One year ago this week, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic.   Dr. Til Jolly, Aveshka’s Chief Medical Officer and IIFX Distinguished Fellow, touches base with Dr. Molly O’Shea, Pediatrician, Parent Coach, Writer, and Speaker (www.drmollyoshea.com) to examine how youth mental health has fared under year one of the pandemic. Dr. O’Shea emphasizes for parents, coaches, school leaders, or anyone that works with children, the criticality of addressing youth mental health issues and encouraging those that need help to get it. She also discusses how a safe return to sports and activities are a crucial step to getting our youth’s mental and physical welfare back on track.

PRODUCER'S NOTE:  Today is 11 March 2021, exactly one year to the day that the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 virus as a pandemic.  As of this posting, there are more than 118 million people who have tested positive for the virus and more than 2.6 million deaths worldwide; a horrendous toll.  There is hope the pandemic will pass into history next year as the rapid development and distribution of multiple vaccines signals the advent of herd immunity.  While the world will never be free of COVID-19, the likelihood of it becoming something seasonal, like the flu, may make it manageable.  One thing we know from our collective experience during the pandemic is that we are all still learning more about COVID-19.  So IIFX, Aveshka, and the IIFX Medical Task Force will continue to bring you up to date information about COVID-19 and other public health and safety hazards.
