The Motivation Story
The Motivation Story | S2 Episode # 3 Matt Spanton - Private Jets, Heart attack, Lamborghinis, Alcohol, $100M + Company , Spiritual Journey & Mentoring
Since 2002, I have built my brand and company CAT 5 Contracting into one of the nation's top 20 contracting firms. I started in door-to-door sales like a lot of you, but quickly moved into management and scaled the company by opening multiple branches simultaneously operating coast to coast and border to border. I did this by taking the process expertise which my team and I perfected and then built the first ever cradle-to-grave software (Acculynx) for the catastrophe restoration industry. Though the technology was cutting edge for our industry, it still lacked total customization to fit each company properly. I sold my interest and began building a solution which now can be offered and tailored to each client I serve. Through its inception, I began offering consulting on not only software integration but especially streamlining company protocols, reducing overhead, increased production capacity, and value.
While simultaneously building CAT5 to the premier coastal general contracting company in Florida and the east coast, I began honing my skills on large loss claims perfection for resorts, condominium associations and commercial properties. My reputation has grown for being recognized as the man to call when the jobs too big, the claim is denied or stuck, or your company is short on sales, process, or profit.
I am a loving husband and father of my wife Drew and two beautiful princesses Matysen and Olivia. They are truly are the best gifts god has graced me with. My wife is my spritual beacon and rock who has stood beside me in the darkest hours. My daughters have taught me more about happiness and drive than any business accomplishment could ever offer. I am an avid big game hunter, sports car collector, a fitness nut and you can catch me at nearly every Green Bay Packers game.
I can talk endlessly about my wife & girls, I can swap hunting and fishing stories, discuss the drivability of the 720s vs the Aventador, or debate why Rodgers is the best Quarterback in the NFL. You are here for a different purpose.
I am a winner. I do not feel the need to hide that. I am not ashamed of my success and not feel the need to downplay it to appease others. I am also a devoted spiritual man and realize that humility goes further to truly connect with people than inspiring through fancy cars or big projects. This is the reason Ive formed a mens group for mentoring (thedivinewarriors.com)
My story isn't all sunshine and rainbows. It's full of overcoming huge obstacles. I've been fired days before my daughters first birthday from the company I put my entire heart into for over a decade. I've lost huge deals, been defamed by those closest to me, been the victim of frivolous lawsuits which cost me millions just to clear my name. I overcame the widow maker heart attack and emergency quadruple bypass at the peak of my career while navigating a 3 year long volatile divorce. I continued through this, using the obstacles as fuel and overworking myself to the point of exhaustion.
Something was missing though. I was dead inside spiritually. Im humbled to say I was aabusing alcohol daily to numb out the pain. I was using working 12-14 hours per day as armor to keep away the arrows of fear coming at me from every direction that i am mortal and may lose this battle with heart disease. I used materialism and success as masks for a man who was always looking for my true purpose.
Through a tragic event which was followed by my spiritual awakening back in 2021, I have steadily been on a trajectory far different than the Matt Spanton of years past. I am now a person I'd be proud to call my friend, father, husband and mentor. This is the person who now stands before you. A man full of humility, integrity, love and happiness. A Divine Warrior.
