The Business Of Happiness
When you feel good, you do good. In business and in life, we can do better and have a greater impact on the lives of others when we align our intentions and our actions with inner fulfillment. The Business of Happiness Podcast ignites the conversation of redefining our modern definition of success and how to find happiness in our work and, ultimately, in our lives. I am Dr. Tarryn MacCarthy, and in the first 2 decades of my career, I reveled in culturally recognizable success and drowned myself in personal turmoil and depression. Since then, I have embarked on a quest for greater purpose and joy in business and in life. Welcome to the conversation as each week we discuss together, and with successful business owners and leaders, how to strive for happiness. Together we will adventure to discover the secrets to finding true purpose and impact and to redefine our understanding of success. This is The Business of Happiness.

What if the way you treat yourself after a mistake is what keeps you stuck? In today’s episode, Dr. Tarryn MacCarthy shares a powerful reminder for high-achieving women in dentistry and healthcare. Self-criticism does not help you grow. It can raise stress, drain your energy, and pull you back into habits you are trying to change.
After losing 25 minutes to Instagram instead of her morning routine, Dr. Tarryn catches herself before shame takes over. She shares how self-compassion can help you reset, feel calmer, and show up with more strength for your patients, team, family, and yourself. If you care deeply, expect a lot from yourself, and feel tired of never being enough, this episode is for you. Press play before your inner critic starts another shift.

Dr. Tarryn MacCarthy
(0:01) Welcome to the Business of Happiness podcast. (0:05) It's your host, Dr. Tarryn MacCarthy. (0:08) And this is the podcast where we put happiness first.(0:14) I help high achieving, deeply passionate healthcare professionals like you rediscover their happiness and their freedom. (0:23) Join me in conversations with experts to uncover our unique definition of happiness and answer the question, is there really such a thing as work-life balance? (0:35) If you've heard yourself saying, you know, I'll be happy when?(0:41) Well, my friend, the time is now. (0:44) Time to step out of the busyness of your life and time to step into the business of happiness. (0:54) Hi guys, this is Tarryn MacCarthy.(0:56) Hello, welcome to the business of happiness. (0:58) Oh my gosh, this is crazy. (1:02) I am sitting here just having come in from a run.(1:06) I look mad. (1:09) I've never done a podcast episode like this before. (1:12) And if you've listened to me on audio this whole time, you wouldn't know this.(1:16) But if you see me on the YouTube channel, you're going to be shocked by my appearance because there's not a stitch of makeup. (1:22) I am sweaty as all get out. (1:24) I'm wearing the most ridiculous hat.(1:27) You know what? (1:28) There's a reason. (1:29) There's a reason for it.(1:30) And there's a reason why I'm sitting down right after my run to record this podcast because I knew I had to share this message with you. (1:39) So if you're new here at the podcast, welcome. (1:43) It is not usually this crazy, but maybe it's going to be in the future.(1:47) We'll see. (1:48) I am an orthodontist turned podcaster and coach to women dentists. (1:54) And no, I don't coach you on how to make more money, although all of my clients end up doing that.(2:01) But that's not the point. (2:02) I coach women dentists on finding freedom and happiness and autonomy and actually feeling good about themselves, feeling good about life, enjoying their life. (2:16) And why I do this, and I get this question all the time, is why do you only speak to women dentists?(2:24) Because I am one. (2:26) Because I have worked as an orthodontist for 23 years. (2:31) I no longer practice.(2:32) However, I know what it's like. (2:35) I know what it's like, and these are my peeps. (2:38) You're the one I understand.(2:40) I know what it's like. (2:41) I know what we've been through. (2:42) And here's an even deeper reason.(2:46) Because I know the influence and the impact we have on our teams, on our patients, on our children, on our families, on our communities. (3:00) And this is what I love about women dentists, is we have such an enormous reach that we don't even realize. (3:07) And I know, like I know, like I know, that when you love and work on and heal yourself, when you can find that level of freedom and success and autonomy, and when I say success, I mean feeling the number of hours you want to feel in a day, not the amount of money in your bank account.