Gratitude is being aware of and thankful for the good things that happen, taking time to express thanks! It is a sense of thankfulness and joy in response to receiving a gift, whether the gift be a tangible benefit from a specific other or a moment of peaceful bliss evoked by natural beauty. Gratitude comes from being aware that one has benefitted from the actions of others.

Ways to add gratitude in  your life:

  1. Every day, select one small yet important thing that you take for granted. Work on being mindful of this thing in the future.
  2. Express thanks to all who contributed to your success, no matter how small their contribution might have been . Be aware of the degree to which your success is a product of others’ helpful influence in addition to your own hard work.
  3. Express thanks without just saying “thanks” - be more descriptive and specific (e.g., “ I appreciate you or I appreciate your advice”). Observe how people notice detailed gratitude as opposed to a simple reactionary “Thanks”
  4. Set aside at least ten minutes every day to savor a pleasant experience. Decide to withhold any conscious decisions during those ten minutes
  5. Before eating, think of all the people who have contributed to what you are eating. Do this at least once a week.
