00:12
Hi,i
00:13
Welcome back to Beyond Common Business
00:16
Secrets.
00:17
I am so
00:19
grateful that you're here today. We have
00:23
such a special episode for you.
00:26
It is all about
00:28
How to
00:29
Shine Your Light Into The World
00:33
and
00:34
How to Overcome
00:37
Things That Hold Us Back.
00:40
So how can we
00:44
as women in business
00:46
continue on our personal journey
00:50
to overcome
00:51
self-doubt,
00:53
to overcome self-sabotage and any
00:56
insecurities that pop up along the way?
01:00
I don't know if you have ever had
01:03
anything like this happens in your life.
01:06
But i know
01:08
I have been somebody that has struggled
01:11
with
01:12
Impostor Syndrome,
01:14
with feelings of self-doubt,
01:17
feeling less than or like I was
01:20
unworthy of love
01:23
and
01:24
unworthy of success for so many years.
01:28
It wasn't until
01:30
I started surrounding myself
01:32
with people
01:34
that had
01:36
the
01:36
positive attitude and sort of that
01:38
can-do spirit that I really started to
01:41
see that
01:43
you
01:44
really could manifest things into being.
01:48
If you
01:49
surround yourself with people that are
01:52
always doom and gloom, and tell you
01:54
everything that's going to go wrong in
01:55
the world,
01:56
you know what?
01:58
They love to be right and they generally
02:01
are.
02:02
So today we're going to dive in to
02:05
how
02:06
when even when the odds are stacked
02:09
against you,
02:10
and you feel like
02:12
nothing's going your way,
02:14
how you can dig deep and
02:18
just
02:19
do it
02:20
anyway. I know this is funny but this
02:23
actually is the week that
02:25
my new book,
02:27
Women Who Shine, which is a collaborative
02:30
book that I co-authored with 30 other
02:34
women,
02:35
and it
02:36
launches this week so we're so excited
02:38
about it. But it is a timeless classic
02:42
book.
02:43
So even if you are hearing this podcast
02:46
episode much later,
02:49
This is still
02:50
worthy of your time and attention
02:53
because
02:54
this story that I want to share with you is a
02:57
lot about my personal struggles with
03:01
overcoming self doubt,
03:03
self-sabotage and just insecurities from
03:05
when I was young.
03:07
and
03:08
I have always had this dream in my heart
03:12
of being a
03:14
published author.
03:16
However, I was not the best at grammar. I
03:20
don't know if you guys have heard me
03:21
talk about this before, but I was
03:25
diagnosed with dyslexia, which was
03:28
Unpopular, and uncommon, like it was just
03:31
something you didn't talk about, you just
03:33
sweep it under the rug.
03:34
So it was just kind of try harder
03:37
was what people told you,
03:40
and it's a challenge it makes it hard to
03:43
read and enough challenges and fighting
03:46
against that made me kind of crawl into
03:49
my shell, just like a turtle for a long time,
03:51
and not
03:52
really ever believe that I could realize
03:55
the dream of having a book published.
03:58
So the first time I got to accomplish
04:01
this was last year, when Beyond Common 12
04:04
Essentials for Success in the Workplace
04:05
came out.
04:06
And then when the opportunity came up
04:10
for the inspired impact book series, The
04:14
Women Who Shine Book,
04:16
I jumped at the chance because it was
04:18
such an opportunity
04:20
to go through the process and do it with
04:23
30 other amazing women, inspirational
04:26
Authors. And I just had to do it. I knew
04:30
there was a story in my heart.
04:32
Now, I always want to be a published
04:34
Author. I even found this
04:37
like a craft that I had made
04:41
back when I was a nine year old girl that
04:43
said, “Oh Tracey Watts is a published
04:45
author.”
04:46
And it's so funny that we discovered it not
04:48
that long ago at my mom's house. But she
04:50
hit it away. I think she's afraid I'm
04:51
Going to share it with the world or
04:52
something.
04:53
So hopefully, I can get it out of here.
04:55
Again mom, if you're listening I need
04:57
that
04:58
people want to see it.
04:59
But I had a story in my heart that
05:03
is a lot about going way back to when I
05:06
was a little girl
05:07
not realizing that some of the things I
05:10
didn't deal with that were traumatic in
05:12
childhood
05:13
showed up again and again for me in my
05:16
personal life, in my business life and
05:19
they
05:20
reared their ugly head as
05:22
insecurities and feelings of
05:25
Shame, unworthiness, and self-doubt.
