SPEAKER_00So what was the lesson about this week, Pastor Jim? Well, Roscoe, the lesson this week was about believing. Well, I believe in Santa Claus. Well, no, Roscoe, not the Easter bunny. Roscoe, you're very confused. Pizza for dinner is really good. Roscoe, the lesson this week is about believing without seeing. Oh yeah. I believe that you would get all upset without even seeing it first. Oh, Roscoe. We'll be right back, kids. And parents. We'll be right back, kids and parents.
SPEAKER_05Hey kids! Let's talk.
SPEAKER_01Alright, I'm here in the studio with some young people. Some mighty handsome and beautiful young people. And I'm gonna ask them their name. I'm Pastor Jim, and I am not in a grade. I'm way too old for grades anymore. And my favorite color is orange. So I'm gonna ask these young people what their how what grade they're in, what their name is, and what their favorite color is, and tell me why. Tell me why your favorite. Oh, and I forgot to tell you why. So one time my dad and I build a soapbox derby car, and we went to the paint store and we said, I said, Dad said, So what's your favorite color, Jimmy? And I said, It's red. And so we looked on the shelf and there was a can that said Mustang Red. And I was like, Oh, let's see what that color is. And so they mixed it all up and we put it on the car, and it was orange. And that's why that's when my favorite color turned to orange instead of red. I was like, I love this color, it's so awesome. Alright, who's this over here right across from me? Mateo. Mateo! How old are you?
SPEAKER_06Six.
SPEAKER_01What grade are you in? First. First grade. And what's your favorite color?
SPEAKER_06Gold.
SPEAKER_01Gold! Like the coin gold? Like do you like coins and gold and money and stuff? Or you just like the color gold? And tell me why you like gold.
SPEAKER_06What's gold that's shiny?
SPEAKER_01It's shiny. I like that answer. Okay, who's this next to him?
SPEAKER_06Lucas.
SPEAKER_01Okay, you gotta get really close to the microphone. Thanks. So uh Lucas, say it again.
SPEAKER_06Lucas.
SPEAKER_01And how what grade are you in?
SPEAKER_06Fourth.
SPEAKER_01Fourth grade? And what's your favorite color?
SPEAKER_06Black.
unknownBlack?
SPEAKER_01So tell me why.
SPEAKER_06Because it's the color of one of my jerseys.
SPEAKER_01Oh. Is it a soccer jersey?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah? What what what number are you?
SPEAKER_06Um eleven.
SPEAKER_01Number eleven?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Isn't that like a famous guy's number?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Who's who's the famous guy?
SPEAKER_06Maiko Gonzalez.
SPEAKER_01Ah, I love it. I love it. Nice. And who's this over here to my left?
SPEAKER_06Sophia.
SPEAKER_01Sophia. And what grade are you in?
SPEAKER_06Fourth.
SPEAKER_01Fourth grade. And what's your favorite color?
SPEAKER_06Purple.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's my second favorite color. And tell me why it's purp why purple is your favorite color.
SPEAKER_06Because that's just who I am.
SPEAKER_01Somebody asked me what my third favorite color is. Somebody asked me.
SPEAKER_06Is it green?
SPEAKER_01No, somebody asked me, say, what is your favorite? What's your third favorite color?
SPEAKER_06What's your third favorite color?
SPEAKER_01The rest of them. I like orange and purple in that order, and then the rest of them. So not equally.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I like gold, I like black, and I like purple. Alright, so we are going to do a story. And you guys know the theme. We have to play our air guitars. So I'm gonna push this button and it's gonna play the theme.
SPEAKER_00Play your air guitars.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, that was too high for me today. So when I say Jesus, we're going to sing.
SPEAKER_02You know you make me want to shop! Kick my hands up the shop!
SPEAKER_01Do you guys know that one?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think you would do that in kids' church. When I say the word happy, we're going to sing That's the way.
SPEAKER_04Uh-huh. I like it. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_01And finally, when I say the word believe, everybody say believe.
SPEAKER_04Believe.
SPEAKER_01We are going to sing this.
SPEAKER_04I'm a believer.
SPEAKER_01Believer.
SPEAKER_03I'm a believer.
SPEAKER_01Nice. In the book of John, everybody say John.
SPEAKER_03John.
SPEAKER_01We read a story about Jesus.
SPEAKER_00You know you make me wanna shop! Take my heels up and shop.
SPEAKER_01Nice. He had died and risen from the dead and appeared to a lot of people. And everyone who saw him was extremely excited and happy.
SPEAKER_00Well, one day, Jesus.
SPEAKER_01You know, you made me want to shop, kick my hands up and shop, appeared to most of his disciples in a house. Everybody say a house.
SPEAKER_06A house.
SPEAKER_01But there was one disciple that was not there. His name was Thomas. Oh, I have a sound effect for that. He was sad. He did not believe that Jesus.
