Michigan Murders & Music
Our podcast is about murders and mayhem in Michigan. We will go through the cities, lakes, swamps, the 'back 40', and all over the Great Lakes State discussing a plethora of murders. We will include interesting stories that may not lead to murder but are just plain weird. Homicides, domestic abuse awareness cases, stabbings, missing people and cold cases. Our stories will describe as little of the victims side as possible. We believe the families have already been through enough. But we will definitely be mocking the murderer, the bad guy....the one who may or may not deserve it. Consider us your comedic crime duo. It's as though we are sitting in a living room, talking true crime with you.
We have an amazing music scene. Michigan has brought us many greats like Iggy Pop, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Eminem, Alice Cooper and SO many more. Music brought Your Highness and Boot together, Roger that! Boot is a musician and plays bass. We love our local music scene and want to support all of them. So we will end each story with a little local music, leaving you with a happy ending, and on a good note!

The Jones Bros Newaygo/Shannon Siders featuring Misery Lane
This week we are finally covering the story of Shannon Siders, requested by numerous listeners. I hope we do Shannon justice, although we do try to leave the victim and the family out of the story as much as possible. Two brothers are in jail for this murder with a PI currently investigating their innocence under an innocence project.

1. Paul & Matt Jones, brothers just 2 years apart in age, grew up just south of Newaygo in a town called Grant, I believe.
2. On the night of July 17, 1989 Shannon talked to her boyfriend, Brian Ish, who had recently moved to Ohio. She talked to him around 9:55 pm and shared her evening plans with him.
3. She planned to go hang out with some friends at a local party spot.
4. Her father, Robert known mostly as Bob left to go to work at the bottling plant around 10:15-:10:30 that night.
5. Being a single father who had raised Shannon alone since she was 4, the night shift worked better for the two of them.
6. Shannon had spent the earlier part of the day at a local swimming hole with some friends Carol Glassner and Carols boyfriend Paul Jones.
7. The couple took Shannon home after swimming.
8. Later that night, Shannon called Carol to see if she could hitch a ride to the party spot.
9. Carol told her no and Shannon asked her to ask Paul if he would pick her up and Paul also refused to take her partying.
10. That evening, Shannon’s friend, Julia Litich, also a relatively close neighbor went to her house that night at 11:30-11:45 to visit her. Shannon wasn’t home.
11. This friend wasn’t aware that Shannon had planned to go out with friends.
12. She continued to knock on Shannon’s door about every half hour.
13. She was a close enough friend that she even went into Shannon’s house and looked for her in her bedroom, to no avail. Shannon just wasn’t home still.
14. She actually continued to check for Shannon until 2:45 a.m.
15. When Bob returned home from work in the morning,
16. his pride & joy…his only daughter was not home.
17. Bob Siders daughter, Shannon, would never come home again and this broke the man.
18. Bob reported Shannon missing on July 20, 1989.
19. He did everything he possibly could to find his daughter. He sent posters to police posts and plastered them everywhere.
20. He even had numerous billboards put up, I'm sure some of you remember them.
21. Bob and his friends searched for Shannon. Looking everywhere in town and even checking some of the more well known hang outs, which meant a lot of back woods searching.
22. He obviously talked to as many of her friends as possible.
23. So Newaygo the town is only 3.92 square miles. However, Newaygo County is 862 square miles. That’s a lot of searching.
24. Unfortunately, nobody found Shannon until Labor Day weekend when 2 hikers, in the Manistee National Forrest, found 2 identification cards with Shannon’s name on it.
25. When police searche the area they found a pair of jeans but not Shannon.
26. The Manistee is an insanely large area, I could easily get lost there. As we know though, all of our towns have their known little spots and all of those places were checked, even the canoe livery that I’ve used and been to a hundred times.
27. Bob went to the area where the hikers found Shannon’s id’s. He looked all around for her to no avail.
28. You can find him on numerous video’s talking about how he wasn’t searching for his daughter at that point, he was searching for her body or grave. It’s heartbreaking.
29. It took 3 months before Shannon’s remains were discovered
30. A bow hunter going into the forest to find his hunting spot instead found Shannon’s body.
31. She had been in the same exact area that her id’s were found. In fact, the officer told Bob if he had gone a bit further into the woods when he was searching, just past a tree line, he would have found his daughter.
32. Which leads to why didn’t they find her when looking for evidence?
33. The area of the forest that she was found was off M82 and Thornapple Road.
34. Detective Miller had the medical examiner come in and it was determined that she passed due to blunt force trauma to her head and it was determined to be a homicide.