(3:29) I mean like actually feeling wealthy and actually feeling free and actually feeling like you have choice over how you spend the hours of your day and feeling like you have a voice and like you're worthy. (3:41) That's wealth. (3:43) That's the success I'm talking about.(3:45) I know that when we feel that way as women, as leaders, as dentists, as healers, as healthcare providers, as parents, as daughters, as community members, the world around us benefits. (4:00) And that is why I do this work. (4:02) And the reason why I just ran in, and literally I have only a few minutes before I have a client this morning and I need to shower, but this was so important to share with you, is because of one of the things I did this morning that had such a real life impact on me.(4:24) And nothing that I teach in any of my courses or my retreats or my one-on-one coaching, nothing I share and guide women on, do I not fully practice myself? (4:37) Have I not tried and tested on myself? (4:39) And this morning I had one of those aha moments that was so powerful I knew I had to reiterate it on the podcast.(4:48) So here's what happened. (4:50) I get up early. (4:52) I meditate in the morning.(4:55) Then I water some things in my yard. (4:58) I take my morning slow. (5:00) I started doing this about 15 years ago.(5:06) I got up even earlier. (5:08) I know many of us get up early, but I got up even earlier. (5:11) I started patience a little bit later, and I made sure that every morning I started from a place of ease and not activating my nervous system immediately.(5:21) So that means I don't go on my phone immediately. (5:24) It means I don't rush out the door with stress (5:28) and starting my day from that set point of fight or flight (5:32) because I've learned from all the research (5:35) and all the studying that I've done in psychology (5:41) and on human anatomy and on our nervous system (5:43) and on fight or flight and on stress and on trauma, (5:46) the worst thing I can do for myself (5:49) is amp my nervous system up first thing in the morning (5:53) and preset it with stress (5:55) because what follows? (5:57) Stress for the rest of the day.(5:59) Varying levels, but most certainly it will amplify. (6:03) Okay. (6:03) So one of the very most important things I started doing is starting my morning slow.(6:10) For me, that looks like meditation. (6:12) There's no question. (6:13) It's how I empty out all the noise from the outside and I guide myself to calming my body with some nervous system regulation.(6:24) Okay. (6:25) This is not the point of the episode. (6:28) This is just me getting to the story.(6:31) And then I go for a run or some kind of workout. (6:36) For me, that is so important. (6:38) Moving my body is such a great de-stressor.(6:41) It's actually how I started meditating, by the way. (6:43) I'm a long distance runner, and I realized that I was basically meditating on those longer runs. (6:50) It was that repetitive step, that repetitive pace, and sometimes I had music in my ears, sometimes I didn't, but I was breathing at a very regular pattern and I was zoning out for long periods at a time and I realized, oh my gosh, that's what I'm doing.(7:06) It was my introduction to meditation. (7:08) Okay. (7:09) All this being said, this morning I had a plan.(7:13) That was my plan. (7:15) I was going to get up. (7:16) I was going to do the thing.(7:16) I was going to do the thing. (7:19) And when I got up, one of the apps I use for meditation is Insight Timer. (7:25) By the way, I do not get paid by Insight Timer.(7:27) They don't even know who I am, but if you're looking for a phenomenal app, if you're thinking of just dipping your toe into meditation, I highly recommend it. (7:35) It's free. (7:36) It's awesome for a million reasons.(7:39) If you want to know more about it and how I use it, please send me a message. (7:42) Okay. (7:43) I go to my Insight Timer app on my phone and I got distracted by a message.(7:50) I saw I had a message on Instagram and I clicked on it. (7:55) That was my downfall, right? (7:59) 25 minutes later.(8:02) 25 minutes later. (8:04) Now notice, I didn't meditate. (8:07) I didn't water my plants.