Speaker 1:

And welcome to technology tap. I'm Professor Jay Rod. In this episode let's talk about free and paid comp tier classes. Let's get into it. Welcome to technology tap. For those who don't know me, my name is Professor Jay Rod and I'm Professor of cybersecurity and I created this podcast about almost four years ago to talk all stuff about comp tier. So I'm very big into helping students pass their A plus network plus security, plus series of exams.

Speaker 1:

Alright, so this is gonna be a short one today, guys, because I have news. I have a couple of organizations contact me because of this podcast and tick tock. Right, I'm on tick tock now, guys, at Professor Jay Rod and hit the like button, for then I can go live and they all and they wanted me to kind of like announce it that they are doing classes. Now, some of them are free, some of them are not free. I'm gonna go over. I'm not gonna mention the, the school. You know you can email me at Professor Jay Rod, jr od, at gmailcom, and I can get more into detail, but there is one school that's offering a whole year of a cybersecurity course. That means you take a whole bunch of classes I think 123456, 1010 classes, but it's a whole year, whole calendar year. Now that could be free or pay, depending on your income, so that you got a. You know it all depends on your income, has nothing to do with me, all depends on your income. That's in New York City and that is not zoom, that's in person. You got to go in there in person.

Speaker 1:

I have another one, again in New York City, that it could be free, again depending on your, your financial status, if it's. But that one is zoom, that one could. That's zoom right. That one's done on totally online. So if you want you can go to that one. And then I have another one. I think this one doesn't start into May. It's paid and free, depend again depending on how much money you make. This one is in person, is and it's in Westchester County. So for my people up there, the Bronx area, westchester County, this one might be better for you than you know going down to the city, and that one does a plus, a plus.

Speaker 1:

They will do a class where it's a plus network plus, security, plus. The second one is just a plus. So the first one is a whole cybersecurity course for a year. The second one is just a plus nine weeks, six hours a week. And the third one is could be a plus network, plus security plus. I think it's 40 hours each one.

Speaker 1:

So if you are interested, please email me at professor J rod J R O D at gmailcom and in the subject put come to a class and in the body of the message tell me which one are you interested in. Are you interested in the full year cyber security program? Are you interested in the nine week a plus class? Are you interested in the trifecta right a plus? There were plus security plus. Also, if you can tell me, you know if you could pay or not pay right, I don't know how much. Again, I don't want to say how much it is on here. I think I know how much it is. I don't want to stay on here. Email me, I can tell you how much.

Speaker 1:

And it's taught by great instructors, you know, and it's all geared for you to. You know, get your, you know a couple of certificates, those certifications along the way and you can continue. You, you know your growth from there. There's a great opportunity. Guys, you know, the one issue that I have with free stuff is that people don't like to take advantage of it. They don't. I've had.

Speaker 1:

I've taught a lot of classes that were you know that they were for free. You know based on so, you know grant or something. You know somebody got a grand, decided, hey, I want to spend my money doing this. And they reach out to me they say, hey, can you teach this a plus class? Right, you know all these people. They're getting it for free. And what happens? They stop showing up. Right, they stop showing up because it's hard. These classes are not easy guys. So if your commitment level is not there, please don't email me.

Speaker 1:

Right, I only want serious people who are willing to put in the work. There's a lot of people out there who who want to change their career and want to change their life, but they don't want to take it serious. Right, this is work. Right, going just getting your a plus, it's work, it's a commitment. You have to be able you know you have to be able to put in the work, to put in the commitment. If you're not gonna do it, please don't email me. Right, if you're not gonna be able to take the time to do six hours a week Plus, read, right, cuz you know it's not just showing up to class. You got to do more, right. If you cannot do that for nine weeks, show that consistency for nine weeks. Please don't email me and remember the summer is coming right. And then you know, you know, I think we get a lot of schools, get a lot of enrollment. These type of schools get a lot of enrollment in January because people, you know, they New year, new me kind of thing, and then it kind of wanes, you know, towards the middle of the year. But you know, let's, let's do this, let's get you certified this year, let's make 2024 the year that you finally do it. Change your career, get a new job, get a job that makes more money, make your family proud, make yourself proud, elevate yourself, educate yourself right, because that's how we're gonna do it, by education and, and you know, learning our way.

Speaker 1:

I wish I had my come tears for free. You know, I had to take a boot camp, had to pay my own money to get a boot camp for a plus, and I took the boot camp four days, 10 am To 6 pm, monday through Thursday, and that Saturday I took both exams in past. So because I went home, you know, the class ended at 6. I got home by 7. Study to midnight. I did that. Monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday. That's 20 hours of studying right there, right, 40 hours a lecture, 20 hours of study. Friday I study at least 10 hours. So that's 30 hours of studying, 40 hours of 32, 32 hours of lecture, 40 hours of. Is that for 30 hours of study?