35. Shannon had died, in a brutal way. Her body was rather beaten up and there were cuts made. Well, I guess mutilation to her private area.
36. The me also concluded that she had been sexually abused.
37. There was no evidence found near her body nor on her body. The only thing that was noticeable was that her class ring was missing.
38. An entomologist was brought in and he determined that Shannon’s death happened in the last couple weeks of July or the first week of august.
39. Which fits into the July 18 missing date.
40. The investigation covered the entire town.
41. They came up with the 8 people that Shannon was hanging out with that night.
42. All 8 were thoroughly questioned and some even took polygraphs.
43. They basically learn that the group met up at a local store, the EZ Mart, drove around in three cars having drinks and cruising.
44. They hung out at an area they called Hole in the Woods.
45. Shannon had been riding in one of the cars with Brandon Sievers and Levi Pierson.
46. Brandon Sievers was a known woman hater. He had a sketchy reputation and people said that he called women sluts & where’s.
47. Shannon wasn’t comfortable being in Brandon’s car during the cruise time, so the next opportunity, she got into the car with the Jones Bros.
48. Everyone agreed that Shannon left with the Jones Brothers and they stated that they were going to watch movies at her house but ended up just dropping her off.
49. Matthew took a poly and passed.
50. Of the 8 kids everything seems to be checking out. Shannon was last seen with the Jones brothers.
51. Matthew & Paul Jones describe in detail that they dropped her off. Her TV was on and they could see her dog.
52. In October of 1989 the Sider’s neighbor, Vicky, was interviewed and she stated that she was taking out that trash at the crack of black, 3:15 a.m. She knows this because it’s her morning routine to get up and cook breakfast for her husband.
53. She says that she saw a car at the Siders house and she was an ear witness.
54. She heard a girl say, “I want to go with you…” and at some point heard a man’s voice, “You lying bitch…” She said it was a dark colored car. She heard car doors slam and the car took off.
55. During the time that they were still looking for Shannon, someone called the police department.
56. Aimee B…..(name) was a 15 year old working the summer at the police department as a receptionist.
57. She answered the phone one day to hear, “I just killed Shannon Siders.”
58. She was 15, she freaked out, started crying and told the police around her.
59. All avenues to find out who made the call were fruitless and detective Pat Header said it was thoroughly investigated.
60. All in all from what I could find, hundreds of people were interviewed and at least a dozen men were seriously looked at as suspects. Don’t quote me on that that
61. Talk flew around town about certain families and how they live, some were known to be violent people in the area.
62. Numerous people were polygraphed.
63. Norman Shields took 2 polys, 12 years apart, both of which came back as inconclusive.
64. William Shields, his brother took one and also came up inconclusive.
65. Clint Guthrie’s polygraph straight up came out as NOT BEING TRUTHFUL.
66. Jesse Blanchett, inconclusive poly.
67. Would you like to know who took polygraph tests that came back TRUTHFUL?
-Douglas Lange
-Kim Jones
-Matthew Jones
-Roy Jones
-Douglas Mead
-Darrin Sackett
-Robert “Bob” Siders
68. Another person of interest was Randy Sokolowski who did talk to police and claimed he saw Shannon that night being yelled at by a man.
69. He never took a polygraph test though and was definitely known to be a violent human.
70. Brandon Sievers, the woman hater was interviewed and looked at closely.
71. Shannon’s friend, Julia Litich was questioned about her checking on Shannon all night.
72. All in all the investigators had a bunch of polygraphs and Shannon’s missing class ring, her id’s and little to no evidence or motive.
73. Bob Sider buried his only daughter with no answers and you can see it all on his face.
74. Shannon’s case became a cold case for 22 years.
75. Finally, in 2011 new administration came in and they started a cold case crew the CCC to look into Shannon’s murder.
76. Miss Vicky, the neighbor was interviewed again. This time she remembered that the car that she saw was driven by Brian Ish….who was Shannon’s boyfriend that had moved to Ohio.
77. Julia Litich, the friend who went to her house all night long, had originally been questioned but her information was not in the file. That was fishy.
78. Aimee B had been haunted, as most were, by the Shannon Siders case her whole life. She may have even heard the killers voice.
79. When the case opened back up and a reward was offered (I don’t think that’s her motive) Aimee B became a sort of detective herself.
80. She even says that she was obsessed with Shannon’s case. She wanted to know who killed Shannon and give that information to Bob so he can have what some call closure.
81. Aimee talked to hundreds of people in the area. Locals said she could be downright pushy. She would talk to people numerous times.
