Show Notes

Melanie welcomes Officer David Gomez, a School Resource Officer (SRO) and sworn Deputy of the Boise County Sheriff’s Department. Officer Gomez is the SRO for Idaho City High School, Middle School, and Elementary School. He also has an active and highly informative Facebook Page that he uses to educate parents on the dangers of Social Media and the internet.

Melanie and Officer Gomez delve deep into the many reasons and factors to consider when you make the decision to give your kid a smartphone. From social conformity to acknowledging and honoring your parental intuition to three of the biggest dangers of providing your kid a smartphone and allowing access to Social Media, this episode is overflowing with so much to consider when you ask yourself what your values are when raising your kids. They also explore the negative effects of porn on our children’s well-being and how it affects their future relationships, and they discuss the “Age of 13 Rule” and the misconceptions surrounding this assumption. Lastly, Officer Gomez points out the challenges the schools and the educational system are creating by the use of technology in the classroom and how our current pandemic has influenced and amplified these changes.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, this episode is not to be missed!
