Michigan Murders & Music
Our podcast is about murders and mayhem in Michigan. We will go through the cities, lakes, swamps, the 'back 40', and all over the Great Lakes State discussing a plethora of murders. We will include interesting stories that may not lead to murder but are just plain weird. Homicides, domestic abuse awareness cases, stabbings, missing people and cold cases. Our stories will describe as little of the victims side as possible. We believe the families have already been through enough. But we will definitely be mocking the murderer, the bad guy....the one who may or may not deserve it. Consider us your comedic crime duo. It's as though we are sitting in a living room, talking true crime with you.
We have an amazing music scene. Michigan has brought us many greats like Iggy Pop, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Eminem, Alice Cooper and SO many more. Music brought Your Highness and Boot together, Roger that! Boot is a musician and plays bass. We love our local music scene and want to support all of them. So we will end each story with a little local music, leaving you with a happy ending, and on a good note!

Master Robert Bashara
MDOC# 666
DOB 12/12/1957
DOD 8/17/2020
Resides in hell
- Son of a court of appeals judge, George Bashara
- Mom appeared to be rather wealthy
- Robert didn’t suffer from poverty while growing up
- Raised in Grosse Pointe area
- In 1986 Robert married Jane and at the time of this story, would have been married for 26 years.
- They went on to produce two lovely kids: 1 boy and 1 girl
- 54 year old Robert was known in Grosse Point as a philanthropist and a business man who owned numerous rental properties.
- He even served as a Rotary member for a while
- It was also rumored that he snorted cocaine and smoked a little weed
- Robert rolls around town thinking he’s a bad ass in an old Lincoln, not even a cool one, with the plates reading BIG BOBB
- His wife, 56 year old Jane was also very active in the community and worked as a senior marketing manager at an energy consulting firm.
- Jane and coworkers were attending a meeting on January 24, 2012
- After the meeting, she simply never returned to work
- When Jane didn’t show up at their home that evening, Robert called in to file a missing persons report around 11:30 pm that night
- The next day, January 25 a tow truck was rolling around Detroit looking for abandoned cars or vehicles in need of a tow, actually I think he was looking for stolen vehicles on the Eastside of Detroit.
- This man discovered a Mercedes Benz on Annott St, near the rear of the alley. Sure sign of a stolen vehicle.
- Unfortunately, he didn’t find a stolen beemer, rather he found Jane Bashara, deceased.
- Jane lay dead in the back seat of her own Benz
- The news channels were on this story from the start because it was a rich family, I mean prominent and well liked family.
- There are a few videos where Robert is so upset about his wife. At one point, he brings his mom and his son and they say how heart broken they are that Jane has been found deceased.
- Detroit PD & Michigan State Police were brought in to investigate the situation, as they already knew there was a missing persons report, the investigation into Janes death has begun.
- Just a few days later, January 27 the police chief of Grosse Pointe held a news conference stating that Robert Bashara was the main suspect in the homicide of his wife.
- While the police are investigating Robert and trying to build their case, they are surprised by a visit on January 31st from a man named Joe Gentz.
- Joe not only rented from Robert Bashara and was also his handyman for his rental properties and such.
- Prior to going to the police station, Joe had spent the morning with his pastor and then some quality time at Coney Island.
- He then went to tell the detectives what he knew of Jane and Roberts story.
- At first, he is just saying that he and 4 others had been asked to be hit men for Robert, claiming that all Robert asked of him was to kill Jane. Maybe hoping that they would just look into Robert for the murder
- It’s like he is in there trying to do the right thing…but you can see that it is going to go south real quick like.
- Officers and Joe started getting a little heated during this conversation, Joe eventually says that he was basically threatened by Robert and that if he didn’t do it, he was a dead man.
- Then, he went on to tell detectives what happened that night.
- The two of them waited in the garage until Jane came home and then they killed her.
- He stated that Robert had a gun pulled out pointed at him and told him to do it…then just gave some gruesome details.
- He claims that Robert paid him $8,000 (there are places that say 2 but in the interrogation, he says 8) plus an old Cadillac to “take care of his wife”
- He then confesses to helping Robert dispose of Jane’s body after the fact.
- Joe didn’t have the best history. By all means, it wasn’t anything he could help.
- He had a history of
-bipolar
-intermittent explosive personality disorder
-seizure disorder
-antisocial traits
-borderline mental retardation
-blind in the left eye due to birth defect
-impulse disorder
All of which he refused to take medication for, leaving for instability. He had lost his child and was in the midst of a custody thing. Basically, losing his child.
- In 1999 Joe had threatened to kill his brother, his wife and some dude in the hospital parking lot
- Hospitalized 3 times between 1999-2001 for psychiatric reason and suicidal tendancies.
- He had a few domestic violence situations
- He did not have parental rights of his daughter
- Not allowed to visit his child alone, he had to have supervision.