82. No offense to Aimee, I am just surprised that the police let her go on with her own investigation like this.
83. The Cold Case Crew, officer Pat Headland, set up a facebook page. Sort of like a Where’s Shannon Siders or Missing Shannon Siders page.
84. Instantly, he received a message from self appointed detective Aimee. She let him know everything she’d been doing and what she had uncovered.
85. Headlund just told her to hand over the info.
86. Aimee did get a few messages through facebook that seemed like viable leads and she did call Pat Headland and give him details and Pat in turn checked out all of the leads.
87. Sadly, though a few seemed really hopeful, they just couldn’t find any evidence.
88. Bob agreed to having his daughters remains exhumed in July 2012 and was interviewed by the news. He stated that he is ok with her being exhumed and that new science is going to catch his daughters killer.
89. On top of that, Bob knew that Shannon’s friends had placed letters in her casket. Being the upstanding man that he is, he never read any of them.
90. Investigators wanted to read those letters though, mainly because someone gave them a tip that there was a confession letter in there.
91. Finally, October 15, 2012 the remains of forever 18 year old Shannon Sider was laid to rest for good.
92. Nothing came from the letters and no new evidence nor dna was found on Shannon’s body.
93. I lied, there was a moment of hope when hair was found in Shannon’s hand, they had hoped it was from the suspect but it was tested and found to be her own hair.
94. Which leads to the abilities of the undertaker.
95. Still no clues, no evidence.
96. Aimee kept asking questions and badgering people.
97. People in town finally started telling Aimee that she needed to talk to Jenny Corrigan.
98. So she did. Aimee gave her information about that night that she had been withholding for years.
99. She was with Dean Robinson the night Shannon went missing and they both saw what happened.
100. Aimee calls Pat Headland and declares that they have their first witness.
101. For over 20 years, this young lady held back information that could be useful.
102. Detectives track down Dean Robinson, which was rather easy as he was behind bars and interrogate him up & down.
103. Deans story is that he had been in the area and had picked up a young partier that night, in fact she was only 14.
104. The 14 year old is Jenny Corrigan.
105.
106. Dean says she kind of forced herself in for a ride to the wooded party spots that night while in town.
107. Dean also purchased some drugs from someone for the night, I believe in the store parkinglot. LSD and cocaine to be specific.
108. He also loaded up on the standard weekend alcohol. By his own admission he was lit up.
109. He doesn’t remember if he used any of the nose candy that night though.
110. Dean was driving around looking for his girlfriend, Tanya Beren who was supposed to meet him to party after she was out of work.
111. The two of them, Dean and the 14 year old, drove around to different places and they did see a few groups of partying kids.
112. They did not see their people though.
113. In the wee hours of the night, Dean ran his car up onto a stump and ripped his bumper off, so the two just stayed where they were until morning. His logic was not to look suspicious and get pulled over.
114. The two of them said that a maroon car pulled up and Paul Jones go out and asked Dean if he saw a girl anywhere.
115. He also said that Paul was visibly drunk.
116. The Jones car leaves, Dean and the young girl stay where they are to sober up.
117. A few hours later they left and saw the Jones car again. This time they saw the two guys standing over the body of a woman.
118. He jumped out of the car and ran toward the group of three when he slipped and sprawled onto the forest ground.
119. Paul promptly took a boot to his head and the young girl started laying on the horn….so Dean jumped back into the car and they took off.
120. Blatantly the young girl was freaking out when she saw the two men dragging the body towards their car, but Dean insisted that the two of them were taking the woman to the hospital.
121. That is their story and he swore to the young lady that everything was fine and to keep her mouth shut as he dropped her off at home.
122. Dean went to his sisters house and she helped him deal with his boot licking. His sister threw some super glue on it and called it good.
123. They now have Jenny & Dean’s confession, 20 plus years later.
124. They also have the confession of Lindsey Bradley. Lindsey was on and off with Paul and she swears that she saw Shannon’s class ring in the ashtray in his truck.
125. The important part about this is more what Paul said, “Let’s face it, she’s probably dead.”
126. Investigators jumped on that because they never let the class ring information out.
127. Pat Headly even had metal detected the area where Shannon’s id’s were found and never found the ring there. So it was a rather significant statement to him.
