Feeling a little emotionally stretched by the state of the world lately? Same. The headlines are loud, the energy is weird, and even if you’re trying to stay grounded, it can still feel like there’s a lot in the air. Sensitive and intuitive people often feel that pressure first—and sometimes we end up carrying way more of it than is healthy.
In this episode, we'll talk about that strange tension many spiritually aware people feel during funky times—the pull to stay compassionate and aware without letting the stress of everything drain your energy. There’s a middle space where you can care about what’s happening in the world and still stay connected within.
Christina shares three ways to work with your oracle cards when the collective energy feels a little funky. Not the usual “what’s going to happen next?” questions. These are the kinds of card pulls that help you reconnect with your Soul, remember the strength you brought into this lifetime, and notice the support that is everpresent.

Christina Wooten:Hey there, kindred spirits. Welcome to Modern Life and Spirit Podcast. I'm Christina Wooten, certified psychic medium at SedonaMedium.com Welcome to our episode today. Wow. Lots of things have been shifting this week. I think that a lot of sensitive and intuitive people have been feeling this like build up of energy for a long time, and it's just wow. What a time, what a time. I was also thinking that it's such an interesting contrast the energy that we have going around, that's shifting, that's changing things, and then beautiful things that are still happening today. I made hummingbird food, for example, because I saw the second hummingbird of the season pop up over to the window to see, oh, do you have a feeder? So I'm excited about that. I'm so looking forward to coming back and welcoming the joy, which is the energy of hummingbird to our house by hanging feeders with this weekend, we plugged in the fountain outdoors and started the water going for all the birds, and already the birds are enjoying it. It's just a contrast between the things that are happening in the world that are beautiful, the miracles of how things just continue on, and then the difficult things, the suffering that exists in the world at the same time. It's an interesting contrast, and I don't know about you, but it does seem that there's a lot happening at one time. It's in the headlines, it's in the economy, it's in conversations, just like it's like, you cannot avoid this. Sometimes it even shows up in that tightening in your chest when you're like, checking the news or scrolling your phone. And if you're someone who is sensitive, if you're intuitive, if you're emotionally aware of the energy around you, you are feeling it even more. In addition to just how this thread of energy is playing out, you can kind of see beyond just the moment of it and feel where it's headed. You know, there's kind of this collective hum that happens during times like this. It's this undercurrent in the emotional atmosphere. Even if you're not watching the news constantly, even if you're trying to stay balanced, you can still feel that something is shifting. And when that happens, many thoughtful and spiritually aware people start asking themselves questions. Like, you know, what am I supposed to do with all of this? How do I stay compassionate without just being overwhelmed all the time? Or, I know this one comes up for me. How do I stay informed without letting it constantly consume my peace. Over the years, I've found comfort in many spiritual traditions, but when times feel particularly heavy, I often remember something simple that comes from Buddhist wisdom, and it just begins with a very honest acknowledgement that suffering exists, uncertainty exists and change exists. And these elements are inescapable. No amount of Timeline Jumping, which seems to be the theme these days, is going to change that suffering exists, uncertainty exists and change exists. And strangely enough, for me, that acknowledgement is very calming, because it means we don't have to pretend that everything is fine, and we don't have to also spiral into despair. There's a middle space, a place where we can say yes, things feel very uncertain right now, but also I am still here, and that middle space that's where I want to sit with you today, not bypassing what's happening, not absorbing all of it, either, just observing, Being aware and also being grounded in higher principles. You know, our spirit guides are steady. It's one of the things that we have talked about previously, in knowing the difference between our intuition and our emotional responses. Our emotional responses can be panicky, can be very urgent. You must do this. You have to do this. It's got to have. Happen right now, whereas our intuition is is calm, it's clear, it's direct, it doesn't have that same emotional charge. Not to say that our emotions don't respond to what we are aware of intuitively, that's definitely the case, but the impression itself is is clear. It comes from a more pure place. Our spirit guides bring that steadiness. They are not asking you to panic. They're not asking you to fix the world. They're not asking you to carry more than is yours. They are inviting you to stay connected. They are inviting you to stay present and to stay anchored, I think, more importantly, in what sustains you. For me as a sensitive person, one of the things that sustains me is spiritual practice, feeling connected with what is really true, being consistent in that practice, even on the days that I just don't want to because I will always walk away feeling better, and the best way that I have found to get there is