Ep. 278 - What the Taylor Frankie Paul?!
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Hit that. Come on, B. Hit that riff. No, that was nice.
unknownHow about that?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah. You guys hear about Afro Man?
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_04I was just watching a little bit about that. Awesome.
SPEAKER_05What's Afro Man?
SPEAKER_04I can't wait to tell you about it. Hi, everybody. Welcome back to What the Podcast. I'm Ryan. And I'm John. And together we are Ryan and John. Cheers.
SPEAKER_02Cheers. The story of tonight.
SPEAKER_04They'll tell the story of tonight. Joining us in the blue. As always, the lovely Annie the Scove's Govman.
SPEAKER_02Scope Scope Scow Scow. Scope.
SPEAKER_04A lot of people are saying that you're always fresh and you're never frozen. Is that correct?
SPEAKER_05No, I'm actually filled with preservatives and always frozen. But don't pull. I put an organic sticker on so people don't know.
SPEAKER_02But don't, yeah. That doesn't mean anything. Organic. The word organic doesn't mean anything, right?
SPEAKER_04Technically speaking, it doesn't. Like you can just throw the. No, I think there is a legal definition that you have to.
SPEAKER_02It doesn't have to be organic for you to market it as organic, right?
SPEAKER_04No, I think it's.
SPEAKER_06I'm always fresh and never frozen, if anyone.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Well, that's a um Afro Man. Okay, so you know the song, I was gonna go to school, but then I got hug up. That's Afro Man. He's this guy. Apparently, he got caught up in this like illegal police raid. Oh, I don't know if it was illegal, but they thought that he was involved in some kind of drug kidnapping trafficking situation. Yeah. They raided his house based on little information, tore up his house, and they've got security camera footage in Afroman's house of this police officer um taking off the lid of his lemon cake and eating take like taking a huge bite of this lemon cake. And so they tear up his house. They obviously don't find anything, and so Afro Man writes this song about first he writes a song called Lemon Cake, where it's like clowning on this cop that eats his lemon cake, it's hilarious. And then he wrote a song like a follow-up song about like having sex with the guy's wife, and like it's hilarious. Um, the police station tried to sue him for defamation, and he said, No, first of all, you guys suck. I can say whatever I want. This is free speech. Yeah. You know, there was a a botched um investigation of my home. You guys came into my home with zero evidence. You ate my lemon cake, and um so I can just make a song and recoup the costs of all that. And they just ruled today that he um the all the charges were dropped. He's not gonna be. They wanted like four million dollars for this cop that was like, Yeah, you ruined my life with that song. And no, he's all good. Afro Man lives, free speech uh lives to tell the tale. Another day.
SPEAKER_02It's such a wild thing for the police department to do because like you clearly got got with the camera footage, right? Like, like you were trying to do something, you were doing something dumb, you got caught, which is fine. And then you're expecting like not to get clowned on. Like, what a stupid move.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I think that's done with them. I also think what a crazy move to take a piece of lemon cake. Not even take a piece of it, bite into it. Like just a weird move. It almost seems like it's a bit.
SPEAKER_03It's the uh the theme uh or uh the tune to uh under the boardwalk. Yeah. The lemon pound cake.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's pretty good.
SPEAKER_06What? Like, if they were really worried that there were illicit things in this house, what if that pound cake was like laced with weed?
SPEAKER_04Oh, sure. Like I agree.
SPEAKER_06His his f most famous song is about getting high. Yeah. He's like, let's risk it, let's eat this pound cake. Homemade pound cake.
SPEAKER_02I think this is kind of a good thing to happen a little bit. Cause I I I don't I think like any profession, there are bad apples, like, and cops are no exception. There are sometimes there are I don't know I don't know that that what he did was what do we consider bad. Like it was just like a poor judgment call.
SPEAKER_04Sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But I just think it's good to like, because I do feel like sometimes there's a little bit of like we can do what we want with law enforcement. Yeah, sure. And I think although this is harmless, and it's and I'm happy that it is harmless, but like it's kind of the perfect like little, hey, like, you're not like just because you're raiding a house doesn't mean you can just do whatever you want. You know, it's like it's kind of like a good like not it's because what we're what we usually see about police is like when they make like violent, you know, unfortunately like not innocent until proven guilty. But this is kind of like a good reminder where nobody gets hurt. It's just kind of like a funny little like, oh yeah, he that's weird that he ate the cake, but it's a good reminder of like, hey, like you can't just do what you want when you're going to somebody else.
SPEAKER_04You know, fly in the face of you know accountability all the time. And so for something like that to happen, it's like, yeah, you know.
SPEAKER_06It doesn't help that the officer kind of had like a look about him.
SPEAKER_04What do you do?
SPEAKER_06He was a little tubby. Like, really, like, come on, man. You're giving us tubby people a bad name.
SPEAKER_02It feels like it feels like a bit like what like so why are you doing?
SPEAKER_06What a raid, brother. It's like um that that Caleb Heron thing where he's like he got so he got roasted in the comments where someone said this guy looks like he broke into a bakery and ate all the pies. Like that guy looks like that guy looks like if he was the cop who was riding the house, he'd eat the lemon cake.
SPEAKER_03He's he stopped to get the lemon cake, take a big bite of it.
SPEAKER_06He stopped the cake.
