The Psalter of Jesus: Joy for the Weary // Psalm 90
Mar 12, 2017
Pastor Mark Bergin
Every waking moment of life in this world is wearisome. From your very
birth, you were driven toward sleep by the tiring experience of simply
being awake. And sleep has remained a constant and necessary friend ever
since. This is no accident. God has given you the liturgy of waking and
sleeping to forge understanding within your bones of the frailty of
humanity. You are always wearying, ever passing away. You have come from
dust and to dust you will return. Yet, your dusty life is not without
beauty. God himself has infused your frail members with his glory. He has
given you these days to know joy and sorrow, love and hate. The time is
yours to spend, to weary yourself with the rich and meaningful business of
being. You need not despise weariness; it is a sign of life spent. And God
is faithful. He gives you sleep and new morning. And one day soon, he will
give you death and resurrection. Rejoice you weary! Eternal rest nears.