to sometimes just sit with the soul energy, to spend a little bit more time listening, connecting and asking the important questions, trying to understand. So sitting with our soul is so clarifying, because it it just doesn't overreact. It's our soul. Is that that calming force? It's it's simplified. It's not the mind's energy, which is all the time. It brings a simplicity to things, and when we slow down and when we can listen from that space, you'll feel clearer about what you can actually impact. What love looks like in any given situation, and what feels like the highest and the best response in whatever situation we're in. All the big things that the human mind is imagining starts to settle down in comparison with the soul. The answers about what you're being called to do become more focused. It becomes more direct, more simple. You know, our mind can have a to do list that is 80 things long, but our soul is like, go for a walk today. I can't tell you how many times that has happened. When I do my daily intuitive booster and I sit with spirit about what are my real priorities, my mind has so many ideas about what I should be doing, and they always make it so simple. They're like, go outside for five minutes. But those five minutes can be the most cherished time. They really are what I need. All the other things are things that I think that I need, and most of the time I don't. There's a lot of relief in the simplicity of that. Now, this isn't about running away from what's happening. It isn't pretending that suffering doesn't exist. It's about remembering that we don't have to get lost in the swirl of thoughts that are generated by the emotional reaction and the instability and the overload, the fears, or just the daily burnout that come from trying to carry too much or being exposed To all of this all the time, sometimes the most powerful thing that we can do is just to pause and return to center to ask for a little bit of guidance from the deeper parts of ourselves. Last episode, we talked about oracle cards, how to create a relationship with your oracle cards. So if you missed that episode, you know maybe you want to pause this one and check out episode 257, and come back to this episode, because it is important that you have that as a foundation for what I'm going to be talking about today. I thought that we'd talk a bit more today about connecting with your cards in ways that aren't just predictive. There are ways to work with your oracle cards and work with your presence and your connection, to feel more supported, to feel uplifted when there's a lot of human uncertainty happening, such as our current climate. So I'm going to share some conversations to have with your oracle cards or with your spirit guides, or in your next reading with me to just bring forward more of the messages of the soul. For right now, I'm also going to post these questions to my website. So if you are driving, if you're doing something where writing things down is not convenient, stay tuned to the end for how to get a copy of the questions. So the first one is focusing on, where are you supported right now? So when the world gets this unstable feeling and our human minds start scanning for danger, that's just a normal reaction, a normal response. It's part of how we are wired. But our spirit guides are not our. Operating from that same sense of urgency. They're not all caught up in the swirl of fear or this constant stream of like, oh my gosh, what if and this could happen, and this blah, blah, blah. They're looking at things from a much wider perspective, one that is steady and loving and clear and has seen the full picture play out, and when we slow down enough to listen from that space, something shifts, and the next step often becomes much simpler than our minds were imagining. So here's a different kind of spread that you can try with your Oracle Card. So you're going to pull three cards. You line them up horizontally, and the first one is going to represent where am I already supported that I'm overlooking. The second card is going to represent what protection is around me right now. And number three is what stability can I lean into today? So notice how that is a very different energy than what's going to happen. What should I worry about? What's coming next? It's so important to remind ourselves that in this time, we are supported, that we are helped, that we are exactly what we need to be in this time, in this space, our soul is capable, is ready, has chosen this experience, to be here, to witness this, to be who we are in this moment, and we need to step into that space of trust, of knowing that we are supported. So this just reorients us from going into a constant scanning mode for danger and how to prepare, and instead settles into that truth of I am being supported. I have stability that I can focus on right now, even in the midst of all of this uncertainty, that's really helpful for your nervous system, and it also trains you to pay attention to the miracles that are happening right now. Like last night, was the most incredible sunset it I mean, it was on fire. It was so beautiful. And the moment that I see that I always try and walk outside and sit with the sunset and try and watch it almost, almost every night, unless it's too cold, and then I'm not here for it. But now that's warming up every time I see the sunset, I go and sit on the bench and just watch and melt into it. Those miracles are happening right now. The beauty of the birds returning is happening right now. We have to be present with those things and get away from the scanning, scanning, scanning, which is very strong in empaths in general. That's