Speaker 1:

Got up Saturday morning, went to the, the first one For the, a plus. When got lunch. Came back to part two, you got a plus certified following week for network Network plus. Did the same thing to the class 10 to 6 Went home study five hours Right Friday. Study for 10 hours. Saturday took the exam past.

Speaker 1:

Was I mentally drained after that? Absolutely, but I Did what I had to do. That was my goal. Right, my goal was to do that. My goal was to get certified and I was able to do it. If I could do it, you can do it. You just gotta, you know, put away the PlayStation, playstation right. Put away the Netflix. Talk to your significant other, tell them listen. This is what I'm trying to do and you know I may not spend that much time with you these next couple of weeks because I'm I'm trying to handle my business, I'm trying to study. I Right, that's what we need to do. That's what you need to do.

Speaker 1:

It is so disheartening, so disheartening when you're teaching one of these classes that's grant based, that the student is taking it for free, and then you walk around the classroom and the student, like, one of them is playing YouTube. One of them is playing a game, like Because it's free right, it's free, they're doing and even paid courses. I've seen, you know, I used to work at Lincoln Tech and I've seen students. You know the parents are paying for this, or the parents got a loan for them to go to school and then you walk around and they are on YouTube, you know, trying to see how to the, you know how to get to the next level of whatever game that they're playing. Right, take these classes seriously. These are free classes, you know it, and they're high quality classes. They're not just BS classes, you know. It just burns me that students just like come one day or two days and they just want to goof off the rest of the time.

Speaker 1:

It's a takes a little commitment. You want to change your career? That takes commitment. You want to better yourself? That takes commitment. You have to Dig deep inside yourself and say, hey, I'm gonna change. This is what I want to do. I'm gonna you know, for the next nine weeks, or for the next four weeks, or for the next six weeks, I'm going to have this kind of mindset and I'm gonna do it Right, and that's, that's what you have to do, that's what we have to do. That's you know, it's it's only for ourselves that we're gonna get it.

Speaker 1:

Talk to anybody who's in IT. Right, they, these guys, study. This is not. They don't just wake up, roll out of bed and and, and you know, they know all this stuff. They have to study, you know. And there's people that live, breathe this stuff.

Speaker 1:

I had a student once that he took the CEH certified, the hacker course with me, and I told him because he, he lives in briefs computer, you could see it, he's a nerd. And I told him the. The exam is four hours. If you finish fast, just hang out for, like, until you get like the two and a half hour, three hour mark. Right, just go over the now, don't go over the questions, but just like, move the mouse every now and then drift off into space somewhere, because if you finish too early they're gonna flag you. Finish an hour and a half, of course they flag them. They wouldn't give me a certificate. You know they. They claim that. You know how.

Speaker 1:

You know he doesn't have anything in his background. He didn't graduate you know what a college degree. He doesn't work in IT, he was just starting. He just wanted to get certification to get a job. So they made him take another sir. I think they made him take comp to your security plus. Once he got that, they gave him the CH.

Speaker 1:

But you look at this guy, he lives computers. He lives computers. And that's what you have to do. You have to immerse yourself in the topic For the time that you're studying. If not, you never gonna. It's never gonna happen for you, no matter how much you you want, because it it cannot weigh the desire you have. So you have to keep whatever it is as motivating you To go into that class, to set up in that class. That has to motivate you Throughout all those weeks that you're there, right, so when you're low you think about why you there and that will kick you right, kick you in the butt. I make you stay and straight out and you know, achieve your goal.

Speaker 1:

I had one class that was free. I had 20 started with 22 people. At the end, it ended with eight, 14 people dropped out. They just, you know various reasons. You know Some people have real problem, social, emotional needs. Other people are just lazy, they don't want to do it. I need too much, too much of a commitment. Don't be like that. All right, again, email me, professor J rod.

Speaker 1:

Jrod had gmailcom, put on the subject line come to your class and then put on the message which one you are interested in either the one-year cyber security, the nine week class, a older, I think 40 weeks of Of 40, is it 40 hours of a plus? Never plus security plus. So email me, looking forward to reading your emails. And, yeah, then hopefully, you know you decide to take these classes and you know we make that change. Let's make 2020 for the year that we finally get a cop to you. Yeah, uh, certifications, because that's what we want, right, guys? This is gonna be the year. I feel it. I feel it. Guys, this is gonna be the year that you, that you finally do it and you finally get your your a plus network plus, security plus, or whatever it is that you want to take. All right, so looking forward to reading your emails.
