Happy Thursday and welcome back! Tuesday was Election Day, a day overshadowed by the ongoing conflict and the censure of Palestinian American Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who was unjustly silenced after expressing her criticism of the Israeli government and the U.S. decision to aid in the attack on Gaza. With former President Trump leading in the polls, I thought this would be a good time to reiterate the role of civic participation. Although voting is a powerful way to shift sentiment, it’s not enough. Today, review why going beyond the ballot is critical for our collective wellbeing.

Take Action

  • Review the information to register to vote and make sure, if available, you’re ready for upcoming elections.
  • Spend more time in conversation with your local and national representatives. Save their contact information for moments of crisis (like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict) and send your opinions on recent decisions they’ve made (like the decision to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib.
  •  Support organizations and initiatives working to protect and eliminate voting barriers.
  • Consider: who are the people in your city, state or country that reflect your political views that aren’t candidates? You can think of community organizers, advocates, educators, or entertainers. How can you support them each election season?