a strong attribute is that scanning ability. That's generally how you developed your empathic skills to such a high level, so you're kind of already naturally your intuition can be more naturally trained towards what's wrong or what could happen, or what do I need to be aware of? So this helps us to reorient some of that, so that instead you start scanning for, where am I supported? Where can I find more self trust? Where can I find more trust in what's happening, in the moment, in my environment? So maybe that just reminds you of the roof over your head. Maybe this spread just helps you to feel more grateful for that friend who texted you, maybe you just get into the simplicity of feeling thankful for waking up this morning, but your guides are constantly stabilizing you in ways that you don't even see and supporting you in these ways. So let those cards pull some of that out to help you retrain your attention and see things from a different perspective. Now, another practice that I really like is focusing on what your soul brings into this lifetime. So this one is really powerful, especially when those monsters in our head start to feel really big and we start to feel really like small or subject to all of these things. Maybe you're feeling very powerless right now, but there's something that I deeply believe spirit does not assign souls to times that they are not equipped for. So if you are here right now, in this body, in this era, you carry something necessary, a very necessary ingredient. So try instead asking you're going to pull three cards, each one representing something different. So the first is going to represent what strength did my soul bring into this lifetime. So this is awesome, because it really helps. You to understand a little bit more about the power that your soul is bringing in. So think about all the past lives that you have experienced, the things that you've learned, the wisdom that you have gained. Those are strengths that feel very natural, so natural to you that you may not even notice them as strengths, because they're just so easy for you to do, but other people will recognize that in you, so they might reflect it back by saying things like, Oh, you are such a calming presence. You always know the right thing to say. You always show up in just the perfect way that I need. People will reflect that back to you in ways that you don't even recognize, but this allows you to have a conversation with your guides about what strength your soul brings into this lifetime, to see yourself from a bit of a different angle. The second one is, Where can I express the strength more right now? So where do you need to bring this more to the forefront. Where is it important that you start to reorient things so that you are letting this out more? And number three is, how can I embody the strength more this week? So this gets very direct, and it really moves things into action steps. What we don't want to do is just always sit in reflective mode of what is, you know, what is the strength without turning it into, how can I deepen my relationship with this, which ultimately brings a bridge from the reflective nature to our expressive nature. We need to be allowing both of these things to move so we want to make it a little bit more action oriented. How can I embody this strength more this week? What does that look like? So get some ideas from this spread. Maybe your strength is steadiness. Maybe it's having a great sense of humor. Maybe it is your intuition during these times. Maybe it's how wonderful you are at nurturing your family or nurturing your community or people who need you, or your clients. Maybe it's that you are a truth teller and you are here to not dampen that. Maybe it's that you have a strong faith. But we want to reorient to just what does your soul bring into this lifetime. It can give you a little bit of hint about what you want to bring more to the surface, and kind of play with that, what does that look like in your life? And the last practice is about shifting the energy back to Joy. So when things are intense, we have to touch into our real fuel. So the kind of stuff that keeps us going, that helps us to see the beauty of the world, to see each other, to see the miracle in a blade of grass, right? You know, I told you, I've been spending a lot more time in nature. And right now I've been watching the SAP start to come up from the juniper trees as they're getting ready for spring. And once it hardens off a little bit, I'll collect it from the trees to be used for energy cleansing, similar to how you might use sage or something like that, or as a natural incense. And a lot of beautiful things are happening right now, but because our attention is focused in other places, you might be missing some of the little miracles that are happening around you as well. So you want to just invite that back in, invite that awareness again. We're moving from scanning to where can I invite more joy back into my life? So that we're creating balance here, this is, again, another three card spread. The first one is, where is joy already present in my life? So it lets you kind of see things from a different perspective. What I like about this one is that sometimes it's things that you're not even thinking about that really surprise you. Maybe you're thinking, Oh, my joy is really in my creative aspects, in this part of my life, but really, maybe what pops up is, oh, it's the love of family, or it's the love of learning. The things that I'm learning right now are just really like helping me to grow and elevate and that's bringing so much play and creativity and fun. So just be open to number