SPEAKER_03Come on, brother.
SPEAKER_04Anyways, I'm gonna be listening to Lemon Pound Cake for a while.
SPEAKER_05That's crazy.
SPEAKER_04It's that Barbara Streisand thing uh where you know did you guys ever hear that the Barbara Streisand effect? Where she like had this house on the cliffs or something, and she called Google and asked them to remove it. And so it like apparently they denied, like she had this house on the cliffs, and she wanted it to be removed from like a Google Air Cam or whatever, you know how they do Google Earth, and it caused an up spike in people searching her home to like see the home. And so, like, they call it the bar Barbara Streisand effect because as soon as you draw attention to this thing, it makes it more popular. Yeah, you being like, I don't want anyone to see my house, it's like okay, now everybody wants to see your house.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, now I guess you why you don't want me to see your house.
SPEAKER_04This these officers are like, this song ruined my life. We don't want anyone here to this song about Afro Man having sex with my wife, hilarious. Yeah, um, and now the streams are just going crazy after uh this guy was acquitted. Of course. So how are you?
SPEAKER_06Wow, you know what? In a world of crazy news, I love that one. Transition. Transition. The craziest news that I heard today. Thanks for asking.
SPEAKER_02Go ahead.
SPEAKER_06The bachelorette that was supposed to air on Monday has been pulled off the air and is is cancelled.
SPEAKER_02You think it I I we you get to do it first, because I have some thoughts.
SPEAKER_04But go give us the Today is March 19th.
SPEAKER_06And we just got word that Arthur, if you pull that camera out, I could ruin the whole thing. Arthur.
SPEAKER_02Leave it alone.
SPEAKER_04It's already the podcast on just off screen. That's fine. We'll cut that out.
SPEAKER_06We write it to the microphone. Arthur!
SPEAKER_04I'm so sick of you. Get out of there.
SPEAKER_06Come here. Oh, now he's coming. Okay. Here it comes. Well now.
SPEAKER_04See, it's the Barberstry Sand effect. You drew attention to him. And now he's the whole show. Artie. Artie, get up on the booth.
SPEAKER_06Come on.
SPEAKER_04Come on, Pope.
SPEAKER_06Come on.
SPEAKER_02We're talking about the we're talking about Mormon wives. Get up here.
SPEAKER_04Get up here.
SPEAKER_06We're talking about Mormon wives. We're talking about that's where we're at. You're thinking about it. Come on.
SPEAKER_04What's her name? Taylor something.
SPEAKER_02It's gonna be fun. It's never fun. You never like it. But now you're here.
SPEAKER_06Okay, so Taylor Frankie Paul is the main person, I guess the main head honcho in the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. A phenomenal show about sad women who make TikTok careers and have drama because they all grow up in the Mormon church.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_06And she was kind of the person who started it. Well, she was pick picked as the new bachelorette. She has this less baby daddy of hers. She has three kids with two different guys. Her most recent baby daddy, on again, off again, all of stuff. The first season of the Secret Lives and Mormon Wives, after the first episode, they stop and they said we had to wait five months because she had a domestic violence situation where the cops were called. But the video from that situation has come to light, and ABC has pulled the Bachelorette because it sh depicts her committing an act of DV against her then boyfriend, her baby daddy Dakota, and in it you see her throwing bar stools at him, choking him, hitting him, and he's recording. He's like, Stop, like, get away from me, let me leave, let me leave. And she throws this bar stool over the couch where her kid is on it. Her kid, and he's like, Your daughter's sitting right there. And she's like, I don't care, I don't care. And just throwing it. So this video has come to light and it's now being under investigation again. Uh-huh. And there had been reports that they stopped filming the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives because there was another domestic violence situation that came to light. Yes. So the Bachelorette, it's already filmed. It's fully done. It was introduced to everything.
SPEAKER_04ABC put a lot of their eggs into this basket of the Secret Life of Mormon Wives.
SPEAKER_06They what they fully, usually the Bachelorette, the way it works is it's someone from the last season of The Bachelor. And the Bachelor is someone from the last season of The Bachelorette. And that's how they've been doing it. They went rogue and they said, We're going to get a new Bachelorette because it's just the views, the views haven't gone downhill, whatever.
SPEAKER_04I think it's because after the Dancing with the Stars situation with the other Mormon wife girl, they're like, Oh, this is a gold mine. We're gonna put it well, they're kind of happening at the same time, were they?
SPEAKER_06They were yeah, they were filming them at the time.
SPEAKER_02Timeline wise, they were the same. And that's kind of bada bing bada boom. Bada bing bada boom. Because you remember, like in the new season, God I hate that I know this. The new season, like they're like, Oh, Taylor's gonna be a little bit more than a little bit and they're going to the dancing stars and she's filming The Bachelorette. It was like already like in the season, they're talking about like how they already knew. Of course, we didn't know, but they had already known.
SPEAKER_04So now, and then So now they've just canceled this new season, it's just not gonna air.
SPEAKER_06It's not gonna air too much. They said they postponed it. Okay. But now it's the kind of thing where it's like all the spoilers of the season have come out. Sure. They've said who they who wins, and they've already said that they broke it up again, and they said it's because of this guy. And then on the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, that aired like the new season aired not too long ago. Um, they show that she slept with her baby daddy before going to film like the night before she left. And you know, they catch her sleeping with him.
