SPEAKER_01

Did I ever tell you about my Ice Age 2 story? When I was um hold on one time. Let's go. Alright. Back at it again with the white vans. Daniel. Damn, Daniel. I just remembered the first part of that. Hi, everybody. Welcome back to What the Podcast. I'm Ryan.

SPEAKER_02

I'm John.

SPEAKER_01

Together we are in the Bluuth. Joining us, my lovely wife, Garrett Defoya. My unborn child. Who's also with her.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

That was my opening of Diet Coke. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, you did say you were going to add that every week, but.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, just a.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think that much Diet Coke is good for you anyway, so No.

SPEAKER_00

That's okay.

SPEAKER_01

Totally cool. I was moments ago watching a trailer for a new Ice Age movie. What's your best guess of how many Ice Age movies there are?

SPEAKER_02

Um five.

SPEAKER_01

You think there's five Ice Age movies?

SPEAKER_02

I think there's five.

SPEAKER_01

I was just marveling the other day about how we're getting another Toy Story movie this week. A new Toy Story movie's coming out. Uh I guess next week. It's coming out next Friday.

SPEAKER_02

Did they make a big deal about the fourth one being the last one?

SPEAKER_01

They made a big deal, thank you for asking, about the third one being the last one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like the big final movie, and then they did another one, and then it was like another like big final movie. And then it's like it's like they don't know if they're gonna get renewed for the season or something.

SPEAKER_02

It's like Tim Allen losing the Buzz Lightyear voice.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

I heard him talk about it. He's like, I lost it, and then I went to I I went to the vocal coach and we and we found it again. I'm like, what?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, did you watch the whole thing? His the vocal coach that they flew out from New York was an opera singer literally told him he needed to just need to warm up. He needs to warm up his vocal coach.

SPEAKER_01

He's old. He can't just jump right into the voice anymore. Warm-up, but he was doing la la la la la la.

SPEAKER_00

Any voiceover actor knows that.

SPEAKER_01

There is currently five.

SPEAKER_02

He's kind of like a guy that's a famous guy that also did voiceovers.

SPEAKER_01

I think you're right. There's currently five installments of Ice Age with a new one coming out next year. We have Ice Age, we have Ice Age the Meltdown, we have Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Ice Age Continental Drift, and Ice Age Collision Course. I think I've seen one of these movies.

SPEAKER_02

The first one. The first one. Same. Let's watch them all.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. You want to do an Ice Age uh marathon leading up to the newest one?

SPEAKER_02

And then we'll go see the new one together.

SPEAKER_01

Me and my wife recently watched Madagascar. You remember that movie, that classic?

SPEAKER_02

I do. I remember the game more than I remember the movie, but were you playing it on PlayStation?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, PlayStation Game. I was playing it on the GameCube. And the best. You escaped the zoo? The best part of that game is when you're the penguins on the boat. When you're like, Rico, we gotta, you know, avoid these guys on the boat.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and then I remember the giraffe in the city having to like navigate the city as the giraffe, which is interesting. Dude, I played the hell out of that game. The zebra was getting out of the zoo initially, right? Marty.

SPEAKER_01

It was definitely one of those like collect a thon games where you're just like getting little cans of soda or whatever, running around the park, and then you were like a lemur. I don't know if you were ever a lemur, actually, but you were definitely the hippo that was like barreling through walls and stuff. Yeah, exactly. Which is crazy, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Tonight we die.

SPEAKER_01

Pretty funny. Pretty funny. But that's great. I wouldn't be surprised if we get another Madagascar installment at some point.

SPEAKER_00

We won't because it was Jada Pinkett Smith and Chris Rock. And Chris Rock.

SPEAKER_01

Can you believe that? Yeah. I don't know if they ever hung out during press for that movie.

SPEAKER_02

No, they're friends. They're all friends.

SPEAKER_01

Are they? You think they're friends? That was on the book. I think they're friends. I think definitely not. Um is Will making a comeback? I just saw him at like Press for a Thing. Don't burn the I thought it was gonna go right through the hole.

SPEAKER_02

I was trying to get it oxygen without the fan blowing it out, but it's not big enough.

SPEAKER_01

It probably well, the hole's not big enough?

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_01

Candle problems. I'll tell you what.

SPEAKER_02

I think it was all I I know it was probably ser real in the moment, but I think they're all over it now.

SPEAKER_01

You think they had a follow-up phone call that was like Chris, it's me, Will. Sorry about that. Like, isn't it great that we're both still millionaires?

SPEAKER_02

I think Chris knows to some degree that the whole Jada Pickett Smith and Will Smith thing is so backwards. Like their whole relationship is so weird. Right.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm like I don't know. That's a pretty embarrassing like moment. Like that they're both for the rest of their careers tied to this moment that happened at the Oscars. Whether it was I don't think it was like a planned moment, but whether or not it's like a big deal is like Well, he's banned from the Oscars for like 10 years.

SPEAKER_02

I thought it was five.

SPEAKER_01

They did a 10-year ban, and it's already been just touch your memory.

SPEAKER_02

How long ago was that?

SPEAKER_01

I want to say that was 2022. I'm gonna say It wasn't twenty twenty-one.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna say it was twenty twenty-three.

SPEAKER_01

You think it was three years ago now? Early. It was yeah. February.

SPEAKER_00

Oscars are February?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, very good.

