Carlos Moreno, father of 3, two-time SLCC student body president and Vice-Chairman of the Utah Latino Republicans shares his first-hand knowledge of what happens when a democracy (Venezuela) turns into a repressive socialist regime. Carlos and his family were granted political asylum in the U.S. after the Venezuelan president labeled him a traitor on national TV and charged him with treason and conspiracy against the state. This was due to Carlos' activist work that helped the Venezuelan Opposition Party to pass a bill declaring a humanitarian crisis for international students, allowing them to get help from some schools and protecting them from deportation. He has become an activist against socialism and shares his fears about the socialist movement here in America and insights on how we can avoid the same horror.