(8:09) I didn't go for a run. (8:11) 25 minutes later, I came to, out of this absolute dissociation, first thing in the morning, in a world I don't want to be in, infiltrated by messages. (8:25) I really don't choose to be infiltrated by nonsense on Instagram.(8:30) And I came to. (8:33) I thought, oh my gosh. (8:35) Now here's the old patterning.(8:38) The old patterning for me is beating myself up. (8:44) No matter what. (8:46) If I had missed something on a radiograph, if someone, one of my team members said to me they didn't like the way I spoke to them, if I got a poor Google review, real things that in the past would have made me beat myself up and shame myself.(9:10) And maybe even lead to some other kind of behavior that I don't love like binge eating or snapping at my kids. (9:19) I mean all these things that happen subsequent to stress. (9:24) What would precipitate the stress and elevate it and amplify it was the way I speak to myself.(9:31) And so in that moment, and now 25 minutes have gone by. (9:35) And I wake up from this Instagram haze. (9:40) And I caught myself in that moment beating myself up.(9:46) And I stopped. (9:48) And I said, babe, I love you. (9:52) It is okay.(9:54) You are doing great. (9:55) I love you. (9:57) And let's just go for a quick run.(10:00) Let's just do that. (10:01) I love you. (10:02) You can do this.(10:05) And then I did. (10:07) And it made all the difference. (10:09) I mean, look at this.(10:10) Here I am. (10:11) I ran in here so excited to record this podcast. (10:14) My entire day has shifted.(10:16) I took that one moment that could have derailed me. (10:19) Me, the person who for 15 years has been meditating every single morning. (10:25) 15 years.(10:26) And I sat down and gave myself love instead of self-beratement, instead of beating myself up. (10:36) Guys, that is everything. (10:38) I have turned my entire day around.(10:41) I've turned it around in that one instance. (10:45) Yes, the meditation is amazing. (10:48) Yes, the nervous system regulation is amazing.(10:50) Yes, please sign up for my courses because they're incredible. (10:53) They'll change your life. (10:54) And if I were to sum it all into one little nugget, it is learning to love yourself even when you make a mistake, even when you do something that you don't want to do, even if you've done it 47,000 times and you feel like you're still not learning.(11:17) You know why you keep doing it? (11:18) Because you beat yourself up. (11:19) And when you beat yourself up, it puts you back into fight or flight.(11:23) And when you're back in fight or flight, you go into self-protection mode. (11:26) And that means you engage in the behaviors that are not good for you. (11:31) The ones that are good for you are easy to keep going.(11:34) It's the ones that ultimately don't serve you that we return to because there's some part of you that feels like it's protecting you. (11:43) That numbing behavior or fueling behavior like feeding yourself with sugar or carbs or whatever your, I'm going to call it, an emotional addiction is. (11:55) Now, let's take that word addiction.(11:57) I know that feels heavy, especially if any of you have had addictive behaviors in the past, which, by the way, I have. (12:04) So I know exactly what I'm talking about here. (12:06) I'm a recovering alcoholic.(12:08) And actually, I hate that term because I don't believe in labels because I think labels keep us small. (12:15) But yes, I stopped drinking nine years ago and I've not had any alcohol since. (12:21) So I'm very proud of that.(12:22) But it took me five years to stop. (12:26) Five years of patient care. (12:29) Five years of parenting.(12:31) Five years of driving. (12:33) Five years of trying every single day. (12:36) So now I know addiction.(12:37) I know what that looks like. (12:39) And yes, I'm using these words intentionally. (12:42) Emotional addiction.(12:43) And an emotional addiction, what is that? (12:46) Let's take that word addiction. (12:50) Addiction, definition that I'm choosing to go by is a behavior that you continue to do with a result that is not good for you or an unwanted result.(13:04) Right? (13:04) There are addictions that we have, quote unquote. (13:07) I mean, I wouldn't call this an addiction, but we have behaviors of repetitively doing something, but you actually have a good outcome.(13:14) Brushing your teeth, I wouldn't call that an addiction. (13:16) I do it every day. (13:16) Can't stop me.