More people in the audience. Can I get a hey? That's what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_01Well, well, well. Uh yes.
SPEAKER_00I know the free advertising that was happening there was pretty nice. On your water bottle.
SPEAKER_02No free advertising.
SPEAKER_00Nah, none of this shit.
SPEAKER_02Nothing's free nowadays.
SPEAKER_00Such a good wait, great transition. Just hold on to that for like two seconds while I do the intro. Hi, everybody. Welcome back to What the Podcast. I'm Ryan. And I'm John. And together we are in the Bluth, as always. Karate Foya, my lovely wife. And he's got her a special red shirt on, so just give her some grace. Choking on water. And it's Coast Kovman. Always fresh, never frozen. Episode 299.
SPEAKER_01You have to stoke the fire, you guys.
SPEAKER_00If you don't stoke the fire, then you don't have flame. If you don't have flame, oh, and the flame don't let the flame die out.
unknownSorry.
SPEAKER_01Our dumpster fire is coming soon, y'all.
SPEAKER_00Is it? Is it on its way? No, no. You've made the silicone mold.
SPEAKER_01Guys, it's just a breath away.
SPEAKER_00What are you rocking with right now? Is that a N espresso situation? Yeah. George Clooney would be proud.
SPEAKER_01Sorry. My buddy that he I have a friend that does coffee. Yeah. But he wasn't available to make me a coffee.
SPEAKER_00No, he's not making coffee these days. No, not for me. I swear if he was here tonight, he would have turned the machine on, and I think he did. Or he would have.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but then like that's where the kind of the trail starts.
SPEAKER_00That's weird usually. Oh, we got some action from my unborn child. Hold on a second. Lucy has been a little bit more.
SPEAKER_01She literally heard she went.
SPEAKER_00Come on, put the mic down.
SPEAKER_01Put the mic down. Hey, yeah, yeah. Yeah. She said, my inhale. My stomach is not even a big thing. I wanna shoot. Baby. Shoot. Get back in the channel. Probably immediately.
SPEAKER_00I think Italian babies get it like out the womb. That was your first birthday.
SPEAKER_02She's had to take it too far.
SPEAKER_00Jack had his first coffee. We might have talked about this already, but what do you guys remember your first like cup of coffee when you started drinking coffee?
SPEAKER_01I think eighth grade. I don't I think it was out of high school for me.
SPEAKER_00For sure, like Starbucks was like into that kind of thing.
SPEAKER_03I think my first like coffee was eighth grade. Specifically during Christmas time.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, Christmas time.
SPEAKER_03During traditions of Christmas. And we'd all go out and walk over to Starbucks. And it was peppermint crap. Uh cinnamon dulce. Ah, pepper. But then I'd order Tina's all the time. It used to be a um Java chip situation. Uh grande latte with non-fat milk and sweet and low.
SPEAKER_00Tell me one more time. Tell me one more time. It was a good non-fat latte.
SPEAKER_03Grande, non-fat latte with two sweet and lows.
SPEAKER_00That's crazy. That is too much of a general growing of. I also think about like Thanksgiving for some reason always says like coffee to me. Like my first one of my first cups of coffee.
SPEAKER_01Because all the adults would like sit around and drink coffee, and it's like you go right into like black cups. No, not eating coffee.
SPEAKER_00For sure. What's funny is I've gone like through the roller coaster of like I definitely started like lots of cream, lots of sugar. And then it was like just creamer. And then it was black for a long time, and I still drank mostly.
SPEAKER_03Because it was saving money in college. But every once in a while, I'll like put a little milk and sugar in my cake.
SPEAKER_00If everyone else is like having it that way. My cousins are all over everybody drinking coffee. I'm like, oh, a little milk and sugar in a coffee.
SPEAKER_01My favorite earliest when I had coffee as a young boy was in high school. My brother drove me to school for my freshman in sophomore year. And went through Starbucks. I know, and he he he would make a hot black cup of coffee at home. And we were driving in that, you know, the 70s truck. The blue truck. And he would just he he drink it and he didn't like it. 17 or 16. Like choking it down. And he'd be like, oh, this is really good. And I'm like, he was very visibly not enjoying it. And I'd be like, no, you don't like that. He's like, oh, it's great. And now, but then he'll tell you now that he basically forced himself by drinking black coffee to like it. That's kind of how you know it's like.