05:28
So
05:29
working through all of that and handling
05:31
it though it's messy, though it hurts and
05:34
sometimes, this story is hard for me to
05:36
talk about,
05:37
but
05:38
I just believe with all my heart that if
05:42
I
05:44
know that
05:46
my story
05:47
in the book, “Women Who Shine”
05:50
it's called, The Light That Shines Bright.
05:52
If my story can help even just one
05:54
person who is struggling with any of
05:56
these insecurities, then i know it was
05:59
worth it for me
06:00
to step into the light,
06:02
share my story
06:04
knowing that yes, I have fallen down. Yes
06:08
I stumbled,
06:09
Yes it's not perfect, I get
06:12
bruised banged up but I don't die and I
06:15
keep getting up again and again.
06:18
Life is like that. Business is like that.
06:21
Parenting is like that.
06:25
Going to the gym lifting weights, being
06:28
on on a healthy diet,
06:30
doing what's right is like that. So we
06:34
face these types of challenges every day.
06:36
They are not easy but they are simple.
06:40
So women who shine is literally 30
06:43
inspiring stories of women shining light
06:46
into the world, and it is going to be
06:50
available on August 25th
06:54
2021.
06:55
For you to purchase this book,
06:58
makes an awesome gift for anyone on your
07:01
list. There's so many women out there
07:04
that I know
07:06
would love and enjoy these stories so
07:08
much because, as a female business owner
07:11
especially if you're in the salon or
07:14
creative space, we all need to know that
07:17
there are other people going through the
07:19
same challenges that we are. There are
07:21
other people
07:22
that have struggled with the same things
07:24
that you have, and you are not alone. You
07:27
are not alone. You are amazing. You can do
07:31
this and sometimes, reading other
07:33
people's stories of struggle
07:36
and things they've
07:38
had show up in their life as challenges
07:40
or obstacles actually define us and make
07:43
us bigger and better. I know this story is
07:46
kind of hard for my family sometimes to
07:48
hear, but I
07:50
love
07:51
everything about my entire journey.
07:55
Though I get choked up, it's still it has
07:57
made me who I am.
07:59
and I know there have been conversations
08:00
in the past, even with my mom where she's
08:03
like, “Oh,
08:04
I didn't realize and it's like that's,
08:07
Okay, I love you. You were doing the best
08:10
you could with everything that you were
08:12
given.
08:13
And I
08:15
know that, and and I can only
08:19
commit to
08:21
doing a little bit better when it comes
08:22
to raising my children. I can only commit
08:25
to
08:26
showing up in the world and sharing with
08:28
people that even when
08:31
you think
08:33
that everything's okay, you still might
08:36
need to hug your child a little bit more
08:40
if you are a family that has struggled
08:43
with divorce.
08:45
Because sometimes even though
08:48
we don't address these things we think
08:51
everyone's okay,
08:52
you never know
08:55
your child, your parent, your sister, your
08:58
Brother, you never know how someone else
09:00
is interpreting it.
09:02
You know
09:03
there could be five people going
09:05
through the exact same thing we've all
09:08
Experienced. This just more recently
09:10
with
09:12
everything, with a pandemic and the thing
09:13
Is, there's a bunch of different
09:15
people going through the facts of what
09:17
actually happened.
09:19
But the way we interpret it and how we
09:21
show up in the world,
09:23
and how
09:24
It affects us differently.
09:26
So that's what led me to being so
09:30
honored and so humbled to do the Women
09:32
Who Shine Book series because
09:34
I know that
09:36
not everyone
09:38
could figure out how to handle
09:41
struggles like divorce in your
09:43
family.
09:44
How when you're young and diagnosed with
09:46
an Autoimmune Disease, how do you handle this? And
09:49
then how do you take the road to
09:53
lead you to being able to help others
09:56
though this story is deeply personal to
09:59
me. It's not
10:01
uncommon, it's not extraordinarily
10:04
special, it is my personal journey of how
10:09
I have embraced the beauty industry and
10:12
always look at everything I do in life,
10:15
that it's my opportunity to serve and
10:18
really care for my clients.
10:20
So whether I was doing a haircut,
10:23
coaching another salon owner, coaching
10:27
salon professionals in any of my
10:30
Beyond Common Success Essentials Courses,
10:33
giving people the skills
10:35
to
10:37
earn a beyond common living,
10:39
rise up and find their voice, no matter
10:41
what i'm doing, you're finding the right
10:43
hair products so that you look and feel
10:45
amazing.
10:46
Giving you the signature cut and color
10:48
whatever it is,
10:50
I always apply
10:52
the same
10:53
principles and essentials to it.