(13:18) And I have a great result from it. (13:21) But it's the addictions where you do it and then you beat yourself up over it or you don't like that you do it. (13:28) Like, man, why do I keep doing this?(13:30) I don't want to keep doing this. (13:32) It's ruining my life here and here and here. (13:36) That is an emotional addiction as well.(13:42) An emotion that is your go-to emotion that makes you feel worse. (13:49) And one of those is shame. (13:53) And I know, I have brought this topic up, probably this is my most revisited topic on the podcast, but self-shaming is so toxic and it is an addiction.(14:11) And one of the, there are so many ways of addressing this specific addiction and it's definitely something we do in my programs. (14:21) So if you're listening to this and you're like, oh my gosh, Tarryn, you are speaking to me, I'm a woman dentist, and this is exactly what I'm struggling with, imposter syndrome, self-shaming, beating myself up, not feeling good enough. (14:33) Let's talk, please, because this is what I do.(14:36) And the only reason I do this with so much passion is because I have lived this. (14:43) And this morning, I saw how powerful, again, I had another moment of, oh my gosh, this is the whole point. (14:53) The whole point is, you are human and you are going to make mistakes.(15:01) Even if you are trying to be the best dentist there ever was, even if you're trying to be the best mother and you care so deeply, you love them so hard, and you're trying to be the best leader of your team and you care so deeply about them. (15:19) Gosh, I'm like, I'm brought to tears here because I remember that. (15:22) I remember when I started my practice and I was like, damn it, I just want to have a practice where these women are honored, where they feel valued and appreciated, where they get adequate maternity leave, where they can take care of themselves, where they don't feel run ragged.(15:42) I cared so deeply about them. (15:45) And I cared so deeply about my patients and I cared so deeply about my babies and about my parents and about my friends. (15:52) And we're still going to make mistakes.(15:56) It's going to happen. (15:58) Even in this work that I do right now, I care so deeply about you and I still make a huge number of mistakes. (16:07) But here is the secret.(16:11) Loving yourself through them. (16:14) That is everything. (16:16) That is everything.(16:19) When you can pick yourself up and say, oh, babe, I love you. (16:25) I love you. (16:26) I love you even though you made that mistake.(16:29) I love you because you made that mistake, because you're human and I love you no matter what. (16:37) That little shift changes energetically how you feel. (16:42) And I say this at the end of every podcast and I want to explain it again.(16:45) When you feel good, you do good. (16:49) Meaning in that moment when I caught myself, I was like, oh my gosh, I am sitting on Instagram for 25 minutes. (16:57) I got up early for this shit.(16:59) I can say that word. (17:00) It's my podcast. (17:01) I got up early to sit on Instagram.(17:04) This is a joke. (17:06) I caught myself getting angry at myself. (17:10) Now, getting angry is actually great.(17:13) Anger, by the way, is a phenomenal, phenomenal emotion that we avoid way too much as women dentists. (17:20) And I don't mean getting angry at people. (17:22) I mean, we don't allow ourselves to feel anger.(17:25) This is not the topic for this conversation right now. (17:28) In that moment, I witnessed myself getting angry at me, beating myself up, shaming myself. (17:37) And that is what I've learned is the greatest toxicity.(17:40) In that moment, I caught myself and I said, whoa, babe. (17:45) It wasn't the Instagram scrolling, although that's so toxic for you, yes, especially first thing in the morning. (17:50) It was the shaming that was as a result of it.(17:55) That was the real poison. (17:58) I caught myself and I said, whoa, babe. (18:01) Sweetheart, I actually love you.(18:05) Oh, babe, I get it. (18:08) I get it. (18:09) There is so much infiltration out there.(18:14) This phone, these apps were designed to hook you. (18:19) You were just hooked. (18:21) This is not your fault.(18:23) And guess what? (18:24) I love you. (18:25) And you know what's going to make you feel better if we go for a run?(18:28) Let's go. (18:29) Put it down. (18:29) And I love you.(18:30) I love you. (18:31) You did nothing wrong. (18:32) It's okay.