SPEAKER_00You know you make me wanna shout, get my heels up, shout. You guys are singing. Why aren't you singing? Beautiful voice. Oh, thank you so much, Sophia.
SPEAKER_01That Jesus had appeared to the other people in order to believe.
SPEAKER_03Now I'm a believer.
SPEAKER_01He said, I need to see it for myself. Now this is Thomas. Everybody say Thomas.
SPEAKER_06Thomas.
SPEAKER_01Thomas was saying this. I need to see it for myself. And about a week later, Thomas got his wish.
SPEAKER_02Jesus! You know you make me want to shop, take my heels up and shop!
SPEAKER_01Nice. I love it. Uh and then we forgot, I lost my place. And then, oh, showed up again. And then Jesus. You know you made me want to shop.
SPEAKER_02Take my heels up and shop.
SPEAKER_01Showed up again. And then Thomas, what did he do?
SPEAKER_06He saw him. He believed.
SPEAKER_03I'm a believer.
SPEAKER_01For himself. But Jesus said to Thomas, Thomas, you believe.
SPEAKER_03I'm a believer.
SPEAKER_01Because you have seen me. Those who believe without seeing me will be the ones who are really happy. I have a question for you three. Do you believe? Well, well, well, yes, all right. I do too. And that's why I am pretty much always happy. And we have a scripture this week from John 2029.
SPEAKER_03It says, believe without seeing the end.
SPEAKER_01Play the theme again. Pastor Jim. And we all stop. Hey, I heard somebody that time. Nice. I think that was Mateo. Nice voice, Mateo. Alright, so what is something that we all believe in that you haven't seen? Can you name me something that you that you believe but you haven't seen? Anybody got anything? Yes, Sophia.
SPEAKER_06Aliens.
SPEAKER_01Aliens I haven't I haven't seen one, but a lot of people believe that there's aliens. Oh, oh, oh, Lucas.
SPEAKER_02My brain. Your brain!
SPEAKER_01Wait, you think it's there?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you you you believe it's there? You believe?
SPEAKER_03I'm a believer.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I believe you have a brain too. Uh Mateo, what do you believe in?
SPEAKER_06The earth.
SPEAKER_01The earth. No, some people say that the earth is flat.
SPEAKER_03It's around.
SPEAKER_01No, it's it's around. It's not flat. I I don't I don't believe.
SPEAKER_03I'm a believer.
SPEAKER_01So let me ask you this. Have you ever seen a million dollars?
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_01Wait, I I haven't.
SPEAKER_06I think I have in quarters because um Wow, that's a lot. There's a show that I watched um called Awake the Million Dollar Game. Oh, people stayed up for 24 hours counting quarters, and then they have to do challenges that people can't normally accomplish when they're that tired.
SPEAKER_01Yes. That is hard to do, count quarters when you're really, really tired. So I what's what's some what's something else that we believe in that we can't see? What's another thing that we believe? Yes, Mateo.
SPEAKER_02Jesus. Jesus!
SPEAKER_01That's a good answer. You know what? When we believe in Jesus, you know you make me want to show up and we then we don't without seeing him, because he's not right on the earth right now, we are really, really, really, really, really happy. And oh, so who else had their hand up? Who else? Lucas.
SPEAKER_06God.
SPEAKER_01God, yes, we believe in God. Sophia?
SPEAKER_06Ghosts.
SPEAKER_01Ghosts. Yes, there are a lot of people that believe in ghosts. There's a lot of people that believe in uh Bigfoot, even though they haven't seen them.
SPEAKER_05I believe in Bigfoot.
SPEAKER_01You believe in Bigfoot? My wife does too. So uh she she used to watch the show and she would get mad at me because I would always make these comments. Um yes, Mateo.
SPEAKER_06The Holy Spirit.
SPEAKER_01The Holy Spirit, that's a good one. I love that. So, what about the story about Thomas? What do you think about this story about Thomas? What do you think? Anybody got any ideas about what this was about all about, Sophia?
SPEAKER_06I think Thomas um didn't believe until he actually saw Jesus.
SPEAKER_01That's true. So there was a day when Jesus appeared to all the disciples except Thomas, and then when Thomas came home, they all said, Hey, we saw Jesus, and he's like, Yeah, right. If I'm gonna believe that, I have to see Jesus myself. And then when Jesus showed up in the room. So what do you think that was like when Jesus just showed up in a room? What do you think people did? Yes, Sophia.
SPEAKER_06I think they just got really excited and started worshiping him. I bet they did saying, You're alive!
