Did you know that children being inactive is currently an epidemic that will have serious health repercussions for years to come? How can we get students to become more active while learning at school? This is a challenge that John Smedley has set out to solve.

Jon Smedley, a former teacher, and founder of Teach Active. He is a former primary teacher and sports coordinator who works in partnership with the Youth Sports Trust and is the founder of the ‘UK’s Largest Active Learning Day’. Inspired by a child he taught many years ago who struggled with engagement in lessons, Jon has dedicated the last 20 years to helping schools inject more activity into the school day.

His Teach Active programme provides almost 3,000 maths and English active lesson plans for teachers to use in primary school. With over 1,000 UK and international schools using Teach Active, including the UK’s primary school of the year Kensington Primary School and Dubai’s The Arbor School.

In just this year alone, Teach Active has won international and UK awards at both Bett and The Education Resources Award (ERA).

50 free active lesson plans are available from www.teachactive.org.