SPEAKER_02

Ah, the Oscars slap refers to the infamous incident on March 27th of 2022. Thank you. Where actress actor Will Smith walked onto the stage of the 94th Academy Awards and slab presenter Chris Rock across the face.

SPEAKER_00

There's an episode of Love on the Spectrum. So if it is five years, is he almost like where one of the girls she talks about, she's like, did it say five years? Yeah, I've learned how to like how to turn this part of my brain off and like use the like thinking brain. And she goes, Will Smith didn't do that. He didn't turn on his thinking brain.

SPEAKER_01

You know, injecting some pop culture in the conversation. That was pretty funny.

SPEAKER_00

And the the mom is dying in the corner. And the mom was like, because she's like, Yeah, it's like when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, and the mom's like, And why do you think he did that? And she goes, He didn't turn on his thinking brain.

SPEAKER_01

Dang. She's like, I'm like him, like Will Smith. I have to turn on my thinking brain.

SPEAKER_02

Random fact about brains that I uh came across this week. I was learning about I was watching something about orcas. Oh, it was the orca that she lost her baby. So and she um kept pushing it for 17 days, like kept keep kept it above for four like kept it. Oh, yes, yes, yes, for 17 days because she was grieving. And um, but anyways, in that whole scenario, it was saying that orcas are really emotional animals, and I was also I also always wondered how they sleep, and I guess this happens with a lot of aquatic animals, but they're they can sp they can turn off half their brain and they keep the other half uh uh active because they they're they're um conscious breathers. Meaning like they have to choose when to breathe. If they don't think about it, if their brain isn't like if they don't if they're not actively thinking about it, they'll stop breathing. Like they act they actually have to think about breathing. So they turn off half their brain to sleep and they slow down their movement, and then they turn then they switch every s every couple of hours. That was so fascinating. Also, how do we know that?

SPEAKER_01

That's what I was wondering.

SPEAKER_02

How do we know that?

SPEAKER_00

Marine biologists doing studies probably on how do you study some like uh cork carcasses and burning.

SPEAKER_01

Did they put a like a EKG on him or a or a CAT scan type of thing?

SPEAKER_00

I'm sure there's something.

SPEAKER_01

That was a thing, that was a thing on the pit where they were like they had to take this guy because this was like a super overweight guy, and he wasn't gonna fit in their CAT scan machine, their MRI machine, and so they took him to a vet, a nearby vet, because they had a gigantic one that they use for animals and stuff, like horse, a horse MRI, which is like obviously embarrassing to the guy. But he was like, he was like, I'm so sorry, like just do whatever you gotta do. Like, thank you guys for saving my life, and it's like something you don't really think about, like accessibility in that situation. Like the MRI is not big enough. It's like, damn, that sucks. Um I was just watching we we were talking about this yesterday where we take we turned off our me and Kara have turned off our AMC stubby subscription RIP and I've completely lost track of movies that I used to be like I could tell you what movie was coming out, in how many weeks, how long they've been doing press for it, and you know, six months ago we canceled our subscription. I couldn't tell you a single movie. Now I'm like, okay, this Toy Story movie's coming out next week. That's news to me. The one that I'm tracking is this Odyssey movie. This Christopher Nolan. Yeah, tell me what's coming out. But I was just watching this thing on their website, it's showing you the different aspect ratios because the whole thing is they're shooting this in IMAX 70 millimeter, which is like the largest format for a movie.

SPEAKER_02

Not just like Oppenheimer was shot in that one, right?

SPEAKER_01

It was yes, exactly. But there Oppenheimer, there was parts of the movie that was filmed. This movie is like completely in IM. Well, actually, no, that was Christopher Nolan too, wasn't it? That might have been all filmed on 70 millimeter.

SPEAKER_02

Um a controversy around Oppenheimer, people don't are are like intentionally not seeing it.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_02

I just was talking to a friend that they're like, oh, I I I chose not to see Oppenheimer. I'm like, why? Like, I don't know, it just doesn't sit right with me. And I'm like, what?

SPEAKER_00

I mean because of the nuclear.

SPEAKER_01

Because it it does kind of glorify like I mean the whole point of Oppenheimer was he didn't want to do it. Like he was like, I I you know, I made this technology, and then once it was in the world, he was like he's he dedicated the rest of his life to like not uh being anti-current. Did he make a lot of money off of it or no? Christopher Nolan or No, the Oppenheimer. I'm sure he didn't. I mean, I don't know what money was like. He they probably yeah, gave him some shillings or something. 1940s money. They're like, we'll give you a whole $5,000 for creating nuke, creating the technology that made the nuke.

SPEAKER_00

Sorry.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, go ahead.

SPEAKER_00

I love boosters.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Don't know. All I know is I think I see Kiki Palmer. Mortal Kombat 2. Love Passenger.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I didn't see the first one. Passenger? Passenger scary. Tuner?

SPEAKER_00

Sheep Detective?

SPEAKER_02

Sheep Detective is good, right? I heard that's great. Did you see it?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Train spotting's old, right?

SPEAKER_01

Train spotting is an old movie. Yep. Must be an open anniversary. It's probably an anniversary moment.

SPEAKER_00

Um The Last Whale Tuner is a kid's one out.

SPEAKER_01

He plays a heroin addict in the 90s. Great movie. Very sad.