SPEAKER_02I think everybody does that. Coffee's the same with wine. But when you start drinking it, you're like, oh, I like a Moscato because it tastes like juice. And then the more you drink, you're like, moscato isn't sweet. Oh, way too sweet. And then pretty soon you're like, I really like the Syrah. I want a dry, I want a dry Syrah. And it's like, man, if 18-year-old Annie was drinking a glass of dry Syrah, she'd be like, what the hell's wrong with you? Um but did you think she would?
SPEAKER_03What are you doing? Yeah, it's not true. I drink a lot of coffee working at Starbucks.
SPEAKER_02And then but my same thing with my um my coffee. And take I didn't drink coffee until I was like probably 20. Sure. And when I started going to church because they have free coffee at church, and so everyone would get coffee. And I was like, oh, I guess I guess I'll get it too.
SPEAKER_00That's gotta be like top three best, worst cups of coffee ever. It's like the free coffee at church. Yes, yes, yes. And it's never good. It's never good, but it's always great.
SPEAKER_01I was telling somebody, we were just talking to somebody today about it, because it was like I kind of love it. Like on a Sunday, I'm like, I love like just making getting a little crappy piece of drink of coffee and putting I have I put Kramer in it. Yeah, for sure you got it. You have to. Yeah, and uh but then you know, when somebody pointed it out to me, this was like a year ago, they've actually fixed it since then. But somebody on the worship team was like, you know, the coffee here is like really bad. And I was like, Really? Because I always put Kramer in it. Like I and I don't even notice because it's just like whatever. But then I was like, he's like, have you ever like held like put it in a clear cup and like held it up to the light? And I did that. Was it chunks? Cowboy coffee. Oh no, it was like it's like it wasn't coffee at all. It was more like tea. It was so good. And then I asked one of the coffee people, I'm like, How do you make this? How much coffee? Like, tell me because the ratio they have the giraffe container one that goes directly. Yeah, one literally one scoop. And I go, Could you make one with two scoops? And this was actually a little, a little, um, a little, you know, like a diner container. Last one. And uh and he made it with two scoops, and I brought it back to the worst team, and I was like, to that to that same guy. I said, What do you think? And he's like, It's certainly better. I'm pretty sure it's a two scooper.
SPEAKER_03A regular coffee maker, I've seen Tanya put like four in the country.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, I think. To be fair, it's like it's like a like a one cup measuring cup scoop. It's not like that.
SPEAKER_02I know I'd be putting I'm making three cups of coffee at the office. I'm putting like eight. It's gonna bear the crap.
SPEAKER_00What was your order that you drank at Starbucks when you worked there? Was like a toffee?
SPEAKER_03No, I did I did two shots of blonde with a pump of toffee nut.
SPEAKER_01Great. And I would do I don't have toffee nut anymore.
SPEAKER_03I know it was my favorite flavor. Me too. It was a splash of milk, and then sometimes if I wanted a sweet treat, I would put salted vanilla sweet cream cold foam on top.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god. So good. And it was so good. There's your Moscato right there.
SPEAKER_03It was it got me through. Oh wow. That was my like one drink during my shift. Other people were like drink after drink after nitro bomb, nitro bomb, nitro bomb, shot. She's not a nitro bomb. Your shift is four hours long.
SPEAKER_00Go get a job at a bar. What are you doing?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, nitro shots. In the morning, it was nitro bombs. That's hilarious. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, nothing's free these days. No. That's what Annie said just moments ago.
SPEAKER_03I think the first drink that I would always get from Starbucks, like consistently, because I never consistently drank coffee. I always got a passion tea unsweetened with pops up raspberry. Yeah. Remember that trend?
SPEAKER_00I don't know about that.
SPEAKER_03It was a raspberry and the passion tea trend. And I always made the mistake of saying of not saying unsweetened.
