Ronald Season 7 Episode 5

Welcome to Stories of the Old Testament, Podcast 5, “Creation Pt 4.”
Examine verse one carefully for it raises a very important question.

Genesis 2:1

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

The ubiquitous word host appears in several contexts in the Bible: The Host of Heaven, The Lord of Hosts, The Hosts of the Lord, Heavenly Host, The God of Hosts, The Lord of Sabaoth (which means hosts). It may refer to Angelic or Celestial Armies, Great Multitudes, Multitudes of Angels. In the above it refers to all the spirit children of God.

Now let’s return to Chapter 1, versus 26 and read it in light of the phrase “all the host of them.”

Genesis 1:26

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”

Why is it plural rather than singular? God uses the pronouns ‘us,’ ‘our,’ and ‘them.” Adam and Eve are not mentioned. The pronoun ‘them’ refers to “all the host of them.’ In other words, we were all spirit children of God. The purpose of the creation of the earth is to give physical bodies to all God’s Spirit children. The verses above refer, not to earthly man, but to the spirit children of God. “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” ‘Man’ is plural. “The phrase ‘host of them’ clearly refers to the creation of all of God’s spirit children. The scriptures often refer to us as ‘children of God.’

Romans 8:16-17

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”

1 John 3:1–2

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

We know that only Adam and Eve were created and placed in the Garden of Eden. The purpose of the earth is to give physical bodies to all of God’s spirit children. All the rest of God’s spirit children will come through the lineage of Adam and Eve after they are cast out of the Garden. That was the plan from the beginning.

Now let’s continue with the image stated in Chapter 1.

Genesis 1:27-28

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

The pronoun ‘them’ refers to all the ‘hosts of heaven.’ The first creation is a spiritual creation, not a temporal creation. In other words, it refers to all the spirit children of God who are called “all the host of heaven.” The spirits of everyone who will inhabit the earth have been created. No one has been placed in the Garden of Eden yet. The spiritual creation is what the Lord is referring to when speaking to Job.

Job 38:4-7

“Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”
