Women’s Basketball: You Can’t Disrupt Us

Leah Weiss and Jennifer Weiss Season 2 Episode 2

Murriel was a forward and center in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) for eleven seasons. She played college basketball for the University of Florida, and was drafted in the first round of the 1998 WNBA Draft. She played professionally for the Washington Mystics and the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA. She is currently an assistant coach at Georgia Tech, and her team went to the round of 8 in the NCAA tournament last month.

Murriel speaks with us about the WNBA, support from the NBA players for the professional women, and the challenges in reconciling the differences between the male and female professional leagues.  The details about the experience for the female basketball players in San Antonio in juxtaposition to the male players in Indianapolis are unbelievable.  Yet Murriel has a superpower… her serenity.  She is adamant, “Women’s basketball is a great product and no matter what you do, you can’t disrupt us.”  Murriel’s pearls of wisdom include advice to “control the controlables,” which are our attitude and effort.