SPEAKER_00

Um Carolina Caroline.

SPEAKER_01

Don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Devil Wars Prada 2. Pressure.

SPEAKER_01

Did you catch that one?

SPEAKER_02

See, this is No, but I want to see Caleb Heron.

SPEAKER_01

It was so ingrained in my personality, and now it's like, what am I?

SPEAKER_02

I think you need a better personality. I wouldn't recommend it now because you're about to have a baby. But I think after Well, summertime movies.

SPEAKER_00

Sure.

SPEAKER_02

I think you should try again because personally, I think if you had a healthier outlook on it, like mine is very close. Mine's very open hand with the AMC. Like I I know it's a pressure if you're paying money for it.

SPEAKER_01

Every month.

SPEAKER_02

But in my ballad.

SPEAKER_01

Don't know.

SPEAKER_02

In my head, I go through seasons where hey, it's one month I see four movies. Like June, I've seen two movies. That's great. And one was IMAX, and I found out IMAX movies are like $21.

SPEAKER_01

They are, they're more expensive. That's why. And even the when you go to Mission Valley or those theaters that have the Dolby kind of extra, that's kind of what you're buying into too.

SPEAKER_02

I think I need to do in one high format a month, and I think I'm I'm fine with it. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_01

I think for the Odyssey, I'd really like to road trip up to see in Irvine, they have the Spectrum Center, and it's like the closest one. There's a couple of theaters around the country.

SPEAKER_02

There's a couple in there's one in San Diego, isn't there?

SPEAKER_01

It doesn't play full IMAX 70 millimeter.

SPEAKER_02

Where do we go for Oppenheimer? Because there was one where it was like Grossmont Center.

SPEAKER_01

They played the format, but it was just like 35mm. Yeah. Sad for San Diego news.

SPEAKER_00

Which it's gonna be a Regal or an AMC.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna say they're gonna do a whole remote. It's like a year ago on the mall.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

They're like the whole mall is like getting an insane facelift.

SPEAKER_01

It should. Yeah. I I wouldn't be upset if Antie took it over. Yeah, come on to me. I saw him doing some press. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I watched The Whale one random day, and that was a pretty depressing movie.

SPEAKER_01

You just chose to watch it on a random day. I heard it's depressing.

SPEAKER_02

I've been so I've been kind of doing this thing where I when I think of a movie that I wanted to see that I didn't get to see in theaters, I will just rant watch it on a random weekday.

SPEAKER_01

I get that.

SPEAKER_02

Because I'm like, I feel like, and this is you can tell me if you feel this too, but especially as a as a subby, I'm like, if I didn't see it in theaters, I feel like it's such a missed opportunity. But then I'm going, you know what? And I here's the thing you don't have to watch movies. You can choose how you interact with movies. I feel like you there are movies you go to theaters you watch intentionally, and I think a lot of movies, I would say 80% of movies, are m things that you just put on in the background while you're doing something. And that's that is you watching it. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_01

I don't feel that.

SPEAKER_00

I don't do yeah, I don't do that. Really? Oh wow.

SPEAKER_01

I definitely well we'll we'll put on TV in the background when we were just doing something, but lately, no, it's been like radio on the background.

SPEAKER_02

I watched that one about the crazy, it was with um what's her name? She's the main actress in Easy A, which is a really good one. Yeah, I watched that casually while I was working, and I loved it. Good. I had to rewind a couple times.

SPEAKER_01

I see I I just have to be fully engaged in the movie that I'm watching. And this is I I get it in I get into it with Annie all the time because Annie's like, yeah, I'll listen to it. I won't watch it, I'll just completely listen to it. That which just baffles me.

SPEAKER_02

Listening to it without having it like in a in a visible is crazy to me. It's crazy. And I know I'm like one step away by not really watching.

SPEAKER_00

Even if it's a movie I've seen a bunch of times before, even when I get up and get water, I still pause it.

SPEAKER_01

But I think you're right. I mean, people can interact with media however they want. You can you can do that. And you can watch a movie.

SPEAKER_02

My new show, TV show, is Boston Legal.

SPEAKER_01

Boston Legal. Don't know it. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

William Shatner and uh James Bader when they're young. Real okay. And they're lawyers. It's kind of like the old version of suits. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I've seen suits.

SPEAKER_02

Um, and it reminds me how different early 2000s TV was. Like the pacing or the music, the little bad bow bow bow. Like like the Seinfeld like fills at the end of every scene.

SPEAKER_01

Is it like a classic like three-camera sitcom?

SPEAKER_02

Like look it up. It's not a sitcom, but it's it again, it it is suits in the early 2000s, personally. What's the show called? Boston Legal. Boston Legal. But James Spader has like hair and he's like young. There he is, sure enough. And it is fascinating. Like William Chatner, by the way, I think he's kinda I I don't know if it's the role or if it to me is he seems like a very campy actor. Yeah. Like, I don't think he can play a sincere, genuine. Until you watch this show. No, no, no, same. Same on the show. Because he's kind of like, I'm Danny Crane. And like, because he's he's he's one of the main guys. But James Bader is just so awesome.

SPEAKER_01

William Shatner is 95 years old. Is he in the Deadpool this year?

