Conversation About Depression - 4x4x48 challenge

Zachary Anderson

In this episode, I talked with one of my best friends, Justin (Jup) Mitchell, about depression in the recent aftermath of losing his dad to this terrible disease. Jup's dad was an amazing man, well known in the community of our small hometown of Vernon, BC, Canada. He was the managing editor for the local newspaper for decades and was loved by many. I remember he was always so interested in chatting and hearing about what's new in my life every time I visited Jup's place when we were younger.

This conversation came about after I had already decided to embark on a mental and physical challenge created by David Goggins, known as the 4x4x48 (run 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours).  After having a deep conversation with Jup I decided I wanted to do the challenge in memory of his Father, and use it to bring awareness to depression, as well as inspire people to step out of their comfort zone to grow. The charity we chose is called #SickNotWeak, which is dedicating its resources to changes people's conceptions about depression, and reinforcing this important fact that this is a terrible illness and not evidence of weakness.

We had a powerful conversation about all of this, and what Jup has learned about depression after being one of his dad's primary caretakers as he battled this disease for years.

If you are in a position to help out here is the link to the charity we chose. Thank you for listening!