10:56
And when we are really present
10:58
and show up as our whole authentic self,
11:02
I think everything is so beautiful and
11:04
it really
11:05
makes the biggest difference in the
11:08
world.
11:09
The more that I share my past struggles,
11:12
and challenges that
11:14
have happened, because this story
11:17
originally and I know I'm creating a
11:20
little bit of mystery because I want you
11:21
to get the book because you'll love it.
11:23
The thing is that, though this story
11:26
takes place at the beginning of when I
11:28
was very young,
11:29
it still
11:31
shows up at many other points in life
11:34
as i've made challenge changes and tried
11:36
to break through to a different
11:38
level. The thing is that when we are
11:42
given
11:43
opportunities to challenge ourselves to
11:46
break through the status quo,
11:48
to
11:50
jump ahead to what they call, “Our
11:54
Zone of Genius, to break through
11:57
so that you're not only
11:59
living and working in your zone
12:02
of excellence, that you actually get to
12:03
break through to your zone of genius.
12:05
When these opportunities present
12:07
themselves, a lot of those old patterns
12:10
of insecurity, self-doubt and imposter
12:13
will flood the gates again. Just even
12:17
publishing a book, starting a podcast,
12:20
starting a coaching business, when I
12:22
already had a really successful salon
12:23
Business, the thing people say to me all
12:26
the time is, why would you do that? You
12:28
were so successful!
12:30
Why would you want to do a start-up
12:32
right now?
12:33
and the thing is that,
12:35
I
12:36
know
12:37
in my heart of hearts
12:39
that I
12:40
have a bigger impact to make.
12:42
I had to get this story in front of more
12:45
people so that if they're struggling or
12:48
they know someone that is, that they can
12:51
share it and understand that I got you, I
12:54
see you,
12:55
and I am here to cheer you on because
12:57
girl, you can do this.
13:00
And we need to be here to support each
13:02
other and that's what's been so amazing
13:05
about The Women Who Shine
13:07
on Book Launch and doing it with so many
13:10
other women. It has been an amazing
13:12
Sisterhood. I've had so much fun and as I
13:16
had.
13:17
As I said, this is deeply personal to me
13:20
and I
13:22
have struggled through sharing this
13:24
story. And sometimes, I get choked up and
13:26
cry about it,
13:27
and other times, I
13:30
have tremendous joy and gratitude for
13:33
who I've become in the process of going
13:36
through this.
13:37
Who
13:38
I have been able to positively impact
13:40
because
13:42
I was able to share this story.
13:44
Setting an amazing example for my
13:47
children, they know it hasn't been hard. I
13:49
haven't sugar coated them. I
13:51
haven't isolated them from this. I
13:54
have
13:55
wholeheartedly authentically shared all
13:57
of the pain and struggle and let them
14:00
know that sometimes
14:02
things are not easy, and
14:05
those are the moments that define who we
14:08
are and help us
14:09
on our journey to becoming who we were
14:12
meant to be.
14:14
So my hope for this book is that, we are
14:18
able to get women who shine
14:22
into as many
14:24
people's hands as possible
14:27
so that,
14:28
we can inspire women
14:32
and encourage them to step into their
14:34
power
14:35
and truly shine bright
14:39
in into the light that they were meant
14:41
for.
14:42
So I strongly encourage you
14:45
To share the link, to get
14:48
your Women Who Shine Book
14:50
and
14:51
comment on the podcast. Let us know
14:54
what you think. I would love to hear more
14:57
about
14:58
what everyone thinks of the Women Who
15:01
Shine Book.
15:02
And I hope you really enjoy my story
15:06
which my personal story is light that
15:08
shines bright
15:09
i just really hope that this story
15:12
will just really inspire
15:15
people to never quit no matter what. Even
15:19
when it feels like the entire world is
15:21
stacked against you,
15:23
even if you just
15:24
get back up
15:26
bruised,
15:27
beaten down a little,
15:29
your hair a mess, whatever it
15:32
takes, if you can just make that one next
15:36
step,
15:37
it's going to take you on the road to
15:40
becoming the absolute best version of
15:42
yourself.
15:43
I
15:44
am so grateful that you're here and I
15:47
cannot wait to hear
15:49
all about what you think of
15:52
The Women Who Shine Book. Thank you so
15:55
much for being here and make sure you go
15:59
and get your copy today.
16:01
Thank you thank you so much from the
16:03
bottom of my heart. I cannot wait to
16:06
share this book with the entire world.
16:08
And I am so grateful that you guys are
16:11
the first to know about it.
16:13
So amazing. Thank you so much and I will
16:16
see you on the next one.