SPEAKER_02

He is. No, he's not. But you know, he he I also saw a video of him because I'm watching Boston. They go my little FBI agents, like, Oh, you like William Shatter? Turn it on. Yep. Um, I saw a video of him at like some signing events, like it was like a Comic-Con style thing. And someone's like, What was your favorite part of filming uh Star Trek? And he goes, Lunch. And he signs it, and then he that was it. And I was like, Oh, and the comments are like, he's so written. Everyone's like, if you were 94 and you were at a signing event, how would you do that? For the same show 60 years later. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know what? Screw that guy, because uh Harrison Ford does that same bit, and I'm like, just you know, read the card, man. Okay, just love it. That's what gave you your career.

SPEAKER_00

But that's that's right.

SPEAKER_02

That's the old that's the big thing for me.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like, but literally no.

SPEAKER_01

Literally 1966, he's been doing for uh 60 years, he's been talking about the same show. So whatever. 70 years. Wait, 66, 40, 20, 26, 60 years.

SPEAKER_02

So I mean it was it was from 2004 to 2008. It was an early 2000s show, but it's just like even James Bader, he's and you know James Bader's a great actor.

SPEAKER_01

James Bader looks like he's aged. William Channer, however, looks the same when he did this show that he does now.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and James Spader, like he's just like, you know, we know he's a good actor. Like he's he's just incredible. Also, he's like kind of a hermit, I heard. Is he? Like he doesn't do he does he does press that he's like legally obligated to but he limits his press and he's very private about his private life.

SPEAKER_01

Six six years old on blacklist. I feel like everything he does is kind of weird. Yes, a little bit weird.

SPEAKER_02

My favorite when he was a little bit when he was Ultron in Avengers. He was. I didn't know that until after I watched Blacklist, and I went back and I was like, oh.

SPEAKER_01

That's gotta be some of the best voice acting.

SPEAKER_02

Like, oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Definitely in a Marvel movie, some of the best acting.

SPEAKER_02

He he is incredible. Yeah, he's great. And but in Blacklist, he it's like his monologue show. Like every episode has this really epic monologue, and I just think he's fantastic. He's so good. Same with Martin, um, Martin Sheen or Martin Yeah, is it Martin Sheen?

SPEAKER_01

Martin Sheen.

SPEAKER_02

Martin Sheen in um show that I watch. What why am I blanking on that?

SPEAKER_01

Uh the West Wing. West Wing, yeah. The West Wing is your show. Yeah. Um I haven't watched it in a while. I'm doing just a quick sweep of the news right now. Trump is trying to uh do some fun fun things.

SPEAKER_02

He's like remodeling Did the fight at the DC at the White House ever happen? Fight at the White House? The UFC fight at the White House.

SPEAKER_01

Oh I think they're still gearing up for it. But he is saying he's claimed today that the Lincoln Memorial is facing the wrong way. So he What does that mean?

SPEAKER_00

Why is it facing the wrong way? Why is there a reason?

SPEAKER_01

He's he wants to maybe move it or or redo it. Good luck with that. The Lincoln Memorial is facing the wrong way as he floats. Latest icon upgrade. You know, it's an upgrade. He just he wants to turn it. It's not facing the right way.

SPEAKER_02

Trump seems to have all the priorities that don't matter.

SPEAKER_01

It's so weird.

SPEAKER_02

It's like, what?

SPEAKER_01

The Freedom 250 concert that he was planning uh is cancelled.

SPEAKER_00

What was that?

SPEAKER_01

He's replacing it with it was a fourth of July. It was a birthday party for him, but all of the music acts are pulling out.

SPEAKER_00

Carrie Underwood.

SPEAKER_01

Everybody has pulled out. And now they're turning it into what they're calling the greatest rally ever. Starring him and Lee Greenwood. Okay. Who is the I believe that's the MyPillow guy? Oh no, Lee Greenwood. Who's that?

unknown

Old time.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Dropping it. No more. I don't know. It's exhausting. He fell asleep in a meeting today at the White House.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I know there's a lot going there's still a lot going on in the world at this point in time, but I feel like it is a relatively quieter time in like the world stage right now. Like we're not in any major wars.

SPEAKER_01

Like I know we are in some conflicts, but Iran is still pretty aggressively happening.

SPEAKER_02

But I'm like, I just am glad that we're not like in a full-fledged war with with Trump, like a world world war, you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_01

Because like you just imagine he's still on the I feel like we're on our way there because of the Middle East situation. Oh, for sure. The Israel, Palestine, Iran, all of those moving pieces with Russia. I feel like we're just sometimes I read the news, I'm like, we're just days away from that, like spilling it into nonsense because that's how these things start, man. Yeah. Nobody cared who Franz Ferdinand was, you know, the Archduke, and then he got killed, and then it was like, okay, great, we're good, good to go. World war, let's go. So I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know either, but we're probably on our way. Imagine, I just I guess I hope I don't see it, but I just can't imagine Trump in like a like a world war.

SPEAKER_01

Like a in like a really serious city.

SPEAKER_02

Like, could you imagine having to deal with that guy when it's like, oh yeah, we're we're like basically in a all hands-on deck, you know, world war situation.

SPEAKER_00

I want to start a world war on car prices.

SPEAKER_02

Oh wow. Did you did you hear that? Did you sell your car?

SPEAKER_00

I sold my car.

SPEAKER_02

For how much? Can you give the figure?

SPEAKER_00

$9,500. Come on in now.

