SPEAKER_01Hey everybody, Pastor Jim here for another episode of Hey Kids, Let's Talk. Today we have some kids here in the studio, and we're gonna talk about the message being taught at Parkway Fellowship here in Richmond, Texas, and Katy, Texas on Sunday, October 19th. Can you guys say October 19th?
SPEAKER_05October 19th.
SPEAKER_01That was perfect. And we're gonna that's the message that's gonna be taught to the big people. And so I would like the kids to introduce themselves, tell us what grade you're in, and what your favorite animal is, and if you've ever seen that animal in person. Okay, so who's gonna go first? Oh Madison. She raised her hand. You'll go third.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Madison third.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Let's go. Third.
SPEAKER_05Aw man.
SPEAKER_01Okay, Madison. Tell us your name, what grade you're in, and what your favorite animal is.
SPEAKER_04Hi, I'm Madison. I am in third grade right now, and my favorite animal is an oxalotl.
SPEAKER_01Oxalotl. Have you ever seen one in person?
SPEAKER_04No, but my brother has at a zip at an aquarium.
SPEAKER_01At an aquarium, yeah. That's my f my son, my grandson Max's favorite animal too. He loves those things. Okay, who's gonna go? Me! McKenna, you go.
SPEAKER_03Hi, my name's McKenna, and my favorite I'm in fourth grade.
SPEAKER_01Fourth grade.
SPEAKER_03And I love tigers.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, have you ever seen one in person?
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01Was it scary?
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_01No, they were they were just looking at you like who is this?
SPEAKER_03No, they were just laying around.
SPEAKER_01They were laying around. Yeah, I've seen those in the zoo too. Okay, last but not least, who is this? Get close to the microphone.
SPEAKER_05Finally. My name is Rain. I'm in third grade, and my favorite animal, to be honest, is Capybara.
SPEAKER_01Ooh. I didn't know what that was until I saw a band that had a a bunch of uh big fabric behind them, and they they had that animal. What is it called?
SPEAKER_05Capibara.
SPEAKER_01Capara.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I love capybara.
SPEAKER_01They're they're pretty cool. Have you ever seen one in person?
SPEAKER_05No, certainly not. I've only saw them on YouTube. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, my name is Pastor Jim, and I am not in a grade. I'm way past that. Oh. Because I'm old. And then uh we are going to uh and my favorite animal has to be the monkeys. When I go to the zoo and I see the monkeys, they are just crazy. I love watching them. They make me Okay, you know how to make the sound. Okay, that's awesome. So I'm gonna ask some of the parents and that are here, make sure you say take some pictures during, and then at the end we'll get a picture with everybody looking like uh they're they're having a good time. And so, Pastor Jim here, and uh thank you so much for being here today, kids. We have Madison McKenna and Rain, and uh, we're gonna do a podcast today for you guys. So, our scripture review is from Colossians. Everybody say Colossians! Colossians! Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. That hurt my ears. Rain, just say it normal. Okay, Colossians.
SPEAKER_02Colossians. No, no, I didn't say two yet.
SPEAKER_01Nice.
SPEAKER_05Colossians 3, 2 says, Set your mind on things above, not on earthy things.
SPEAKER_01Our uh series has been about make it make sense. Some things in the Bible, some stories in the Bibles just don't make sense, but we ask God to help them make sense to us. So today's scripture is 2 Corinthians. Everybody say, 2 Corinthians.
SPEAKER_022 Corinthians 1.

SPEAKER_0212. No, you didn't do it the right way. I guess they're not.
SPEAKER_01Nine.
SPEAKER_03Nine.
SPEAKER_01My grace is everything you need. Okay, so for the first three words, my grace is. We are going to hold our right fist up in the air for where we're gonna say my grace is, and then we're gonna bring our hand down, open it up as we say grace is. So my gracious. 2 Corinthians 12, 9 says, my graces. And then we do two thumbs up, the right hand thumbs up behind the left hand thumbs up. We're gonna go every. So we slap our right hand neck on the don't know how to do it, so and then we do the slap your right hand down on your left open palm. That's ever. And then thing is you slide your right hand out and kind of say thing. Okay, so from the beginning, 2 Corinthians 12 9 says, My grace is everything. And then you need. So you're gonna point on your right finger, right hand, pointer finger, and you're gonna bounce it three times when you say you need.
SPEAKER_03You need.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so 2 Corinthians 12 9 from the beginning says, My grace is everything you need. That's right. That's so good. So uh somebody's gonna read the entire verse from the Bible. Who was the who was that? I think it's Madison. Madison is gonna do it. Okay, Madison hit it.

SPEAKER_04But he said to me, My grace is everything you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.
SPEAKER_01So that is God saying that to us. My grace is everything you need. God's grace is everything we need, and his power is strongest when we are weak. Sometimes people look at weaknesses and they think, oh, that's but weaknesses can be good because it helps God be stronger in us. Okay, there's a story in the Bible about where Apostle Paul talked about how to become strong. And it might not be what you think. So we're gonna start our story. Here we go. Nice. When I get to the end of a paragraph, we're gonna go either yay or uh uh uh oh no. Or make the pain stop, or not as easy as it sounds.