(18:33) You're human. (18:34) You got hooked. (18:37) All right, my friends, I am interrupting your episode to bring to you some extremely exciting news because at the Business of Happiness, we are doing something we have never done before because we know that you are doing such amazing things every single day.(18:55) We know you are literally putting smiles on children's faces on a daily basis. (19:00) And you have spent so many years giving and taking care of and serving and holding space for everyone else, not just your patients, but your team and your family. (19:12) And it is exhausting.(19:13) And it is time to come back to what is true to you. (19:20) And that is why we are offering the True2Me method. (19:25) We've never done this before.(19:27) And this is the core, the foundational method, the framework that is at the core of everything we offer is the True2Me method. (19:38) And we're putting it in a beautiful little package, a self-led course for you, a mini four-step course that you can listen to on the way to work. (19:48) It is going to change the way you see yourself.(19:53) It is going to put you back in touch with what is true to you because what I know is up until this point, what we've been taught in dentistry is to outsource our choices and our decisions to the expectations of everyone around us. (20:10) What do my patients need? (20:12) What does my accountant say I need to do?(20:14) What does my family think? (20:16) What do my colleagues expect of me? (20:18) And this four-step method brings you back to you.(20:23) This is the core of finding fulfillment and freedom and satisfaction and enjoyment and living your life to the fullest. (20:33) So check out True2MeMethod.com. (20:37) Easy to remember, True2MeMethod.com.(20:40) And use the code POD10, P-O-D 10, to get a 10% discount as a podcast listener. (20:48) Let me tell you, this is amazing. (20:51) We have already put in enormous savings.(20:53) It's usually $9.97. We're bringing it down to $4.97. And with the POD 10% savings, you get another 10% off. (21:01) This is a no-brainer. (21:03) There are CE credits.(21:04) There's community. (21:05) There's a downloadable companion guide. (21:08) There are monthly check-ins.(21:10) This is amazing. (21:11) You cannot afford to miss it. (21:13) Check out the True2MeMethod.com and use the code POD10. (21:18) I am sending you so much love. (21:20) You deserve to remember what is true for you. (21:24) Now, back to the episode.(21:28) And this is where I want you to recognize, guys, we never had a chance. (21:35) We never had a chance. (21:40) When you were little and you were exposed to the world, you loved yourself.(21:47) And what started to happen was all the infiltration, the opinions of others that were all fear-based, because they were infiltrated, the opinions of others that made you shame yourself. (22:04) And you got that same story over and over and over and over again, from home, from the parents who loved you, loved you, from your siblings, from your friends, from your church, from your school, from dental school, from social media, shaming, shaming, shaming, and you got hooked. (22:25) But it was never the truth.(22:30) You are worthy and you are enough. (22:37) Please hear my voice. (22:39) Allow it to be louder than all the others.(22:43) You are enough. (22:47) You are amazing. (22:51) That is the truth of who you are.(22:54) And it doesn't matter how loud I say it. (22:57) It doesn't. (22:58) It matters whether or not you say it to yourself.(23:05) That is everything. (23:08) And yes, I need your nervous system to feel safe in order to let that land. (23:13) Yes, if you're in fight or flight, that is going to feel weird and so strange, and you're going to go, Tarryn, that's weird, and I'm not even listening to you.(23:20) And yes, there's language that we can talk about, and we can talk about how your mind works and mindset mastery and the limiting beliefs you have from your childhood and healing those wounds. (23:31) All of that is important. (23:33) Yes, yes, a thousand times yes, please take my courses and learn how to heal those wounds.(23:39) And it all comes down to this one thing. (23:44) Every single day, and I mean it, rescuing yourself from self-shaming, no matter what. (23:55) That board complaint gets written against you.(24:00) That, those legal papers you get served with. (24:05) Your kid fails out of high school. (24:09) I mean big, scary things happen.