SPEAKER_01

Come on now. Dinner's on a mess. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Uh they said there was an oil leak starting to happen, so he had to take off $500.

SPEAKER_01

You heard about the Irvine situation. Whatever. Irvine. We drove all the way up to Irvine, paid for our Uber. Yeah. Not us. They did. So whatever. But you know, that was part of the deal in the first place. You get up there and it's like we've been having a hard time selling the cars.

SPEAKER_00

What happened to all the little guys? Oh, they're in a bag ready for their next home.

SPEAKER_01

They're in a bag ready for their next home.

SPEAKER_02

Just imagine. Was it hard to take off some of the little guys? The adhesives? Oh, really?

SPEAKER_00

I just use putty. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Emotionally it was, definitely. Emotionally, it sucked.

SPEAKER_02

Because Kara Yes. How big of a bag are we talking?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, it's like a it's a mini bag goo. A little it's large. A little bag. It's large, large.

SPEAKER_02

It's large.

SPEAKER_00

It does have it has my license plates in it, like my covers. Oh wow. Like I had.

SPEAKER_02

John, you're a sentimental person. I am a sentimental person for sure.

SPEAKER_01

Kara sold her car, and I was it was really brave of her, and I'm proud of her because yeah, she's a sentimental person.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, I think cars, we don't we underestimate how much time and how much you know you spent a lot of time in your car.

SPEAKER_01

You spent a lot of time in your car.

SPEAKER_00

I know you know I didn't cry like getting rid of my first car though.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah, your bug.

SPEAKER_01

When she sold the bug, that was devastating.

SPEAKER_00

No, I surrendered it to the state.

SPEAKER_01

Whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Surrendered it to the state.

SPEAKER_00

And I got more money than I paid for it.

SPEAKER_02

It's like when you s your dog, you send your dog to a farm. Surrendered it to the farm. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I still say someone's still driving my bug out there.

SPEAKER_01

It's the same thing. It's like they sent him out to pasture.

SPEAKER_00

I know it.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, alright. I can feel it in my soul. Someone's driving the bug.

SPEAKER_01

Feel it in my bug. I know she's a mama. It's like um.

SPEAKER_00

We could have gotten it fixed if we wanted to.

SPEAKER_01

Who's the girl on the news that her mom got kidnapped? She's like, I know she's out there somewhere. Oh. We're gonna find her. It's like that boat with her car.

SPEAKER_02

So you uh you took all the little guys down and they're they're probably crying because they don't have a spot at this point. And of course, when you get the new car, they're all going back. And you want an old school R R C V C V R cert C R V. Rap4. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

She's changed her tune. She wants a RAV4. That's why you're sat in trouble with car prices.

SPEAKER_00

We went and sat in new car prices suck. I don't want a new car.

SPEAKER_01

She's looking for an old car. We're gonna have Facebook marketplace it, I think. Or like use car lot type beat. Are you are you guys in the street? We went and sat in the back of a uh what's it, cross? So there's a Toyota Cross.

SPEAKER_00

It's called the like the baby of the RAV 4, and it's like everyone's like, this is out there, and no one really realized it's called the Corolla Cross. Really cute. It looks like a CRV. You open the back, and with the two like you remember driving in the Yaris, how small the backseat was.

SPEAKER_01

It was the same, same as the backseat.

SPEAKER_00

Exact same backseat.

SPEAKER_02

You can't have that.

SPEAKER_01

Can't have that.

SPEAKER_00

And we were like, how is this car bigger or something? Are people driving this thing around? Still just as small. Single people, maybe still just as much back trunk space.

SPEAKER_01

You need a back seat for that uh that baby car seat. Yeah, it made no sense. Yeah. So we're looking at RAMs.

SPEAKER_02

You're really looking at like, if you think about this car, I mean, you buy used a little bit different, but with this car, you're looking, and when we bought Jordan's car, we were like, this is the car that's gonna be young family. Like a couple of kids, couple of car seats, transition to boosters, and then she'll probably get a different car at that point. So that's you're kind of in the same realm. It's like you're looking for your young, my kids are small car. Which that means strollers, that means car seats, exactly, eventually a wagon, maybe, you know, like a collapsible wagon. You need some space for that. Yep. He's got a point.

SPEAKER_01

When I die, just buckle me into Goldie and drive it off a cliff. No, I'm gonna go. Because I I want to go with Goldie.

SPEAKER_02

We'll dig a big hole and we'll bury you in Goldie. That would be great.

SPEAKER_01

Bury me in Goldie. Thank you. I love that car, it's not going anywhere. I thought of it more, but thought I'm holding it in. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_02

No, no, no. But you already have that car, so you're good.

SPEAKER_01

I know. Well, if I have my way, I'd have two. I'd have one Goldie and one silvery.

SPEAKER_02

One silvery.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

She can pick the color, obviously. Awesome. Sienna Gang. You guys, hold on. That's actually a great idea.

SPEAKER_01

We don't have the parking for it, man. Are you kidding? That's true.

SPEAKER_00

Also, I can't parallel park that car. Yeah. I can't do it.

SPEAKER_01

Can't do it. We'll have to build one of those parking stretches.

SPEAKER_00

It's so hard. I can do it when there's no cars.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Hey. I thought about your car. I love your car, man. Yeah, it's a great car, man. It's so cool.

