"Our students love one another! For them colour and where you come from does not mean anything! they have learnt how to embrace one another"- T.Mafodya

Today we welcome Tatenda Mafodya, school leader of the Streetlight Schools. Her dream has always been to change the world.

Streetlight Schools aims to showcase a vision for how we can empower and holistically develop ALL children in South Africa, especially those from underserved communities. That’s why they launched a primary school in Jeppestown where learners – despite coming from single-parent homes, hijacked buildings, and a community marred by xenophobia, riots and crime – are creating aspirational, fun, beautiful, creative, thoughtful and sophisticated work.

In this episode we will discuss how school can be a space of transformation and integral innovation. Why caring and love are at the heart of change in education. How to innovate in teacher’s education for better learning experiences. We will also discover the importance of a student centered education. Finally Tatenda will share her light on how the school is a space for healing, community building and reconciliation where true citizenship and character is built.