SPEAKER_02I am strong.
SPEAKER_01Or we're gonna have a dance party like this. Dance dance God is strong. Dance, dance, dance, dance. If you weekend, God is strong. That ain't wrong. Okay, so that's the the thing we're gonna do. And so Paul, everybody say Paul was one of Jesus' most faithful followers. He traveled from city to city telling people about God's love and how Jesus had changed his life. Say, his life.
SPEAKER_02His life.
SPEAKER_01Many people believed God because of Paul's words. That deserves a cheer. But after a while, Paul noticed that he was doing so many amazing things for God that he started to feel a little too proud. God didn't want Paul to become proud. So, because pride makes it harder to depend on God. So, to help Paul stay humble, God allowed something difficult to happen to him.
SPEAKER_02Uh we gotta do that one again.
SPEAKER_01Difficult to happen.

SPEAKER_01Paul called it his thorn in the flesh. Everybody say thorn in the flesh.
SPEAKER_05Thorn in the flesh.
SPEAKER_01It was some kind of pain or problem that never went away. It hurt him and made life hard. He said it was like a messenger from Satan. Oh something that tried to make him suffer and stop him from doing God's work. What do we say to that? Paul did not understand why God would let this happen. It didn't make sense. It made him sad and tired. So he prayed, Lord, please take this away from me. He prayed once, then he prayed again and a third time. Everybody say, third time. Third time. He begged God to make the pain stop. Make the pain stop. I gotta hear that one again.
SPEAKER_02Make the pain stop.
SPEAKER_01Yes, but God did not take the pain away. Instead, God whispered something powerful to Paul's heart. My grace is everything you need. My power is strongest when you are weak. Sounds like a good time to say, yay!
SPEAKER_02Happy, happy, happy.
SPEAKER_01Paul finally understood. He realized that when he was weak, he needed God more. And when he needed God more, God's power could shine through him. Everybody say God's power could shine through him.
SPEAKER_02God's power could shine through him.
SPEAKER_01So Paul stopped complaining. Not as easy yet as it sounds. Oh, that was weak. Not as easy as it sounds he said, I will be glad about my weaknesses so Christ's power can rest on me. How many think there's a good thing for God's power to rest on you? Me. Me, me. Yeah, I think so. I think so. I will be happy when people are unkind, when life is hard, and when I face trouble, because when I am weak, then I am strong. From then on, Paul kept trusting God no matter what. His pain did not stop him. It became a reminder that God's grace, God's strength is greater than anything we face.
SPEAKER_02Time for a dance party. Dance dance dance dance when the pong was weak, yes, but it's gone. Dance, dance, dance, dance. When I am weak, yes, God is wrong. That ain't wrong.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I love that. And it's time to have our story. Hey, have you guys ever had a difficult thing happen in your life? And uh, if you could tell us about it, that'd be awesome. If you don't want to tell us about it, that's fine too. But do you have you ever had um a difficult time in your life where God was revealing your weakness because he wanted to be strong in your life or in your family's life or somebody that you know's life. Anybody got a story?
SPEAKER_04Yes, I did.
SPEAKER_01Okay, Matt hit it. We all got stories great.
SPEAKER_04Yay! Not too long ago, my um lizard died. It made me real sad.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that is a very sad thing. I know when I I had a cat and um when I was growing up and it died, and I was like so sad. Because his name was Tiger. Tiger. And I was sad because he was a good pet. And but when I when he heard a can opener open, the sound of a can opener, you know, uh he came running. So you had to watch out you didn't step on him. So I'm sorry, I'm sorry that happened to you, Madison. But did you did you lean on God a little bit for that? Yes. Okay. Nice. Uh who else has a story? Oh, Rain, go for it.
SPEAKER_05Okay, I want to go last.
SPEAKER_01You want to go last this time? Oh, okay. Mechanical.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so um, I have to share a room with my cousin and sometimes she wants to keep on the TV or wants um the nightlight on, which is I like to sleep in the plain dark with the TV off. And um and I lean to God for that because it it I can't fall asleep until like ten o'clock 'cause of that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And then you gotta get up early for school.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01So how do you lean on God for that? How do you lean on God for that situation?
SPEAKER_03Um I pray every night that um he can help me keep on going because not everyone has their own bedroom in my house.
SPEAKER_01That's just true.
SPEAKER_03So yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's so true. People all over the world. It's kind of rare when people have when they have their own rooms. Okay, Rain, your turn. Or do you want to go after me?
SPEAKER_05I want to go after you.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so when I was growing up, my family and I went to a movie and uh it was called Cinderella. And it was it was a long time ago and it first came out. And so we had a great time. I got the popcorn, I got the drink, I was like candy and all that stuff. And then when I got home, I could tell something was wrong because my mom and dad went and I was like, What? And they said somebody came in our house and robbed us. So they took stuff that didn't belong to them, and it was like, What? And it felt so gross that somebody had been in our house that was not invited. And so I was like, Oh, and then they called the police, the police came, and then we had to, as a family, we all got together and we prayed that God would help the people that stole the things feel terrible about it, and that maybe they would turn it back in. They never did, but we just we depended on God because that was a tough situation for our family. So, yes.