SPEAKER_01

You know, when I had to sell the uh big red, that was a devastating video as well.

SPEAKER_02

There's a big red here in Tantee for sale. I can see it every time. I drive it by every work, every day on the way to work. I go.

SPEAKER_01

What are they asking for it?

SPEAKER_02

Um, okay, I'm I'm looking as I'm passing. They're probably not even selling it. It looks like six six thousand something. That's great. Buy it. But I don't I don't know the exact details on it.

SPEAKER_01

Not super flesh. I'm cash, right?

SPEAKER_02

I, you know, I'll tell you what. I'm not in the market for this type of vehicle, but I have been kind of searching around because I think it's fascinating. A little tiny baby motorhome like van conversion.

SPEAKER_01

How fun would that be to camera? Do you see that guy on TikTok that's uh flipping a a U-Haul? Yes. Yes, I saw it just today. Yes. Yes, cut the windows out of it. Yeah. Awesome. Awesome.

SPEAKER_02

I think it'd be kind of cool because I'm not trying to live out of a van, but obviously. But I do think like, and I I don't think I'm quite there yet. When I I want to get into a space where my kids are like walking, maybe they're potty trained. They're but they're like, you know, they're they're like probably between three and seven.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And I want to go camping. And I want to like and you see, you can do that in a tent. That's no problem.

SPEAKER_01

You can go tent camping, sure.

SPEAKER_02

But I'm like, how fun would it be? I'm not I'm never I don't think I'm ever gonna own an RV.

SPEAKER_00

You want to get a Volkswagen bus for 11 grand.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yes. Manual. Why don't you get it? Is it running? That's fine. Why don't you get it?

SPEAKER_00

It's running.

SPEAKER_01

Carol, we can run it.

SPEAKER_00

It doesn't say how many miles on it, though.

SPEAKER_01

My dad could teach you stick shift. No problem. No problem.

SPEAKER_02

You can't park that. That's gonna be way too hard. I know. Oh but you're parking in the driveway.

SPEAKER_01

This guy's a dream. Wait. Wait. Oh, send that to me. Send that to me.

SPEAKER_02

I just think it'd be kind of cool. I see a little tiny, little tiny RV bands. I think they're awesome.

SPEAKER_00

This one's 13,000 with only 78,000 miles on it.

SPEAKER_02

So cool. So cool. Don't you wish you have 13 grand just for inside of that?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh that's a podcast studio right there.

SPEAKER_01

Wow, you could do a little podcast camping. Dang.

SPEAKER_02

I do think we should camp this summer.

SPEAKER_01

Do you do a lot of camping with your uh parents growing up?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, my parents did primarily beach camping because my grandparents did that. But my my dad my parents had, and I and I was I see these too occasionally, the pop-up ones. Yeah. Little trailer, and it goes, yes, and then it's all netting, and you put out the the you you push out the little things and it's got little platforms and stuff. I have so many memories in that. I remember rolling up the little windows, it's like netting though, and um you could just smell the ocean waking up in a crisp morning. Awesome. I got stung by a bee in there one time.

SPEAKER_01

That wasn't necessarily the memes, the memories. My tattoo artist has a not anymore. Yeah, the airstream.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, airstream.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, my mom's calling me.

SPEAKER_00

I thought you meant the Volkswagen. I don't know what she wants.

unknown

I'll call her back.

SPEAKER_02

I think I think it's I think we should do that. We just do a little camping training.

SPEAKER_01

I love a little little tin can. What do they call those? Canned ham? Little airstream, like trailers.

SPEAKER_00

Teardrop.

SPEAKER_01

Not that not too. Those are so cool. Yeah, let's do it, man. I'm down. Let's do a little camping moment. I think so. You gotta talk to uh the guy with the RV.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I do.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. Give him a lot.

SPEAKER_02

We're gonna figure out how to get a spot at Coronado because that that's really what we need to do. It's hard. Well, he gets like notified. He gets notified because he's he's he's gone a bunch of time, so like he snags spots.

SPEAKER_00

I've only been into Silver Strand. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what we're talking about. Silver Strand.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Silver Strand.

SPEAKER_00

You gotta be military, right?

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_00

Silver Strand, you had to be military.

SPEAKER_01

I think if you were gonna camp on the base, maybe.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Oh.

SPEAKER_01

I think there's camping spots there.

SPEAKER_02

And then my mother-in-law goes to um gosh. I'm losing it. It's up north, like like 30 minutes.

SPEAKER_01

South Carlsbow State Beach?

SPEAKER_02

No, it's the other one. It's um it's along a beach, but I can't remember what it's called. The boobies. It's close to the boobies.

SPEAKER_01

It's uh what's that what's that over there?

SPEAKER_02

What is it over there? Tell me.

SPEAKER_01

I want to say San Luis Obispo, but it's not that.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly. That's what I'm thinking too, but it's not that.

SPEAKER_01

Um San Onofre.

SPEAKER_02

San Onofre. Come on. We did it. San Enofre. Look at that guy. I'm just saying, I want to camp.

SPEAKER_01

I love my hype, man. Thank you. Good job. Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, let's do it. Let's do it. Let's do an episode from camping. I would love that.

SPEAKER_01

Um, so what's up, what else is going on? Obviously, no Annie here. We haven't really talked about that. I haven't mentioned that. She's working on it.