128. Detectives are ready to head to a probable cause hearing on Monday June 23, 2014.
129. The judge ruled that with the confessions of Dean & Jenny there was enough to take it to trial.
130. June 24, 2014 Matthew & Paul Jones were charged in the homicide of Shannon Siders.
131. While they were awaiting trial, Jenny Corrigan manages to make several visits to the jail where Dean was housed.
132. Not by the way of a visitor either. Jenny Corrigan wasn’t even on the inmates visitor list!
133. She was getting in because she as listed as a minister.
134. Investigators believe that Dean and Jenny may or may not have been concocting their story on her numerous visits.
135. Jenny denied any sort of relationship with Dean.
136. Trial started on _______
137. Both brothers would be tried at once, making it a dual trial.
138. I think I saw dual juries too. Like double the jurors?
139. Prosecutors would claim that the brothers tried to sexually assault Shannon became enraged when she declined.
140. When she ran from them, they hit her with their car to stop her. Raping, beating and eventually murdering Shannon.
141. 2 if the witnesses were inmates who benefited from their testimony.
142. Mary, Shannon’s mom was put on the stand.
143. Miss Vicky went on stand and surprised everyone with a totally flipped script from her previous interviews with investigators.
144. Despite her faithful daily routines, she suddenly couldn’t remember things properly.
145. Numerous people took the stand. Do you know who didn’t take the stand? Aimee Bonner.
146. She is literally heard saying that they were not going to put her on the stand and make a fool of her.
147. Did she think that she was going to do all of this investigation then never have to go to trial?
148. **What happened?? Did she take off.?
149. Add Seeking Justice ep 18 clip of Aimee starts at 1:26
150. Jenny Corrigan testified and did say that Dean wanted a lot for his testimony for this trial (dean was in jail for assulting a woman)
151. Jenny also said she was afraid to tell anyone, Dean reminded her throughout the years to keep her mouth shut.
152. She was young, ignorant and scared.
153. The trial went on for 16 days.
154. Closing arugments for the trial were on 4-20-2015
155. Matthew Jones was guilty of 1st degree murder w/out parole.
156. Paul Jones 2nd degree murder with 30-75 years.
157. Two years ago, Bill Proctor was contacted to look into the innocence of The Jones bros New eggo.
158. Bill is founder of the Proving Innocence foundation aka PI and he is a PI.
159. His foundations purpose is to investigate, educate, advocate, support & assist innocent people in michigan.
160. He has been rather successful thus far.
161. Two years ago, when he was contacted about the Jones case, he decided to take it on.
162. In Bill Proctors opinion: Too many things about the trial just didn’t add up
-Fishy that a cold case team was brought together
-Stories are mostly conjecture
-Hear say statements
-Things that sounded incriminating
-That the Jones were never on the original suspect list
-Zero forensic evidence against them
163. He talked to numerous people from the area also, has the entire notebook of the case.
164. I said that a lot of the testimony was that people had overheard the Jones Brothers Newaygo say ‘things’ regarding the death of Shannon.
165. So, PI Bill got to work on what was said, being said…..how far they were said from. All of the things.
166. He also found Dean Robinson, in prison.
167. He learned (from Dean) that Dean actually lied at The Jones Brother Newaygo trial.
168. Dean Robinson is now claiming that he never has ever met the Jones Brothers, let alone have seen them that night.
169. He claims it was all put into his mouth via the police.
170. Dean has since signed papers in front of a notary basically saying that he lied under oath at that trial.
171. Let us not forget that Dean was tossed into jail in 2020 for assult with intent to do bodily harm less murder by strangulation, home invasion, Solicitation to commit perjury and witness bribery
172. Dennis Robinsons current earliest release date is July 26, 2025.
173. There are a lot of random coincidences that Bill was able to come up with.
174. One woman, swears that her father did it. Why? Because she saw her father rape & hurt other girls before.
175. There are a bunch of video’s that you can watch on what Bill Proctor found as far as the innocence of the Jones Brothers.
176. The videos are called Seeking Justice (which like a million video’s will come up so I will link it below) along with his website.
177. Between the time of Shannon’s death in 1989 and the time of their arrest in 2014 managed to get into a bit of trouble.
178. Matthew does not show previous sentences.
179. Paul is a different story. He has collected 5 sentences from 3 different dates.
-June 30, 2004 2 sentences for Home Invasion. One a 1st degree, the other 2nd degree.
-July 29, 2004 Home invasion 1st degree
-June 13, 2006 2nd degree home invasion and possession or sale of weapons (a taser)
180. So, Dean’s word doesn’t sound too steady to me. I’m just saying.
181. It’s been 2 years since Bill Proctor posted anything regarding the Jones brothers.
182. The Jones brothers remain in jail.
183. Matthew Jones release date never.
184. Paul Jones release date never.
