. something being hammered into the wall.
5. One boy even said it sounded like he was hitting things with his bat
The brain works funny when you experience sounds that are out of the norm.
None -the-less; dorm mates were taking notice of the loud banging sounds emanating from Neenefs room.
•enough that neighboring students were gathering in the hallway.
It did eventually become too QUIET.
• The sudden LACK of sound is what spurred the following actions.
• The suit- mate, Nevin, knocks on the door. No answer, not good.
• Nevin, the suit mate that che
cHed on them earlier then decided, I'm sure with the help of others, to enter bathroom through their adjoining doors
• Nevin is stopped by something that I hope he can get out of his mind. Blood.
• Not only blood, human blood and well, pieces.
• Campus security was 1st to arrive. He looked inside, pulled the door closed and kept it closed. Images seen can't on see.
• Police are called and we learn that Neenef had murdered Maggie right there in the dorms and then turned the gun on himself.
•• Just after midnight, on the 2nd floor, room 201 a murder- suicide investigation was underway.
• A suicide note was left. He talked of his pain. His failure That his whole 20 years was a life of pain.
• They learn from his roommate that he wanted to commit suicide that summer and was going to buy a gun.
• He didn't get the gun that he was a pistol and eyeing because it's the background check took too long plus, he didn't want one, I'm sure, a background check,
that is We learn that on Oct 9, 1999 Neenef just borrowed his room Mates car... drove his sad ass up to the local store on main Street Kalamazoo called ON TARGET, NO ON TARGET, its before you not Target ....a handy gun shop just get to the local Meijer.
• For a mere $ 347.62 Neneff walked away with a MOSSBERG shotgun Hand shells 22
• looked up that fucking gun. Holy hell. Dude total the cashier that he was going hunting.
• 0K small Dick. Sorry I blatantly am against guns, i hate them.
◦ Also Yellawolf sings about just ONE Mossberg. I had no idea they had so many different styles out styles here ☆ -
•
• He doesn't come home from good old gun Mart that day though, you have to wait a full day....
just to let the hatred steam roll inside of yourself.
• Next day- Neenef picks his new little toy up and smuggles it into the dorm housing, the De waters building... without anyone knowing.
• As we know now, he intended to kill himself, we don’t know if he premeditated killing Maggie
also. But he fucking did.
• Maggie was a human who seemed to love everyone and would brighten a room wherever she went. She was smart, beautiful to love
• Neenef took her from this world and did not the balls to face her family, his own family or the world
• In remembrance of Maggie and so many domestic violence victims, her parents started spreading awareness and telling her story.
• Remembering Maggie is an that was put amazing website honor.
Up in her • When you open it it BIG statistics come up - /into highschool students has been purposefully hit, physically slapped or hurt by a boyfriend or girlfriend 53% of teens who abusive Only were in rowed in an relationship ever told anyone about the abuse.
- 43% of dating college women report experiencing violent and abusive dating behaviors.
• Those numbers are insane!
• Those are and all of us know are so many that go unreported.
reported numbers that there • We Need to speak up seeing the person.
STOP
• Speaker & writer Dr. Gail Griffen stated that we need to look at ACTIONS and not TYPES of PEOPLE that we can recognize wavering signs.
FORGET JUST Looking at violence alone.
- Look at their cultures, or family background - Are they controlling - Is there verbal pot-downs or verbal abuse, even slight - Do they tell little lies to go out with friends.
