In this episode of Torpedo Swimtalk Podcast we chat to vibrant triple Olympic swimmer  - Englishman James Hickman

James represented the UK at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics; won the World Short Course 200m butterfly title 5 times and held the 100m and 200m Short Course World Record during that period.  He has some great tales to tell from that time.
With all these wonderful swimming accolades behind him, he settled down to a career in marketing and trotted around the globe for Speedo, finally landing in Sydney 6 years ago with his young family.

In this harbour side city, he re-ignited his love of swimming by finding his "people" at a local Sydney pool and discovered a new passion in open water swimming as well. Now he finds himself a FINA Masters Swimming WR holder with his mates in a 4x50m relay and regularly racing in the pool and ocean when he can fit it all into his schedule.

We chatted about his current training schedule - What he does, how often and what type of training he undertakes.  James explained what he has learnt and is still learning in the open water. We talk about the way he used to train - "You have to make training harder than the race" and how this mantra fires him up now to challenge himself in the water.

The biggest takeaway from our chat was his passion and connection to the water and that is something all lovers of swimming will recognise.