SPEAKER_01Yes. So I don't know about you, but if I was in a room and then somebody just appeared out of nowhere, I didn't hear a door open, I might be a little freaked out. I might be like, Bah! Scared. What's that? And then uh and then once I saw it was Jesus, I'd be like, It's you. It's really you, you're alive. And then I would go over and yes, I would I would worship him. So um, do you think anything about this story helps or hurts this the uh the the story in the gospel about Thomas believing? So who believes that if you are in a story in the Bible that you really want to look like a good person? Do you really think I think that? Like you would really, yes, everybody has their hand up. When when you had a if you had a story and somebody was telling a story about you and it made you look bad, would you be like, wait, wait, no, that's not how how it happened. I and but then you would tell your side of the story. But Thomas didn't he didn't care that he looked bad. Like he was like, yeah, I didn't believe until I saw him for myself. Because I think that's that gives the Bible a little bit more credibility to me. Because Thomas didn't care if he looked bad, he was just happy that Jesus was alive. So I forgot to play I forgot to play the song. I believe. So um what do you think you would do if Jesus appeared in a room and didn't didn't come through the door? What do you think you would do? Sophia?
SPEAKER_06I think I would be like should you get in here?
SPEAKER_01Yes, Lucas!
SPEAKER_06I'd say hi.
SPEAKER_01You would say hi, yes, of course. Mateo, you got any idea what you would do? I think I would scream, but then I would be happy.
SPEAKER_04So uh uh I like it.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so you guys have any stories about um believing in something that you haven't that you didn't see but you believed it? Yes, Sophia.
SPEAKER_06Once I was like playing outside, um, um, and I thought it saw like a UFO. But it was just a plane.
SPEAKER_01Oh I'm kinda glad it was just a plane. Yes. So I have a story from uh for one when I was a kid, my my grandparents lived out in the far in the country and they had a little farm and they had apple trees. And these apples were uh kind of sour. But I liked I like the sour apple. You guys like sour apples at all?
SPEAKER_06Huh? Kind of yeah. I don't I don't think I've had everything like a like a green one. No.
SPEAKER_01So they're a little sour, but this one day I saw an apple. It looked really pretty on the on the uh outside. It was laying on the ground, so I didn't have to reach up to try to pick it or anything. And I picked up this apple, and I was just about to take a big bite out of it, and then I saw a little hole. Guess what it was? Yes, it was a worm. And I was just about I was like, oh! And then I and then I broke the apple apart with my hand, and there was the worm going, hi. Not really, he didn't wave his hands, he didn't have hands. But it was like, I'm glad I didn't bite that apple. Sometimes you have to think about what you're seeing. And like Thomas, he he didn't believe until he saw Jesus for himself. I I kind of get that. But Jesus said, if you believe without seeing me, then you'll be really what?
SPEAKER_04Happy. I like it. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_01All right, you guys are awesome, by the way. So I'm so glad you got to join me on the podcast today. So is does anybody want to pray and ask God to to bless our evenings and uh help us believe that we even though we don't see Jesus? Well, I will. Okay, because everybody's looking down at their feet. All right, here we go. Jesus, thank you so much for these beautiful young people, and thank you that they got to come and do the podcast with us today. And I pray that you would bless this podcast and make it a blessing to those who hear it. And hopefully they believe in you, even though they haven't seen you. And we thank you for it. Thank you for loving us, and thank you for having a plan for our lives in Jesus' name. Amen. So everybody say uh your goodbye to the podcast, people.
SPEAKER_06Bye. Bye. Bye.
SPEAKER_01You don't want to say anything more than just bye. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Do you guys know you guys know Spanish, don't you? I heard you sp speak Spanish a lot. So say goodbye in Spanish to the people that are listening who know Spanish as well. Okay, here we go. Here we go. Lucas, you got this.
SPEAKER_06I forgot I forgot how to say bye in Spanish. I know how to say bye in Spanish.
SPEAKER_01You know how to say bye? Sofia knows how to say goodbye in Spanish. Okay.
SPEAKER_06Adios. Adios! Oh, Lucas.
SPEAKER_01You blew it. All right.
SPEAKER_00Bye everybody, thanks for joining us today.
SPEAKER_06Bye. Adios.
SPEAKER_05Hey kids, let's talk.
SPEAKER_01Hey everybody, Pastor Jim here. Thanks for joining us today for the Hey Kids Let's Talk Forge Kids Podcast. So much fun with Lucas, Matteo, and Sophia. Remember our scripture? John 20, 29. Believe. Without seeing. Like the kids said in the podcast, there are lots of things that we believe in without seeing them in person. So the emotion of doubting that Thomas displayed is pretty normal in this story. He had to see it to believe it. I think this gives credibility to the whole story. Nobody wants to look bad. Why would Thomas want to look bad if the story wasn't true? Okay, thanks again for joining us. Next Sunday at the Foundry is Kids Takeover. It's going to be a blast. Hopefully, we'll see you then. Remember, God loves you and so do we. And God has an amazing journey for you.
SPEAKER_00If you believe. Without seeing. Okay, bye bye.
SPEAKER_05Hey kids! Let's talk.