SPEAKER_02

She's not gonna like that. Goodbye. She's got two jobs. Annie's actually no longer with us on the show.

SPEAKER_01

Oh.

SPEAKER_02

This is perfect because we'll be gone for two weeks.

SPEAKER_01

And nobody will know. No one will know.

SPEAKER_02

She's no longer with us on the show. She went on Instagram, rant saying a lot of vulgar things, and we no longer can partner her with her on the show here, too.

SPEAKER_01

I was just watching Ted Danson talk about his blackface moment. Have you seen the blackface? Yes. Whoopi Goldberg's. This was the roast. The roast of Whoopi Goldberg. They were dating. In the early 2000s. And he did like not just blackface, he did like old timey, like And he brought out watermelon. Like when they have the big red lips and like he did. The clown. Yeah. What do they call that? When it's like um I don't know. He did blackface, like really badly.

SPEAKER_00

When you say that, I think of Dumbo. Yes, exactly. I think of the Dumbo makeup.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Where it's like not that blackface. It's like um white lips. What's his name? Al something.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Al Jolson. It's like v r really rough. Bad makeup. Bad. Like that. Yeah, the white lips. Oh.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Dumbo. Yeah, it was really nice.

SPEAKER_01

That's not Dumbo. Dumbo is the crows.

SPEAKER_02

This is before they were.

SPEAKER_01

It was kind of more like it was like a thing that they did. And he was talking about it very like I don't want to say uncaring, but he was like talking about it on this podcast, and he was like, Yeah, you know, like I've talked to her about it, and she knows how like where my heart was in the moment, and obviously I'm not racist, and but this is a thing we did because we were trying to like get out of it. They didn't want to do the roast, and so he was like, What's the most ridiculous thing I could do to like basically get back at the at the um the network? And so he did blackface and they just like ripped it apart. Obviously, their relationship was scrutinized so strongly because you know, uh at the time it was even like still I feel like people are weird about interracial relationships, but when was it it was just yeah, like late nineties, I think.

SPEAKER_00

So during Little Rascals?

SPEAKER_01

Just tore it apart, you know, tore them apart. Yeah. We just watched Little Rascals the other night. Really? Um, but it was just weird to hear him talk about it, like just so like, eh, well, what can you do? Like, it was a different time. It's like it wasn't the 1930s, it was like 30 years ago.

SPEAKER_00

Definitely not okay.

SPEAKER_02

Not at all.

SPEAKER_00

It was a time where TV aired it.

SPEAKER_01

He's like, he's like, yeah, I'm gonna be apologizing for this for the rest of my life. They just keep it.

SPEAKER_02

It's like you weren't putting him in in little Netflix sitcommy heat.

SPEAKER_01

It's just so darn charming, is the problem. I love some Ted Dancing.

SPEAKER_02

His um new one is Man on the Inside. Yeah. I watched the first season of that. And it's like basically the good place, but slightly different. It has like the same like feel and shots, and like the it's exactly the good place, just with different set of actors, basically. Never saw that show.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe I should watch it.

SPEAKER_00

Really sweet though. So good.

SPEAKER_01

I am gonna start Modern Family, I think, because it's on my list. I know, I know. I know. I know, I know you'd love it.

SPEAKER_02

I'm one of those people who knew of Modern Family when it was on TV and thought it was so dumb. Same with um White Collar and with uh what's the other Royal Pains? Do you remember Royal Pain's?

SPEAKER_01

Royal Pains, I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

It was a Doctor in the Beverly Hills. I saw all the shows commercials when I was a kid watching TV, and I was like, those shows are dumb. And then the last 10 years I watched them all, I think they're great.

SPEAKER_01

You're like my parents liked it. It wasn't for me when I was a kid.

SPEAKER_00

It was always on the TV.

SPEAKER_02

Modern Family has such a nuance. And when you think about when you also get a chance to like, you'll you'll when you start watching it, you'll get a bunch of media on it. But um, they like were really groundbreaking on TV. Like they were the first people to broadcast uh a gay wedding and a show.

SPEAKER_01

I remember stuff like that happening. Like I remember that being a big deal.

SPEAKER_00

Sofia Vergara relationship with the not like attractive man.

SPEAKER_01

The whole thing was supposed to be like non-tradition the modern family.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Whoever's I thought it was I mean, it and it it really was an incredible show. That the very end of the series when you watched it on Netflix or wherever you're watching it, they shoot like a documentary of the last episode and they talk about the run of the show and how and it was that is actually I think almost better than the last episode personally. But yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's like really brings it all together.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they talk about they take we take this photo of like the casting when they finalized the cast, and they all those kids were just like little tiny kids. We have a friend whose son was almost um Sophia Figuara's like little son when it's born on the show. Yeah. He we have a friend whose son was like in the last three for that role.

SPEAKER_01

Dang.

SPEAKER_02

And then didn't get it. Didn't get it. I didn't get it.

SPEAKER_01

Became an alcoholic, super young. I remember the talking. Gave up his career.

SPEAKER_02

I I didn't watch Modern Family, so I was like, oh, okay. Like I didn't think it was that big of a deal. Now that I watched the show, I'm like, oh my god, like that's crazy.

SPEAKER_00

That's so funny.

SPEAKER_02

If that had been who the person we know, but not the character Miguel.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_00

It was like the second baby, right?

