Yamina Bibi FCCT is a proud daughter, sister and aunt who is an award-winning secondary school Assistant Headteacher, English teacher and a coach. Yamina is a network leader in London for #WomenEd, a global organization dedicated to uplifting and empowering women in education from all backgrounds to be 10% braver and lead within and beyond schools.

In this episode, Yamina explains the significance of being named a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching, and she discusses the power of literature in exploring diverse identities and communities, and in understanding the discrimination and portrayal of minoritized groups … her decision in 2009 to teach in a school where she was the only hijab-wearing Muslim teacher… creating a safe space in her classroom where, as Yamina says, “We are all welcome, we are all loved, and we are all equal”… her experiences facing xenophobia and racism as a British Bangladeshi child and adult… the role of her parents in teaching her and her siblings that their voices mattered and were heard… the role of #WomenEd and #EduTwitter in convincing her that her voice mattered… the #WomenEd challenge to become “10% braver” and to apply for leadership positions in education… facing and overcoming fears, with the support and encouragement of other women… and the importance of seeking out judgment-free coaching to help us move beyond our comfort zone and to address our fear of failure.  (England)