SPEAKER_02Jordan brought up, which was kind of interesting, is because we were when we first came out that she was gonna be the bachelorette. I was like, Jordan was saying that part of being on that show is you can't have any contact with anybody for five months. So for five months, she didn't see or talk to her kids.
SPEAKER_06I think I think I heard that they made a loophole for her. Oh, okay. That she was able to like FaceTime with her.
SPEAKER_02But Jordan was kind of like like I understand career advanced.
SPEAKER_04You already have to be a certain kind of crazy to be on that show.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but she's like, she's like, imagine not I mean, even if she got to FaceTime, that's good. But I'm like, imagine not being around your kids for five months.
SPEAKER_06Well, and then so her ex-husband, so she has an ex-husband, she has a baby daddy. Her ex-husband, she has two kids with, and they're not allowed on the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Like, they don't even they blur out their photos in like the city. Does he have like full custody or is it like custody?
SPEAKER_04But he's like, they can't be on the show.
SPEAKER_06He refused to sign a photo release, and because they share custody, they have to, it has to be a joint agreement. So they don't film any of her other two kids, but I saw a clip on The Bachelorette where one of the dates is that she brings these guys to meet all of her kids. Oh and they have like a day with her kids because she's like, Whoever I end up with, they have to they have to be like my kids, they're gonna be my kids' life. Um interesting.
SPEAKER_04Crazy. I wonder if it was like different management or a different amount of money was like.
SPEAKER_06A one appearance thing.
SPEAKER_02That feels weird then because he could have I feel like he could have gotten paid to have his kids on more and wives.
SPEAKER_04And then so she has another kid with this guy discovered. Which we just saw came out. This was a clip from twenty two thousand twenty-three.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so it's it's the clip from the incident of season one. Okay, and it's hard because the narrative up until now, which in season one they said like it was a DV call against her. Right. That like they they owned up there like, oh, it's D, and she was like, I was drinking, I was drunk, and I hit him, and you know, whatever. And then you see this video and you're like, this is like this is way hard. To be doing this in front of your child, to you know, like all this stuff. And then on top of that, crazy. Um again, all these clips, up until now, the narrative has been even all the girls have stood behind, he's the problem. Yeah, he's the problem, he's causing all of this to happen, he's doing this. And can is the truth somewhere in the middle? Probably. Yeah. Are they both at fault to a degree? Probably.
SPEAKER_04Is this video pretty damning?
SPEAKER_06Pretty damning. It's really hard to be like the man is avidly running away from you, and you are throwing bar stools at him.
SPEAKER_04You're right. We what we probably don't see in the video is the X amount of time before the incident where he's bugs bunnying her into this fit of rage.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, absolutely. I don't know. Cheating on her and doing you know, all this stuff. But even in this new season, there's a point in where he they're broken up and she's like, Yep, um, I just hope he moves on and leaves me alone. Okay. I want to move on and leave alone. He goes to Vanderpuppen Villa or whatever, and has sleeps with a girl. She finds out about it, she's sobbing, crying, and a clip comes out of her being like, Did you finish? Did you like it? Like sobbing on the phone with this guy who is not her boyfriend. She has avidly said, Yeah, I hope he moves on. I hope it's and you're trying to have a co-parenting relationship with, and now you're calling him saying that I'm like, okay, you guys are both toxic.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And you know what? As much as the whole narrative, all the girls have stood behind the narrative of he's the problem and he sucks her back in and he's manipulating her, and it's like, okay, can you really stand behind her now? Because now it's now it's if they and I I think I'm pro the sh I'm pro ABC polling in the show.
SPEAKER_03Sure.
SPEAKER_06Absolutely. You know what? We should first of all The Bachelorette. We shouldn't have if she has a case of DV filed against her, she should not have been offered the bachelorette.
SPEAKER_04Considered, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Because it kind of comes off as, oh, if women do it, it's not real.
SPEAKER_04I think honestly, I think a a lot of times in these rooms, because uh stuff like this I feel like doesn't it happens quite a bit where like stuff will come out after the show, oh in new information, whatever, and then you know, ABC will make a post and say, hey, like we're sorry we didn't know about this before we filmed or whatever. I think they honestly weigh it out. They go, Okay, is anything gonna come out? We know about this situation, is it gonna come out before air? It's not okay, we're gonna air it. Oh, it does? Okay, well, we need to like. I think honestly, there's probably like a uh what do you call that?
SPEAKER_06Like um like a risk calculator.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like a risk calculator or like a crisis management team where they're like, okay, batting down the hatches, like this just came out.
SPEAKER_06And she has said in her, she released a statement, Taylor Frankie Paul did, that basically was like or someone on her team released. Yes, her PR team. Yeah, absolutely. Which was basically like she has lived in fear of for her children and herself, and have had threats made against her, and this like this basically that this video was used as collateral of like if you don't do X, Y, and Z, I'll I'll release the video. I don't doubt that that's probably true. That's why I said I'm sure that happened. I'm sure there was a I have like, oh, everyone thinks they know you you're gonna be the bachelor. Well, I have a video of you throwing bar stools at me in front of your kid.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And that is quite the quite the piece.
SPEAKER_04Smoking gun.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that is definitely quite a bargaining chip. Because man, but at the same time, it's like, okay, hey, ABC, she has a like a filed police report of DV.
