God cares for the needs of his people, even amid their unfaithfulness. He is a compassionate provider who does not withhold help from us, no matter the cost to himself. Yet, for all this lavish grace toward us, he asks for no payment in return. He has no need of such payment, because to spend himself for others is his joy. He is left
with no deficit. This is the mystery of the life of God, that self-emptying is fullness, that impoverishing love is the greatest wealth. Jesus lived this life, going to the cross for the joy set before him. And he now invites us, through the word of his apostle Paul, to join him. He invites us to participate in the divine and give. He invites us to excel in grace.
