We are quick to associate death with loss. And for good reason. The passing of a loved one leaves a hole in our lives and our hearts. But God does not mean for that hole to go unfilled. He has plans for death, plans to demonstrate his glory and win a final victory. The impending death of the prophet Elisha seemed to threaten the health and stability of the kingdom of Israel. Yet, in truth, the only threat was to Israel’s enemies. God had more life and victory stored up in Elisha’s dead bones than he’d ever shown through his living flesh. The passing of Elisha was no defeat. It was a sign of the victory to come.
