MOBILE — The Mobile County Commission on Monday said it is powerless to ban a proposed data center in Calvert after opposed citizens cited noise pollution, water contamination and wetlands and wildlife concerns. Beacon Data Centers has proposed a billion technology campus in northern Mobile County that would occupy approximately 95 acres of a 650-acre tract between U.S. Highway 43 and Shepard House Road in Calvert. The remaining property would remain largely undisturbed as managed timberland and natural buffer areas, according to the company.
