Dr Zaahida Nabagereka from 'Harlette'

November 27, 2020 Nick Taylor Season 1 Episode 3
My Teenage Band
Dr Zaahida Nabagereka from 'Harlette'
Show Notes

This week Nick talks to Dr Zaahida Nabagereka,  lecturer and researcher in African Literature at SOAS university of London, and the co-founder of ‘Afrikult’, a literary organisation seeking to widen access to African literatures through interactive workshops at schools and festivals. Zaahida played bass in an all-female band called Harlette while she was growing up in Oxfordshire. We'll hear about how the band took the Oxford music scene by storm, recording EPs and playing festivals, before it all came crashing down in a particularly teenagery way. And listen out for a peak-noughties tune from Harlette themselves that celebrates romance and the social media site of choice c.2005-07.