- Anyway, they hold Joe for 72 hours, while they have confession I guess they don’t have the evidence or ability to arrest him at this point.
- After Joe confesses the story, they believe him. It's pretty clear that the husband did it. If he didn’t personally kill her, he made someone do it.
- Robert’s background is extensively searched.
- Big Bobb with two b’s is a sadomasachist. What is a sadomasachist, you say? Well, google says:
A sadomasochist is someone who enjoys both sadism and masochism, which are the acts of inflicting or receiving pain or humiliation for sexual gratification
- They discovered his dungeon of bob-doom in the basement of a restaurant that he owned.
- Ironically called the Hard Luck Lounge
- We learn that among numerous woman, his current mistress of choice is a lady named Rachel Gillett, he was with her for 3 years
- Her home ends up being raided in search for any evidence connected to Janes murder.
- While they claimed that she was not a person of interest, they were seen leaving with several boxes of evidence.
- Robert is brought in for an interview, and I must say..held himself together quite well. I wouldn’t have known that he had something to do with this.
- He did throw Jane under the bus by telling them that she smoked weed though. Indicating that maybe that is why she was on the Eastside of Detroit.
- His exact words were, “I don’t want to narc on my poor wife but she did smoke marijuana.”
- Robert gave his dna to them and he took a polygraph
- He epically failed the polygraph
- The Bashara’s home was searched twice, I believe. The electronics were taken and they also found 3 blood spots in the garage.
- The next day detectives released to the media that Roberts isn’t just a suspect, he is the ONLY person of interest.
- Meanwhile, Joe is needed at a custody hearing and while he is there he is hearing the rumors & whispers that they plan to arrest him.
- Instead of letting them come for him, Joe went to the police station and turned himself in
- Joe is charged with 1st degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder
- Joe is charged with murder becoming MDOC Number: 863291
- Residing currently at the Central Michigan Correctional Facility
- In December Joe pled guilty
- Robert had already paid someone to un-alive his wife, now it’s June and he is trying to find someone who will murder Joe while he is in jail. Unbelievable.
- One guy went to cops with Roberts hit deal, ratting him out. He went on to wear a wire and help get Robert busted.
- In June, 2012, Bashara was charged with Solicitation of Murder.
- On October, 11, 2012, Robert pleaded guilty as charged to Solicitation to Murder Joseph Gentz at a pre-trial hearing before Judge Bruce U. Morrow.
- When the medical examiner returned with the cause of death being strangulation, noting that the windpipe was broken, her fingernails were torn and broken. She had bruises everywhere, Joe’s blood under her fingernails and the fact that her body had been moved AFTER she was strangled, led to more charges for Big Boob, I mean Bob.
- First Degree Murder
- Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder
- Solicitation to Commit Murder
- Subornation of Perjury During a Capital Trial
- Witness Intimidation
- Obstruction of Justice
- The investigation took just over a year
- The blood in the garage came back to being just Jane and Roberts
- Tech dude found 472 calls from Robert to Joe the month of the murder
- On the morning of the murder Robert called Joe 20 times
- The mistress of 3 years testified against him, as did another lady who was asked to have a 3 way with them.
- Robert claimed that Jane was aware of his lifestyle.
- There were around 300 witnesses and approximately 5000 pages of documents for the case.
- The investigation led them into Iowa, Illinois, Florida, Kentucky, Oregon and Texas.
- Because of this 15 agencies helped bust Robert Boob Bashara for the murder of his wife Jane.
- The trial would take 12 weeks with Judge Vonda Evans ruling her court.
- Judge Evans was so amazing to the BDSM community by stating that Robert Bashara turned the rules of their community around to fit his own needs.
- On December 10th 2014 Robert was found guilty of
-conspiracy to commit a homicide/premeditated 1st degree
-solicitation of homicide murder
-Homicide murder 1st degree premeditated
-obstruction of justice
- Robert Bashara was sentenced to life without parole on January 15, 2015
- It’s not over though. In January the following year, 2016, Joe claims that he lied on stand, perjury.
- He also claimed that Robert did not pay him to do it. No money exchanged hands.
- When he went on the stand during this session though, he totally went back on it and stuck with the original story. Crazy.
- The interview that I heard on WXYZ-TV Detroit when they asked Joe,
“...could Joe Gentz be capable of being manipulated again?”
Joe responded with…well hell. Let’s just play the clip so you can hear from the horses mouth
*play clip starting at 2:40
- Robert began having health problems in July of 2020, being hospitalized that month
- On August 18, 2020 Jane’s family was finally set free of their torture, Robert Boob Bashara died at the ripe age of 62.
- His freaking attorney Lillian Diallo stated in reply to Roberts death, “May his soul rest in peace. He had a tortured existence the last few years of life, and hopefully he will be accepted into the arms of the LORD.”
- Ummmmmm NO MA’am. That is not how this works. Big Booby only spent 8 years in prison for murdering his wife. Rot in hell.