SPEAKER_05Did they leave the lock open?
SPEAKER_01Well, they came in through the window.
SPEAKER_05What?
SPEAKER_01They came in through my parents' window. I know. The door weeks later, my dad was open. Well, it was summertime, and so the windows had the screens were open. The like if the windows were open, the screens, or they just knocked the screen out and came in. But a couple a couple weeks later, my dad put some things on the windows that wouldn't they wouldn't be able to open the windows anymore. So, like that was nice. So we even when it was a tough thing, we learned something through that. Like, take precautions and and make it so people can't do bad stuff around you. Okay, Rain, your turn.
SPEAKER_05Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01We mean oh gosh. This is your chance to shine. Get close to the microphone.
SPEAKER_05I have a neighbor and she's my best friend.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_05Whenever we want to play, sometimes it's hurtful.
SPEAKER_00Does she say bad stuff to you?
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_05She's kinda fun, but like whenever I went to her house to me. Whenever I went to her house, we were playing playing hide and seek. I was. And I was she hiding?
SPEAKER_01No. Or you were hiding.
SPEAKER_05I was hiding, and um she opened the door very hardly where I was and it made my toe bleed.
SPEAKER_01Ow. I'm sorry that happened. Did you talk did you talk to her about it and say, hey, that hurt? Well did you cry?
SPEAKER_05Yes, I had to cry.
SPEAKER_01I I cried a lot too.
SPEAKER_05It went under my nails.
SPEAKER_01That's the worst. I hate that when it happens.
SPEAKER_05I did not feel good.
SPEAKER_01Did you talk to God about it? Did you talk to God about it, Rain?
SPEAKER_05Yes, at the night I was like, God, please don't let this happen to me again.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. So, yeah, that's a good thing to do. Sometimes when we are facing tough situations, we have to depend on God's grace and mercy. Okay. Do you guys know what the difference between grace and mercy is? Yeah, I do. I do. So let me go through that for the people that are listening to this podcast. Grace and mercy are both ways God shows his love, but they're like two sides of the same coin. So think about a coin. One side is grace and the other side is mercy. Okay. Let's pretend we have an old pair of shoes that are covered with mud after you played outside with your friends. You were told, don't walk in the house with muddy shoes, but you forgot and tracked mud everywhere. Have you guys ever done that?
SPEAKER_05I've never gotten mud on my shoes, but I've done stepping and I've forgotten what I was not meant to do.
SPEAKER_04My mom didn't tell me, but one time I have these sandals with stars in the bottom. I was playing in the mud, put them back in my closet for however long. Then I got them back out to go to church. I walked around, the star molds came out, and there was little stars, stars, and dust pellets.
SPEAKER_01Stars everywhere everywhere.
SPEAKER_04Oh man, that's because I was going around the whole house.
SPEAKER_01Nice. Well, that's horrible. This story, we have an old pair of shoes that you cover with mud after you walked played outside with your friends. You were told, Don't walk in the house with muddy shoes, but you forgot and track mud everywhere. Now you're in trouble. You broke the rule. You deserve a punishment. Maybe cleaning up the mess or losing a privilege. So mercy is your mom comes in and starts wiping the mud off your shoes. But instead of punishing you, your mom says, I forgive you. I'll clean up the mess for you. That's called mercy. Mercy means not getting the punishment you deserve. Can you see that punishment was taken away and somebody else took it for you? That's and the mess was being cleaned up. That's so nice. Has something like that ever happened to you where you were shown mercy? Yes, many, many times. Okay, so we're gonna talk about what grace is. Your mom doesn't stop there, though. She gives you a clean pair of brand new shoes. Your favorite brand. You didn't earn those shoes. You made a mess, but you still got a give. That's called grace. Grace means getting something good you did not deserve. So we all make messes in life when we disobey God. But Jesus showed us mercy by taking away our punishment, and he gave us grace by giving us a clean heart and a new life with him. Have you guys have you guys trusted in Jesus to be your savior and prayed all those prayers and all that? Every day. Nice.
SPEAKER_03Every day.
SPEAKER_01So you have seen mercy and grace. Mercy is because we deserve a punishment that Jesus took, but then he gave us a free gift called Eternal Life. I got baptized before. Nice. I think I have a song that we could do for the Jesus gave us eternal life. Dance, dance. Dance, dance. I love that dance. So he had give us eternal life.
SPEAKER_02Jesus is an awesome nice. That was fun.

SPEAKER_03Lord, thank you for the people surrounding us. Thank you for the people that are always in our lives. Thank you for this moment that I've and thank you for everyone that's watching this podcast. Thank you for the life that we were given and given. Thank you for everything that's been provided for us.