one, where is joy already present in my life? Because I found that it surprises me and it makes me feel so grateful for things, things that I have overlooked that maybe I wasn't realizing how much joy it was bringing me until I had to step out of my head and be the witness and observe something differently. Number two is, what can I be more grateful for? I love this one as well, because it just reminds us there is so much to appreciate. Eight, and we can always experience things on a spectrum of reality. So we can experience it in the negative context. We can experience it in the highest and best context of things. And sometimes we just need to remember that, you know, some of our challenges or burdens can also be things that we have gratitude for as as well, if we're looking at things from a different angle. So another thing that can be a little bit of a surprise here, what can I be more grateful for? And number three is, how can I add more joy to my day? Today, again, this brings it into we're moving into action. We're moving into being more directive, and we're just listening for how can I sort of shift some levers within myself, in my environment, to bring more joy to my day, knowing that we're contributing to how much we're allowing ourselves to receive, how much abundance of the beauty of the world we are allowing in. We need to create room and create space for that. So just asking how we can add more joy to the day to day. If we do that every day, it's going to increase your sense of abundance, and it's going to increase your receptivity for the good things in the world, to make sure you are refueling. And this doesn't have to be like extravagant joy, you know. It's not necessarily, you know, book a trip to Italy joy. In fairness, though, in my humble opinion, there isn't you know, much that, like some authentic pizza, like couldn't improve. But maybe in this particular context, maybe it's small joys, right? So maybe it's warm tea, maybe it's, you know, the squishiness of your dog's face. Maybe it's a sunset. Maybe it's just putting on some great music while you cook. Maybe it's just laughing at something silly. You know, we want to grab and reach for absorbing and allowing all the joy that we can because your joy strengthens your resilience. And when we're going through funky energy and hard times, we also have to feed ourselves as much as possible. And resilient people will change the world in sustainable ways we don't want to just like, burn out constantly flame out, especially with all of this fire horse energy this year that you know is certainly something that can happen, right with just this a very intense energy, and things can happen very quickly. And that fire energy, with the horse, both of them being double young, energy can lead to flame outs. Okay, especially we are just in a very intense time right now. So remember, resilient people can change the world, but we have to feed ourselves. We have to be in touch with the beauty that's there. We have to be able to perceive from that as well make sure that we are strong. I want to leave you with this, that being spiritually aware does not mean absorbing all of the world's anxiety. There is a difference between being informed and being consumed. Your energy is exceptionally powerful, but it's not meant to be depleted, and it will be depleted if we start letting our heads run the show. Our heads expend fuel and aren't really great at refueling, right? So think about like your head creates all the to do list. So you might have 80 things on your to do list from your head. Well, when you finish that to do list, your head's just going to add at least 80 other things, right? It's not necessarily going to be focused on, well, let me rest. Let me be in balance. That's just not what our head is really geared towards doing. But right now, we really need the strength of the soul and the spirit to shine through us. So think about that energy that happens when someone truly spiritual and connected walks into a room, you can feel that energy emanating from them. It radiates out. I mean, is you just can't miss it. But when you're tapped into your soul energy, when you're not living in panic, you are having this effect as well. So listen. So before you sit with your cards today, or you sit down with your journal, or you pull out your meditation cushion, just take a moment and place your hand on your heart and just feel the power of your soul as the witness, and send this thought out to your spirit guides. Ask them for help. Spirit guides help me to remember who I am, and then let them remind you and from that space, then sit down. Sit down with your cards. Sit down with your. Energy and allow what needs to come forward from your heart, from your spirit, from your soul, let that come forward to lead you because you are here for a reason. Your energy is here for a reason. It's time to let that shine. It's time to be your most compassionate self. It's time to be your most loving self. It is time to support our communities that need us. It is time to be sensitive to the needs of others, while also helping to refuel ourselves in these, I hate to say, challenging times, but like there's a lot of uncertainty right now, but our spirit guides will always remind us who we truly are, and they will remind us about our real priorities. They will help us take that 80 million thing to do list, and they'll help us bring it down to the simple where we can have impact and where we can help. Thanks for joining us today. If you want to see the questions that I have talked about in this episode, you can pull up this episode wherever you're listening, and there's going to be a link.