SPEAKER_02I think it's one of those things too where it's away the cost. Any press any press is like what's that old that phrase? Like any press is good press. And I think I think do did they know that there was some serious weight behind it? No, they wouldn't know that if it's a pending case. I do think to some degree they probably were like, hey, this gives her kind of an edge. Like she's got this, she's got these pending charges, she's this big personality.
SPEAKER_06Who owns ABC? This Hulu? Disney. Disney? Yeah. And Disney owns Hulu.
SPEAKER_04Oh, Disney's got their strengths on the whole thing.
SPEAKER_06You know what? And are we shocked that Disney's like kind of like, yeah, D V, whatever? No.
SPEAKER_04I think it can go either way. I think they could pull it and go, yeah, we're a family-oriented network. ABC's always been like, you know, the high road network, I feel like. But they also have a lot of content that's like questionable.
SPEAKER_02Like you said though, they've they've already released what's happened. So I think that lessens the like punch. Like, if it was really like locked out, and this and I think this is something they miscalculated, is she's filming another show concurrently. So the details of what's happening is gonna come out on the other show. So I think that if they miss their window, it's a great moment. No one can I don't think anyone's gonna I think the the viewership will be down because if we know he doesn't she doesn't end up with the guy she ends up with, then why are that why are we watching? That's it.
SPEAKER_04Unless that's exactly what they want you to do.
SPEAKER_06No, they want you to do that because they are shows.
SPEAKER_04They don't know that we know that they know we know. You know, like they want you to hate watching because I didn't watch it willingly. I watch it with my wife. You didn't it sounds like you didn't watch it willingly, and now you're hooked. I think that I think somebody in the analytics at ABC is saying, hey, a lot of people I think truly hate watch the show. I think that there's a lot of girls on there that are incredibly dislikable. And it gets And the men the men of Dan Talk horribly disliked.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, like across the board. And it's kind of like now, yeah, now you do it because you hate the guys so much. Yes. Like, oh, this I gotta see. I gotta see how horrible her husband is this season. And now they're like, they're all getting divorced. Yes. It's like, oh and it's stuff where it's like, well, that's why your wife is sleeping at the Hyatt every other night. And you're like, bro, I'm sorry. What? We're pulling up people's marital issues as just like a comeback at brunch.
SPEAKER_04Because at the end of the day, because at the end of the day, it's not about the values, the morals. It's about we are watching the show.
SPEAKER_06And you know what? The Mormon church is winning. You think people are converting? You know what it is? Yeah, actually think of it. This is what happens to you when you leave. If you want to leave the church, that's fine, but that's what your life's gonna be. Your marriage is gonna fall apart. Your marriage's gonna fall apart. Like, that's what's gonna happen. You're gonna start swinging, and everything bad's gonna happen. As a side note, you stay at the church.
SPEAKER_04It's the first time in like 30 years, they're opening the Mormon temple here in San Diego. I don't believe that. You want to go check it out?
SPEAKER_06No, I because I kind of want to see what's inside. But they're not gonna show you, they're gonna show you the like visitation room. Sure. Sure. But they're not gonna show you the whole thing.
SPEAKER_04And then as soon as the tour starts, blast in there, boom! Go, go see the temple, go see the altar killed by the temple.
SPEAKER_06It's like in Scientology when they're like, come on in, come on in.
SPEAKER_02I'm like, blast to the back room. Do you think that they they expect some conversions out of this this the Mormon be expecting conversions?
SPEAKER_04Okay, well, talk about more high standard and morals. You know who just dropped their brand deal with the Mormon wives? What? Cinnabon. Oh pulled all their brand deal with them, said we're gonna stand up for this.
SPEAKER_06So you know what? Cinnabon?
SPEAKER_04Upstanding company like Cinnabon.
SPEAKER_06You know what? And that's why Cinnabon took their money that they lost and they're investing it into us.
SPEAKER_02I know we talk about this every time we talk about reality TV. Yeah. But we have got to stop watching, like promoting this kind of trash television. I know it's like watching a car crash, you can't keep your eyes off of it.
SPEAKER_06It has, it's created so much. Like, I kind of made a good point.
SPEAKER_04Sorry to cut you off. Yeah, go ahead. You kind of made a good point that I just was thinking about. Which one? You kind of said something smart back there. Which one? Where it kind of drives home this stereotype of like crazy women. Yes. It's like making these women out to be, and and I keep saying, like, oh yeah, she's crazy and he's crazy, and whatever. Like, I don't want to throw around like oh, crazy woman. Big C. Yeah. Yeah, because I I don't know Big C W. That's not what I think of women. But like they make them out to be, and especially when you watch The Bachelorette, The Bachelor, Love Island, these shows that are like driving home these weird, yeah, like stereotypes, right? Yeah, of like, oh, she's just you know, hysterical. We were talking about lobotomies. Oh shoot. In the next episode, we talk about lobotomies. Don't ask me how I know that already. We're talking about lobotomies and like a monk storied history of like, oh, she's just crazy. She's not a period. She's not on a period.
SPEAKER_06You know, put her, you know, my wife, she's not listening to put her the masylum. Yes. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_04It's like, and that's all this whole thing is like rooted in that like old school misogyny.
SPEAKER_06These women, if we were in the olden days, these women would be institutionalized.