SPEAKER_02

The bait the little guy. Okay, spoilers. What's his name? They have a kid and it's a kid's I don't know. I don't remember.

SPEAKER_01

No, Manny is the kid.

SPEAKER_02

No, it's the other kid, but there's another kid.

SPEAKER_00

Well, he can't remember the other kid, so I guess that part wasn't that important.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what it is. But they have a kid, so Sophia Fergara and and the guy have a kid like later on in the show, and they rapidly age him through the course of I think like like the season ends and then the new season starts, and he's like a walking around talking guy.

SPEAKER_01

I'm like, Hey, well, that's how it happens, man. Look at Jack now. Jack's like tying his tie. And I just started watching a couple episodes of hacks with my sister, and just found out the show's over. Just ended. Yeah. So now I'm like, no, see five seasons, like beautiful send-off final season. Like, so now I have a show. A roadmap. No, they like ended it. It was they did a breaking.

SPEAKER_02

The show did that I watched recently. They're like, they fully thought they were coming back. They set up another season. It was like, oh no, they got canceled.

SPEAKER_01

Did you watch um Firefly? That one's like pretty iconic for doing that. Where they would like, you know how shows kind of end and sometimes they don't know if they're gonna get picked up or not, so they'll do a cliffhanger. Um, that show did it and then got cancelled.

SPEAKER_00

I've seen shows that I've loved that got canceled.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, did they all end in cliffhangers or were they like all of them? Yeah. Kara loves a bad show.

SPEAKER_00

I love a bad show.

SPEAKER_01

There's so many bad shows that Kara loves.

SPEAKER_00

Every single Lucy Hale show that she's ever done.

SPEAKER_01

Like a like a free form ABC family moment. How many shows over under you think that you've seen that got canceled? 15 shows.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

What's the one where they they go on a plane and the plane disappears and it's Manifest.

SPEAKER_01

Manifest was one of those. Manifest got canceled.

SPEAKER_00

Manifest got cancelled on NBC. Okay. And their the fan base was so big that they fought and Netflix picked them up for a final setup. Was it bad?

SPEAKER_02

The cliffhanger, the cliffhanger that they left on was like horrible. Horrible when you do that. And then they're like, oh, I didn't give it up. And I remember I remember watching it and then finding out that it wasn't renewed after, and I was like, Damn. This is the worst. And then they brought I didn't watch the when they brought it back.

SPEAKER_01

They um Arrested Development did something where it like had three seasons and then got cancelled, and then there was like fan demand for them to bring it back, and so Netflix picked it up and they did a season and it was horrible. It bombed. It takes it.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, you want you want to know the the list of free form?

SPEAKER_01

Sure.

SPEAKER_00

Chasing Life, Cruel Summer, Famous in Love, Good Trouble.

SPEAKER_01

These are all shows that you watched that got cancelled.

SPEAKER_00

Pretty Little Liars The Perfectionists, Ravenswood.

SPEAKER_01

Pretty Little Liars didn't get canceled.

SPEAKER_00

Switched at Birth.

SPEAKER_01

They finished that show, right?

SPEAKER_00

It was the it was the it was the spinoff. Switched at Birth. Twisted.

SPEAKER_01

So all these shows you watched.

SPEAKER_00

That was only in the last year. How are you finding this?

SPEAKER_02

Listen, did you make this?

SPEAKER_00

Six years.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she writes it down on our NoT.

SPEAKER_02

Really?

SPEAKER_00

No. I Googled it.

SPEAKER_01

Shows that got cancelled?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, freeform shows specifically.

SPEAKER_02

Dang.

SPEAKER_01

Freeform shows that Kara loved that got canceled.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Your AI is like, oh yeah, I totally got you. I've heard you talk about it.

unknown

Gosh.

SPEAKER_02

I love my shows.

SPEAKER_00

And then all the Lucy Hale shows that were the CW network. Why do they keep putting her in shows?

SPEAKER_01

Why do they keep putting her in shows if they're bad? I don't know. Why do people make bad stuff? Hey, nobody around here does doing that. Alright. This show is brought to you by Patreon. Hey, hey, hey. Listen. Costs a little bit of money to make a podcast, but we love doing it. So if you like listening to it, we'd love a little bit of support. We put this show out for free. You can show your support monetarily on the Patreon. Okay. For $4 a month, you can access to the post show. That's a whole extra episode of the podcast we do every single week just for your Patreon supporters.

SPEAKER_00

We love Life Sentence. Okay. Uh uh uh What are these?

SPEAKER_01

Uh your CW shows.

SPEAKER_00

Life Sentence and The Carrie Diaries. Katie Keane.

SPEAKER_01

Riverdale was horrible, but it didn't get a cliffhanger. They finished that show.

SPEAKER_00

The Secret Circle.

SPEAKER_01

And then there was like shows around what did they do a Sabrina show, right? Did that get canceled?

SPEAKER_00

Sabrina did get canceled. Awesome. But then there's like they kept doing other spin-offs like in the same universe.

SPEAKER_01

Who's it for? Like type thing. Nobody's asking for it. I know. It's for me.

SPEAKER_00

I know. I love those shows.

SPEAKER_01

God bless you.

SPEAKER_00

I love my cable TV.

SPEAKER_01

Annie, we miss you. Happy birthday.

unknown