SPEAKER_00So then it would be sweetened with simple and raspberry, and you'd get it, you'd be like, We're on this kick right now where um Kara's doing all this stuff to like get ready to give birth. All these like natural remedies and things. Yeah, drinking.
SPEAKER_03Stuff that probably doesn't do anything. Oh it doesn't, that's fun. But you never know.
SPEAKER_00Dates, eating dates. Yeah. Because big date people. I was. Which is so funny.
SPEAKER_03So high in sugar.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was like they're great in smoothies and stuff. Yeah, I did them for smoothies and stuff, but like they yeah. The texture is kind of gross.
SPEAKER_01We used to get like a big Costco container of them because Jordan was taking them. She was putting them in shake, she was, you know, whatever. Her friend made these really cool uh I ended up having one, but it was like a it was like a cake pop. It was like a chocolate cake ball, but it was made with dates. Like heavily made with dates. So that yeah, they felt like they tasted like a dessert, but it was actually.
SPEAKER_00And Kara made these treats that are really speaking to me specifically. It's like half a date with a scoop of peanut butter, dipped it in chocolate, and then put little pistachio and like a little salt. It's crazy. It's a candy, it's crazy.
SPEAKER_03See, I have to get it right out of the freezer because I don't like the texture of date. It's like it's so slimy. When it's fully melted out of the freezer, it's like it's hot, it's like when a gummy worm is in ice cream. It's like that texture, which is good.
SPEAKER_00I thought of it because you're drinking raspberry tea. Yeah or raspberry leaf tea.
SPEAKER_01Raspberry tea. Really? Why? For what?
SPEAKER_03It's called the pregnant. It literally, if you see a tea that says the pregnancy tea. It's raspberry leaf tea.
SPEAKER_00Supposed to tone your uterus. And I'll tell you, my uterus is uh toned. It's supposed to prepare, it'd be pretty toned.
SPEAKER_03So I have to do that. I haven't been drinking hot. I made a big batch and then I put it in the fridge, and then I've been making like Arnold Palmer's.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so yummy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We're at like 37 weeks or something like that.
SPEAKER_03So 36 and a half.
SPEAKER_01Hold on to your hats, people. At any moment. Any minute now. Annie and I will be live broadcasting from the studio as soon as Kara goes into labor with updates and bits. Wow. We will be taking phone calls.
SPEAKER_02Oh, the bits are gonna be so good. Yeah. This is where you will tune in to put in your bets on baby.
unknownTrue.
SPEAKER_02The baby baby stats. How big is she gonna be? Um, how do you think?
SPEAKER_00We do like the dead pool, but like the the birth pool right now. What do you think?
SPEAKER_02The name of the nurses. We're gonna have bets on that.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's even good too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Name of the nurses, and give it to us.
SPEAKER_00I'll definitely clock that. As soon as we get to the hospital to have care give birth, I'll be like, what are the nurses' names?
SPEAKER_01I have to juice booth from the moment she goes into labor to the moment that baby comes out. Okay, that's great.
SPEAKER_00So thank God with your baby. Could be a 25-hour podcast. That's a 25-hour podcast right there. That there. And he's like, wait, hold on. Let me retract that.
SPEAKER_01Maybe we should do that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's all my whole time. Was it a bit more like broadcast? All my mom's labors were like three hours long. Thank God.
SPEAKER_00It's crazy. I just found this out. Four kids, all of her labors were like three hours long. Yeah. They were also two weeks early.
SPEAKER_03So let's not all of them are two weeks early.
SPEAKER_00Let's not push that agenda because that would be like right now.
SPEAKER_03No, it wouldn't. It would be like next week. That'd be next week. It'd be 38 weeks. It'd be in two weeks. We're 36 in one day.
SPEAKER_02So at the time of recording this, they're 36 in one day.
SPEAKER_00Like I said.
SPEAKER_02We have two more weeks. You I mean, reality is she could come whenever. She could come anytime.
SPEAKER_00There's no there's no rule.
SPEAKER_0136 weeks is safe for her to come now, right? At any time? 37 weeks is safe. What's it called?
SPEAKER_0038 is technically full term. 38 is full term. After the 25, what was the week? Liability week? 37 is the only time.