SPEAKER_04Totally.
SPEAKER_06It's like she's thinking about herself again. There she goes. Into the institution. There she goes again. Absolutely crazy. I agree with that. I cut you off. You were in midstrip. No, I wasn't saying anything about how Ryan believes that women are crazy women.
SPEAKER_04I love women. Shout out to women.
SPEAKER_06A bird just hit my face.
SPEAKER_04A bird? That was a bird. A bird?
SPEAKER_06Giant mosquito hawk. It was basically a bird. It wasn't a bird. It was practically a bird.
SPEAKER_02Because I feel like I would have seen a bird fly in here. You say it wasn't a bird.
SPEAKER_06Oh, am I being a hysterical woman? Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_04Why don't you just shut your trap, woman?
SPEAKER_06Man, that's me being a crazy woman. Oh.
SPEAKER_04Are you, Andy, be honest. Are you on your period?
SPEAKER_02I hate it.
SPEAKER_04That's what John Auburn thinks.
SPEAKER_02No, that's not what John Auburn thinks. No. No.
SPEAKER_06No, but I do think it is, it is perpetuating this crazy stereotype. And whereas, like, now they have a lot of money, right? Because they've been doing this show. And they, yeah, they had money from TikTok or whatever. But you look at like keeping up with the Kardashians. It's a lot of the similar storylines, right? Of like, can't keep a marriage, all these things, these crazy.
SPEAKER_02Should we hold there? This dog is creating way too many distractions today. It's like the third stop we've had before with him. Let's see if he can do it. Oh no. He's fine. He's fine. He's going to his corner.
SPEAKER_06But like keeping up with the Kardashians is a lot of the same storylines, right? Baby daddy's cheating on you and all this stuff coming out and these hysterical cryings and these fights, all this stuff. But the difference is like these are just the idea of this show was like these are just moms. And they're like they're young moms who got in who got married young, and it's like, yeah, it's like their secret life. It's perpetuating this idea that like they can't have anything. Like it's always gonna be like this.
SPEAKER_02I my favorite like sub thing on the on the whole uh Moran Wives show too is like, you know, all these these ladies are now doing brand deals, they're very successful, which is great, and they're making all this money. And like, so their their husbands inevitably like essentially stopped working to like come take care of the kids and and you know, kind of fill the gaps, which is great. But then it like now it's getting to a point where the women are like complaining about how the the how like the men don't like don't work, and I'm like, wait, I'm confused.
SPEAKER_06They were all stay-at-home moms and they were just messing around on TikTok. Yeah, and they started making money, and now the guys all quit their jobs. Now it's like, well, she's had to be able to do that.
SPEAKER_02And then some of them are like Jordan just sits at home, he doesn't do anything. I'm like, I'm sorry, what? Like, aren't you the one gone all the time? I'm confused.
SPEAKER_04It's so weird. And then the guys will be like, Oh, you know, like this cute little thing you guys are doing. It's like, brother, you haven't worked in years. Exactly. You don't have a job, a dynamic, but you still see yourself as like the head of the household. Yeah. What's the one that's which is a negative thing, anyways.
SPEAKER_06Oh, Zach. Jen's husband, Zach, who now dropped out of med school.
SPEAKER_02Dropped out of med school. I'm like, and then he, it's like so funny because like Jen gives him a hard time. Like, well, he's not going to school anymore. And I'm like, but then I'm like, Yeah, you I mean you make millions of dollars from.
SPEAKER_06And at the same time, three weeks postpartum, yeah, he has to go with you. What's he gonna do? Stay in New York for med school.
SPEAKER_02And then Zach comes right, he's like, I just feel like all she does is this. And I'm like, brother, that's the gag. That's the gag, brother. Come on.
SPEAKER_06She's getting her bag and she's gonna be.
SPEAKER_02Like the women are kind of getting the men's perspective and the men are getting the men's perspective. It's just like very interesting because of the show.
SPEAKER_06And it's and it's hard because I do think, like, as much as I I every once in a while I have this moment where I'm like, they're our age.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And so there's a part of me that laments for them of like, man, that's so hard, and like I feel for them because they're young. Not all of them, 23, 24. But then there's another part of me where I'm like, I wouldn't do that.
SPEAKER_02To me and uh Jesse are like 30 something, they're in their their mid 30s.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and then and then it's it's hard because I think anyone under a mic microscope, it's they're gonna they're gonna crack.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06The only people that I remember watching where I'm like, this is such a crazy reality TV show. And I feel like they didn't crack because they were cracked in other ways, are the Osbornes. I remember watching the Osborne and being like, this is crazy, but it was partially because they already had the crazy fame and all the stuff, and like and they had this reality TV show that just fell to Rome and it's just like a crazy family.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay, yeah, okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. But then like you look at the other ones, I'm like, man, like I think they're gonna look back and be like, the secret lives of Mormon wives ruined our life. And we're gonna get that documentary in ten years from now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, we're guys, I hate to recognize you. The TV shows that are that are being made right now are just the next generation's documentaries. We're experiencing that because we're watching our documentaries. They're the biggest loser of our last generation, absolutely TV stuff. You know what I'm saying? So it's like there'll be a documentary about Mormon wives, and like you said, in 10 years. And the Mormon church gonna fund it. I can't believe that that people watch this. Like they were okay with this.