(24:14) Your mother passes before you get a chance to say I love you. (24:21) There is nothing, nothing you can do. (24:24) In this world that makes you less than worthy of love, nothing.(24:32) And I know your mind right now is reeling and saying, oh, but Tarryn, if I did this, if I did this, if I did this. (24:38) All of it is rescued when you choose to love yourself. (24:45) All of it.(24:47) All of it. (24:49) And it's all predicated on that moment of noticing. (24:53) And I promise you it will shift everything.(24:59) Does this take practice? (25:00) Yes. (25:01) Because probably for the past 40 years or 20 years, however old you are, you've been repeating the shaming behavior and telling yourself how awful you are.(25:11) And for that many years you've been finding evidence of it in the world around you. (25:15) And believe me, there are so many people making money on you believing that, that you're not good enough. (25:22) The reason I doll myself up for this podcast every single time, telling me that the way I show up without makeup is not good enough.(25:31) And that is why I'm doing it for you right now. (25:34) And so please, if you didn't know how to YouTube channel, go ahead, check it out, because I look cray-cray. (25:39) And it's the point.(25:41) This is the point. (25:43) Because this is how important this is. (25:47) When you feel good, you can do good.(25:49) And that means when you love yourself and you feel good about yourself, you show up in powerful ways. (25:59) Not only do you do good for yourself, but you show up that way for everyone else. (26:04) That is what matters.(26:06) I just told you the whole reason I do this. (26:09) Guys, I sold my practice in 2023. (26:12) I had a phenomenal career.(26:13) I have everything I need. (26:15) I have everything. (26:15) Literally, I am sitting in abundance here.(26:18) I am the luckiest human in the world. (26:19) I have everything, everything available to me. (26:23) Why?(26:23) Because of this work, by the way. (26:24) Did not feel this way beforehand. (26:27) I felt like I was constantly in a world of chaos.(26:32) Like everything was happening to me. (26:33) Like no one couldn't find good help anymore. (26:35) All the things.(26:36) I thought all those things. (26:37) I believed them all. (26:39) And guys, I'm sitting here in so much abundance.(26:42) I choose to do this work because this message is so important. (26:48) Loving yourself. (26:49) It's that simple.(26:51) It's that simple, but it's not easy when you've been shaming and hating yourself for so long. (26:59) And if this, my love, is bringing you to tears, cry, babe. (27:04) Because that's one of the secrets, by the way, that I teach.(27:08) These incredible things in your face that not only see things and allow you to enjoy the beauty of life and the glint in your daughter's eyes and the sunset and your puppy. (27:22) They're so incredible. (27:24) I'm so grateful for sight.(27:26) But they also allow you to cry. (27:28) And that is so important. (27:31) Because processing emotion is another thing we don't allow ourselves to do as women dentists.(27:36) We hold it all together. (27:39) We think that's a sign of virtue or what's keeping us safe. (27:46) And so if this episode you're like, oh, my God, I have not been loving myself for 40 years.(27:54) Let yourself cry. (27:56) You're not going to be sad forever, I promise. (27:57) Those tears are important.(27:59) I call it holy water. (28:01) Those tears are valuable. (28:03) They are processing emotion.(28:04) Emotion is energy in motion. (28:08) Let that energy fully dissipate. (28:10) Because what's causing the self-shaming behavior is probably stuffing down emotions you don't want to feel.(28:19) So give yourself that permission. (28:21) And then hold yourself like you would a baby, like a puppy who's wounded and hurt and sad and lonely and scared. (28:32) And hold her and say, I love you.(28:37) You are absolutely worthy. (28:39) I don't care that you just scrolled on Instagram for 25 minutes. (28:42) I don't care that you missed that lesion on that radiograph.(28:46) I love you. (28:48) You are doing great. (28:50) And, you know, what's so interesting is our mind goes to, wait, isn't that rewarding the behavior?(28:55) Like if I don't, I'm not going to learn from it. (28:57) Oh, yes, you are. (28:58) Trust me, you are going to learn from that behavior.