Lee Kaiser (00:19):
I'm here with Mark Reams today, account manager for ORR Protection out of Atlanta, Georgia, and, you know, serving the Southeast region for us and Mark, you know, welcome to the company. I know you're fairly new. Tell me, uh, how you came into work, In fire protection?
Mark Reams (00:34):
I didn't come to necessarily fire protection specifically. I came to, ORR, uh, based on a friend, uh, who sought me out.
Lee Kaiser (00:43):
Mark Reams (00:44):
Uh, and what I learned about the organization, um, fire protection is a part of that. And it's what I've some, some done a little bit in the past, but I came to work for, ORR quite frankly.
Lee Kaiser (00:56):
Why did you choose to come to ORR? I mean, you had a personal recommendation. It sounds sounded like from your friend that worked here, but you know, it can be a big risk going into a new company. Tell me what made ORR attractive?.
Mark Reams (01:08):
To the stage of my life, where I wanted to simplify my life and more narrowly focus, what I was doing moving forward. Um, I was also looking for a, um, more family-friendly, uh, smaller company to work for. I've worked for large, large companies in the past. I'm looking for that family atmosphere for a company that believes in ownership, culture, uh, and people that come to work believing in ownership, culture, um, who want, and everybody seems to be wanna to make you successful and they want to be successful. And then there's a great appears to be a great balance of work life. Uh, and, uh, of course, uh, uh, Tuesday, Tuesday morning, our guest speaker, uh, the pastor Dave, that sort of set the tone for, to reinforce that I made a great decision.
Lee Kaiser (02:03):
Well, the, or family has intentionally went out of their way to build a culture that is family-friendly and reinforces community inside with our co-you know, our coworkers. And I'm glad that you've seen that so early in the company.
Mark Reams (02:17):
Good. That's good. I'm glad.
Lee Kaiser (02:18):
So as you've onboarded, um, uh, w what are you seeing as you're just getting started with the company?
Mark Reams (02:25):
Well, um, it's been drinking from a fire hose, uh, as, as I mentioned, I have a very broad technical background and many different roles and responsibilities through the years. Um, this is a very technical, uh, um, uh, role, uh, found out to be, uh, and I'm excited about the challenge, but I believe, um, you know, my skill sets will help me, um, um, navigate that minefield. And quite frankly, uh, Lee, I've been inundated with offers for helping support. And let me teach you this, let me show you this. So feel very comfortable that, uh, I'm going to be able to be successful here with, with, with help.
Lee Kaiser (03:03):
For support. Have you been able to perceive yet, are those all people locally that work around you in Atlanta, or are you getting offers from other places in the country?
Mark Reams (03:13):
It's been, uh, this other sales execs account managers in my, uh, in my region. It's been people on the West coast. It's been everybody across the country on sales and operations. Uh, Steve Nelson, our, um, our operations manager out of Atlanta and the Southeast he's, every time I speak with him, we're, we're planning to go see a customer. He, he tells me how, how successful he wants to make me and how much he can help me. And I keep, and I'm taking advantage of it. So the offers are coming from all over the place, Mat McTyre on the sprinkler side. Um, he seems to not be able to do enough for me. I mean, I'm great. And he does that for all the salespeople, but they're really interested in helping me mature in the role, So to speak, from a technical perspective, I feel comfortable with the relationship and the customer engagement, uh, the strategy, but the technical side of it. I definitely need some work and I've been getting some great offers.
Lee Kaiser (04:08):
One of the best things about working here, I feel is getting work with people from across the country and getting that collective knowledge base of different experiences, different, uh, projects and applications that everyone's seen. So, you know, you've landed in a great spot and, uh, I, you know, I know you're going to do great. What do you think some of the benefits of working for ORR Protection is?
Mark Reams (04:33):
I mentioned earlier, I wanted to simplify my life. And, uh, now the role is not as simple as I, as I had expected. The that's bad thing to say, but, um, uh, I think that this role in this company and the organization and the people I work with will bring quite frankly, will impact my family life positively. I didn't come here thinking I didn't have to work hard, or many hours, right. But with the support I'm getting, uh, in the, in the people that are here offering that support, it'll help me balance my work in life. So I can be more productive, more efficient while I'm here and then go home and be able to hug my wife and give her a kiss.
Lee Kaiser (05:15):
Okay. So our spouses are important to us as your wife noticed a difference in your attitude now that you started?
Mark Reams (05:22):
I think a little bit, uh, uh, she will expect more, but I think drinking from the fire hose from the technical side is got me a little, uh, a little intense, however, she has noticed a difference already, So it's been.
Lee Kaiser (05:36):
Wow. No guarantees on the learning, uh, and, and learning slowing down. We like to throw a lot at people and get them, uh, up to speed, you know, as fast as we can, but yet you'll, I'm sure you'll have a chance to, um, uh, tackle one thing at a time. So with that, you know, what's your plan to tackle one thing at a time we'll learn one thing and then move on to the next.
Mark Reams (06:01):
So I'm really, it's the opportunities that are presenting themselves. So how, uh, um, for instance, um, a HubSpot lead came in for Kinder Morgan. Um, so I'm diving into that, uh, learning all the nuances and the intricacies of this, uh, application of, uh, gas, suppression, um, trying to talking with DAO and other technical resources, uh, about not just that, but what more can I learn about the FM 200 system? Right. Okay. Um, and then taking that expanding as much as possible, then taking the next opportunity, um, uh, for Clean Air America. And, uh, we're going to go out Monday to that side. I'll get with Steve Nelson and, uh, we'll investigate that. I'll expand on that. So, you know, it's so, so much stuff, Lee, that I'm going to just up, I'm going to take a bite, uh, chew on it and then go to the next bite and chew into, the next bite and chew, uh, eventually I'll get it all or I might retire.
Lee Kaiser (06:57):
Or you might retire. Yeah. So now I know you're an electrical engineer by training through college engineers are kind of known for their problem-solving skills. How do you think you're going to apply that to this new situation where you've got to learn so many new, uh, products and applications?
Mark Reams (07:14):
So I understand controls, inputs and outputs and actions and reactions. So now it's just really critical upon me to, what are we engaging? What are we controlling? What are we measuring? And then learning on how to, how to, um, how to look at a room and instead of looking for a room-temperature sensor, or the ductwork, or the diffusers and airflow looking at the sprinkler heads, looking at the fire alarm devices and things like that. So I think the core is there from my background. It's just a matter of applying the new, new tools, the new types of systems, and I'll be working on.
Lee Kaiser (07:51):