SPEAKER_04There's this like obligation towards getting the most views as possible. Yeah. And so I think that some of these women, like, and men, I think they play into it a little bit too. Where it's like, you know, okay, that that reaction. Obviously, they like they do stuff kind of organically. They're filming these girls when they get together, but also I think they go, There's a producer on set, and they're going, okay, kind of dramatize it a little more, react a little bigger to that. She just told you that she's, you know, not seeing her husband, react a little bigger to that.
SPEAKER_06The first year I fully the first season I fully believed that they were true doing more of a true reality TV show. Because it was like, oh, we're filming a party in somebody's parents' house. Yeah. Now it's like, oh, we've rented this venue and we're gonna have a lot of people. Oh, this is Prada is putting this trip. We're having a baby viewing and we have completely set tables and we have all this stuff and it's catered, and there's no one else there but the cast. And I'm like, okay, so this is all fake.
SPEAKER_02It's all fake, exactly.
SPEAKER_06It's all fake.
SPEAKER_02And that's it, it begs the question: can a reality show go past a few seasons without losing the thread? It's like it's a snake eating its own tail.
SPEAKER_06I think the only one that I can think of is like the Kardashians at this point, because at this point it's like the show is the fact that their lives are so outlandish. And that's like you don't really have to do anything because their lives are outlandish because they're at that this level of fame. In the same way that the Osborne's were, where it was like they already had this outlandish life where it's like, what? I love you, but the more to make it.
SPEAKER_04The more they do the show, the crazier it gets, and the crazier it gets, the more crazy the show is, and the more crazy the show is, the more successful it is.
SPEAKER_02And it just keeps I just saw this with Top Model. I mean, it was like they had to keep up with the Joneses, like it had they were they it became less about modeling and more about appeasing the show, the audience.
SPEAKER_04And that's the whole like Seinfeld airline food thing, too, where like he started as this comic that was like, you know, what's the deal with when you're seeing a woman? And it was like very relatable. Yeah, and the more famous he got, the more like detached from reality his bits were. When he's like, you know, when you're sitting in first class, what's the deal with airline food? And everyone's like, What are you talking about? Like yeah, like wait. He's like, you know when you're flying from New York to LA in one day? What's the deal with that?
SPEAKER_02My favorite team from the Osbournes was when Ozzy was hammered, he stumbles out of his studio. He goes, Somebody has come in my studio and drank all my beer. And Sharon's like, No, honey, I think you drank all the beer. And he's like, No, I did not. Somebody stole all my beer. And she's like, No, Ozzy, I think you drank all the beer.
SPEAKER_06He was just like, My favorite, and I'll be like, That was a pretty good Ozzy. That was a pretty good Ozzy.
SPEAKER_04Somebody stole my bear.
SPEAKER_06It just came back up on my feed, which is why the Osborne's were at the front of my mind. It's one of my favorite clips of all time, and it's Kelly, because I'm like, oh, I was such a Kelly as a kid. She's like, I'm gonna go to Vegas, I'm gonna get married this weekend. I don't know to who, I'm gonna go there, and I'm just gonna marry anyone. And her mom's like, Yeah, you should. And she's like, no, I'm being serious. And she goes, Kelly, so am I. You should totally do how fun would that be go get married to a random person. She's like, no, really, I'm serious. She's like trying to get a reaction out of her rock star. And then her then Ozzie comes in and she's like, and Sharon's like, Ozzie, Kelly's going to Vegas and getting married. He's like, Oh, that's nice. You need money? I'm being serious. I was like, Do you want any drugs? But like, I was totally acting. I was like, no, Mom, I'm gonna do this. And she's like, okay. And I'm like, no, I'm real. I'm I am. I'll drive you.
SPEAKER_02The best is like when that when Sharon starts to get, like, you can tell she starts having a job in that show, and she's like, Oh, I'm leaving, and they're like, Ozzy tries to give her like a wad of hundred dollar bills, and she's like, No, I don't need the money. He's like, You better take it, or I'm gonna stuff it in your in your in your in your purse. And she and he's like, she's like, No, I'm okay. That's crazy. You tell because she started like making her own money. She's like, she's like, I don't see the money. But Ozzy's just like, he's like a dad, but he's rich, right? So he's got this big old like absurd amount of money in in a roll of like hundreds. Yeah. And she's like, I don't need three thousand dollars, dad. Like, I'm going to the airport.
SPEAKER_05So awesome.
SPEAKER_06You know, I do.
SPEAKER_02I can't believe he's dead. That's crazy to me. Sorry, B.
SPEAKER_06Um, crazy. But yeah, Secret Life to Mormon Wives, I hope gets canceled.
SPEAKER_04I hope the whole thing goes.
SPEAKER_06I hope it gets canceled. I hope it all gets canceled. And I hope, hey, go back to your roots. Why don't you ladies just stick to TikTok?
SPEAKER_04I hope all of these Mormon wives take a long, hard look at where their career has gotten them and say, hey, you know what? Maybe we should just chill. All right. Because it that any I don't know. That any of these people are famous is crazy, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. Because I would say, like, we shouldn't be propping them up in any way. And now Whitney has taken it and she's been on Broadway and her Chicago debut has like done insane numbers.