(29:02) We do ourselves a disservice. (29:05) That's just a story you've been told. (29:07) That is just a belief that we've had for a long time that I need to, like, teach myself a lesson.(29:13) I need to make an example of myself to myself. (29:16) Crazy talk. (29:18) All that does is put you in greater fight or flight, hate yourself more, and guess what?(29:24) It shows in the way you feel and in your behavior. (29:27) So there is nothing bigger than this in this whole episode. (29:32) There is no bigger message for you to get.(29:36) And it takes practice. (29:39) So what does that look like? (29:40) That looks like catching yourself in those moments and then stopping and loving yourself.(29:44) And even if it feels weird because, listen, when we try new things, it feels uncomfortable. (29:50) We know this. (29:52) So let it be uncomfortable the first 7,000 times you say I love you.(29:56) Every time you walk past the mirror and you notice yourself shaming yourself, stop and go, Oh, my God, let me pause for a moment. (30:03) This beautiful face has lived on this earth for 49 years. (30:09) I'm speaking to myself.(30:10) Of course I have wrinkles. (30:13) Of course, look, I run outside. (30:15) Even if I put sunscreen on, I get a little.(30:17) Of course I have some sagging. (30:20) Of course I have more fat on. (30:23) Guess what, babe?(30:24) I love you. (30:26) I love you. (30:28) And love you exactly the way you are.(30:31) Of course that's going to feel weird at first. (30:33) But start doing it. (30:35) And then keep doing it.(30:36) Because when you feel good, you can do good in every sense of the word. (30:40) And it starts that small. (30:43) So that's it.(30:46) Literally, this is what I couldn't wait to shower to tell you. (30:50) Because that's how strong I feel about this this morning. (30:53) And by the way, this is what else I've just been learning about myself and in this business.(30:58) Because trust me, it's been a whole learning experience to go from running a dental practice to coaching is a whole different world. (31:06) Let me just tell you. (31:07) And if any of you are interested in it, I'd be so happy to sit and chat with you about it.(31:10) But a lesson I learned in dentistry, in business, I can't believe I had to relearn it again in coaching. (31:21) Is when I am more and more authentically myself, the better it feels in my body. (31:32) And the more successful my business is.(31:35) That is so true in dentistry. (31:37) I mean, for real. (31:39) When I shifted from straightening teeth and wanting to be the best tooth straightener that ever was to empowering people.(31:49) I mean, literally using my ortho to empower teenagers to feel great about themselves. (31:55) Everything changed. (31:57) Everything changed.(31:59) It was crazy. (32:01) All I was doing was being more authentic to me. (32:04) I mean, that's who I am.(32:05) That's why this is my jam. (32:07) Because I love to show other people how great they are. (32:12) I love to guide them to see it for themselves.(32:15) Not just me telling you. (32:16) I can tell you anything I want. (32:17) You won't believe it.(32:18) It won't land. (32:19) One of my favorite quotes from Eleanor Roosevelt. (32:22) No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.(32:25) And my favorite quote from Taron McCarthy is, no one can make you feel anything without your consent. (32:31) So what I love to do is help you consent to see how great you really are. (32:38) Because when you do, the people around you benefit.(32:42) The world around you benefits. (32:44) This is how we change the world for the better. (32:47) One freaking smile at a time.(32:50) That's it. (32:50) That was by the way my mission statement in my ortho practice. (32:55) Changing our community one smile at a time.(32:58) Literally what I'm doing right now. (33:00) The purpose of what I do right now. (33:02) Because I know when you're smiling, and I mean energetically, we are literally changing the world.(33:09) We have enough bad stuff happening out there, guys. (33:13) We have enough. (33:15) Choosing to love yourself is heroic.(33:18) It is a radical act of defiance in a world that wants you to feel less than. (33:25) And you are so capable. (33:27) All right.(33:28) I love you. (33:29) Have a phenomenal day. (33:31) Remember, when you feel good, you can do good.(33:34) I'll catch you at the next episode. (33:37) Thank you for listening to the Business of Happiness podcast.