SPEAKER_02And she's on Broadway.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and she's playing Roxy in Chicago. Is she good? She had it coming. She have she was a dance major in college. She was good. She like went to musical theater school and stuff. Dancing the stars, you can tell is Kara on this episode.
SPEAKER_04I just need to say Kara, can you please speak up?
SPEAKER_06Kara.
SPEAKER_02This is how you know she's like a dancer because when you watch her on dancing stars, she her facial experience for expressions while she's dancing. Because like usually if you're if you didn't grow up dancing or in theater, you you know you're so focused on dancing. You don't forget about your face. But like, what do they tell us? Like all this. It's like you got your your face. You're always on the face. Use your moneymaker. And Whitney is like that on Dancing Stars. She's like, she's like doing all these fun. I'm like, okay, that's it.
SPEAKER_06When you're dancing, you're acting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Wow. That's beautiful.
SPEAKER_06Thanks.
SPEAKER_04If you can't dance, you got nothing.
SPEAKER_06But everyone like Michaela, who is one of the Mormon wives, who's like, she's kind of tourist because the whole time she has this autoimmune disease. So like her she has all these skin flare-ups, and she just had her fourth kid and now she's getting divorced. Oh, just came out that her and her husband are separating.
SPEAKER_04Who was this? Her and Jace.
SPEAKER_06Um, yeah, her and Jace.
SPEAKER_04And the show starts, they have like you like this show more than you bet on. I want you to kill me. Right, I don't want you to kill me.
SPEAKER_06You know what they used to say to me in theater? She moved out of Utah.
SPEAKER_04Ryan, you got a face for radio.
SPEAKER_03I don't know what it meant, but.
SPEAKER_07It means you're ugly.
SPEAKER_03Oh, thanks, Andy. Oh, I was a little slow on that one. You're just being a dumb boy. I'm a hysterical woman and you're a dumb boy. And I'm just a dumb boy.
SPEAKER_06You know what? Boys go to Jupiter. Get more stupider.
SPEAKER_04Girls go to Venus. What do they go for?
SPEAKER_06I don't remember.
SPEAKER_03Anyways. Girls go to Mars. What else are we talking about? Girls go to Mars to get more candy more.
SPEAKER_06Okay. Another reality TV show that luckily was pulled off there, The Duggars.
SPEAKER_02The Duggars. 26 and Counting. What was that show called?
SPEAKER_04Screw it.
SPEAKER_0619 Kids and Counting.
SPEAKER_04Talk about a freaking on TV social expression.
SPEAKER_02Where are we? Are we surprised? 19 kids. Can you can you And counting? Can you successfully parent 19 kids?
SPEAKER_06Also part of a religious organization that is considered a cult, much like Mormonism. They're part of a movement called not Seven Day Adventure.
SPEAKER_04Yellow Deli.
SPEAKER_06No, they have it's like some um it's some movement that's super similar to like extreme conservative Christian. Boo. Very similar to Mormon. Sure. Sorry.
SPEAKER_04Um they call that um uh fundies, right? Rupert Fundamental I I'm forgetting.
SPEAKER_06Hubbard something Elron Hubbard.
SPEAKER_04That would be Scientology.
SPEAKER_06Oh no. Anyway, they're they're probably a call.
SPEAKER_04Cole Coal Call it Cole. Um we caught another one another Duggar son. Diddling.
SPEAKER_06Had has been arrested for yeah, uh inappropriately touching a minor.
SPEAKER_04One of the other kids, right?
SPEAKER_06Uh no, I believe it was like a neighbor. And then yeah, he confessed it to the girl's dad. So when you're And so the dad said, okay, I'm calling the cops.
SPEAKER_04Okay, thank you for confessing that. Wait, say that again.
SPEAKER_06So he is getting arrested today.
SPEAKER_02That you like came out. Admitted it. Yeah, I hate that. I know the kid's parent.
SPEAKER_06I I'm glad that we're getting him. Let's get him. But period, hey, yeah.
SPEAKER_02All bad, but I'm like, like you, the fact that you can like confess to the parent, I'm like, is that like weird.
SPEAKER_06And it happened almost exactly five years from the day that his brother got arrested for child pornography.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was crazy. It was probably on his mind. He's like, I just need it. Could be. I mean, a lot of guys that, you know, serial killers.
SPEAKER_06I want to I want you to pause, think about what you're about to say. It's gonna be recorded for history. Go.
SPEAKER_04A lot of guys, serial killers, not you know, sexual assaulters, end up confessing.
SPEAKER_06Yes, okay, yeah. Yeah. What did you think I was gonna say? Well, that's kind of well, a lot of guys. Yeah, okay, so we're saying about child pornography, and then you say, well, a lot of guys. I don't want to it's because nobody lets me get a freaking inch in on this show.
SPEAKER_02I don't want to. I don't want to do the Duggar conversation too soon. But I was I'm starting to think maybe not such a great fit. It made me it made me think of investing like the senior Chavez thing. It's like the Caesar Chavez thing. It's like his his partner at 94.
SPEAKER_03Senior Chavez, as some people call him.
SPEAKER_02Can't flip up on this show.
SPEAKER_03You cannot flip up.
SPEAKER_02You can't give him an inch because but Caesar Chavez is you know, longtime business partner?
SPEAKER_06Um, it was like kind of the female equivalent to him in the farmer workers like movement at 94, right? I believe she's 96.
SPEAKER_0296, she basically drops a bomb and says He fathered two of my children against my will.
SPEAKER_06Forcibly father two of my children.
SPEAKER_02That's kind of a confession of of sorts. I mean, uh uh over time, right?
SPEAKER_06And his and I will say Cesar Chavez's family made a statement that basically that's all right. He because I first saw those like oh allegations of assault came out to him. He's been dead for 30 years, and they're like, We're gonna, we're not gonna we're gonna take change the name of Caesar Chavez Day, and I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Everyone slow down.
SPEAKER_02Hold on.
SPEAKER_06What what's happening? And then I saw who was the first person to confess. It was his like um his like partner in the in the movement, in the organization. It's like horrible. Horrible. And then she said, I felt for 60 years that I couldn't say anything because I didn't want it to negatively affect all of the hard work I had done to help make this.
SPEAKER_04I mean, we're talking schools, the park down in Barrio Logan. Barrio Logan.
SPEAKER_06Like uh statues, a Caesar Chavez Day. Yes, which and then I look back and I'm like, why are we immortalizing these people at all? Yeah, it shouldn't have ever been Caesar Chavez Day, it should have been Migrant Day Workers' Day. It should have been farm workers' day, farm workers' day, it should have been Christopher Columbus Day.
SPEAKER_04No, like no, it should be I don't know why we celebrated him in the first place.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he was bad.
SPEAKER_02Um you know but indigenous people's day now, right? Is it's indigenous.
SPEAKER_06I believe it is, yeah. And so I just think it's so like insane of like, hey, have we not learned from history of like if we idolize one person, if we want to put one person to the movement, it's gonna crack and break. But there's all this stuff about um Martin Luther King Jr. who cheated on his wife. And people are like, well, we should like we should you know, he cheated on his wife. And it's like yes, yeah. So maybe we don't maybe we think about the movement and the things that he was fighting for. Right.
SPEAKER_02I didn't know he cheated on his wife. This is news to me.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I hate to break that to you, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh, really?
SPEAKER_06But it's not to say like, uh, I think that's probably like we're gonna let men that one slide over.
SPEAKER_04In in the lieu of the Dugger and the Duggers and the Chavez's of them grouping those together. Okay.
SPEAKER_06We're not gonna cheating out his wife, we're gonna let that one.
SPEAKER_04Apparently, after the investigation began into his, you know, C D pass. Yeah, six sixty people came forward and had similar allegations. Sixty individuals. You know what?
SPEAKER_06And that's and that's where I'm like, man, like someone who wielded their power. Like, that's so that's what happens with these like these like these situation assault is people have these positions of power, and the fact that they're powerful by any means, and that there's like like that is gonna silence these people, even if they say like, oh yeah, you can tell people, like, no, they have they have a position of power over them.
SPEAKER_04This is like ASMR, but there's a dog in the background. Have you seen those? It's like podcasting, but there's a dog outside. Come here, you forgot to end the episode. Don't worry about it. That's totally fine. Don't please just let me be under the table. So um let's talk about it one more time.
SPEAKER_06Do you think that we're Sky Ball bad, um, the Duggars, bad, Caesar Chavez, bad.
SPEAKER_04I I like it. We can wrap it up in a little boat. To be fair, this was a crazy day for the news.
SPEAKER_02I was like, I don't think I knew why Caesar Chavez was bad.
SPEAKER_06So he basically helped. In your defense, I kind of didn't know either. Oh, really? I always knew he was a crazy. It started with like um the migrant farm workers that would come in for like the grapes in San Diego. Like he basically created rights for these farm workers and like almost like a union for them so that they would have they basically weren't just being used as slave labor.
SPEAKER_02Celebrate the unions. Hot take, I bet that woman was the real power behind that.
SPEAKER_06Absolutely.
SPEAKER_04And a lot of people are saying we should move towards like making her and the other there was like three or four other prominent women like in the movement with him.
SPEAKER_02Come on, ladies. Come on, ladies. Come on, come on, queens. Give me their names. I'll start celebrating their days any day.
SPEAKER_06And you know, I I should have known, like, man, the allegations must have a reliable source. Because they start the city started bagging up statues of him. Yeah, all across the country. People were like, the cities were like, take the statue down now. Now it down now.
SPEAKER_02Guess what you're doing? Go get the statue from my.
SPEAKER_06Think of how hard it was like it went back and forth forever about Robert E. Lee.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_06They're like, no, keep it up. No, take it down. No, keep it up. Caesar Thomas, this comes out, it's like, take it down.
SPEAKER_04No confirmed enemy of the state, Robert E. Lee. We have we have schools named after him. Are you kidding me? He led the defense against the union. What are we doing?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, certified America hater.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I don't know. Think about how long it takes to get anything done in the city, and like the same day they have somebody tearing down the C.
SPEAKER_04Can you imagine if there was like sexual assault things, like, I don't know, allegations against our president or something like that? Wouldn't that be crazy? Crazy. I mean, how think of how swiftly the government would move at that point.
SPEAKER_06Dad, you'd have to be dead for 30 years for them to do anything about it.
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna kill myself. Um, hi everybody. No, but a joke, by the way. Hi, everybody. Uh this show is brought to you by Patreon! Hey, shout out to our Patreon supporters.