SPEAKER_03No, viability is 28.
SPEAKER_00No, it's like 24 or something. Even though liability week. I'm just saying like it the baby could be born at any time, and it would spend some time in the NICU, but it would be it would be over.
SPEAKER_02Science behind like the NICU is crazy to me. Like the way that baby, there's some, there's babies that have been born at like 20 weeks.
SPEAKER_00It's amazing.
SPEAKER_02And they fully survive because of the science. The NICU, the like the needles they use, the diapers they use, like everything behind the little machines they have to do. I was like, it's a cr it is truly a tile to me.
SPEAKER_0026.
SPEAKER_03It's beautiful. It's amazing.
SPEAKER_01Like last week and my niece was in the NICU for a couple weeks after she was born, and it's like and she was only in there for like two weeks. But it's a long time. It's kind of sad in the NICU. Like hopeful, like a lot of babies don't do well, which is great. Sure. But like they had friends that had the baby at the same time, but they were due like two and a half months or two months. Yeah. So they they had to stay in the NICU for two months. Like rotating. They had other kids too. They had that it was mom or dad was there all the time because you can't leave them. And so even there all the time. It's because it's your lungs and your brain.
SPEAKER_03Everything else is formed. Everything else. It's your lungs and your brain that take until full term, 38 weeks.
SPEAKER_02Shout out, Aaron Airheads. She was a NICU baby. Right.
SPEAKER_00I've been reading that book that you gave me, John. Like every week we've been like reading it. And it's for one, hilarious. Yeah, right? It's very funny. Yeah, the dad book, because it's also like geared towards dads.
SPEAKER_03So it's a little bit like he doesn't read all of it to me. He just gives me the stats.
SPEAKER_00It's a little bit like your wife might, you know, like she's a cow, but you don't want to tell her that.
SPEAKER_02No, she might be looking bigger, but don't say anything. Don't say anything.
SPEAKER_03He looked at me last night and he went, You can take all the naps you want.
SPEAKER_00I said, is that it's funny because each chapter is like it's like a bit where he's like, okay, this is what's gonna happen this week, ba-pa. But then it goes into like interpersonal stuff, like, oh, your wife might be really tired all the time. Like, give her the opportunity to sleep more, get some, you know, jobs done around the house. Like, it's like that kind of book. And it's super, I mean, it's it's been great to like just check in on that stuff.
SPEAKER_03Which I already did that before I was pregnant. What do you mean? I'd be taking naps.
SPEAKER_00Oh, your naps have increased, Kara.
SPEAKER_03There's I don't think so. The nap intake is I feel like before I was pregnant, it was still a nap a day.
SPEAKER_00You do be taking naps, that's true.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, I know my naps. I love that book. We used to.
SPEAKER_00The book also said you would say this.
SPEAKER_02No, he said you would say that. The book uh she's gonna deny her up taking naps. Don't fight her on it.
SPEAKER_00Don't fight her on it. Let's just let it be. Let it go. And when you record the podcast, that's totally fine.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. Yeah, we we had a great time. We read it every Sunday for uh for most of it. Not not every week, but and it was super fun to show because like I said, it is super corny, so reading it out loud. Oh no, it's fine.
SPEAKER_03Taylor Lautner's wife, Taylor Lautner Launner, is she was on a podcast and it keeps popping up on my TikTok, and she I'm pretty sure she's like the same as me.
SPEAKER_00She's about to give birth to another Taylor Launner.
SPEAKER_03Another Taylor Lauder. And she fully is like, I hate this. I hate this so much. I've gained this much weight. I have stretch marks on my pale skin. I hate the way I look.
SPEAKER_00Dang.
SPEAKER_03All this stuff, and I'm like, oh girl.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I just actually my poor you page. I just saw a video of this mom who's a postpartum, who's like sobbing, and she was like, I hate like the sacrifice a body has to go through in order to make a baby. And because she had like lost her whole thing was like she had lost all this weight and then got pregnant naturally, which is like why she lost the weight, and then she gains all this weight in pregnancy, and she's like, Now I'm depressed.
SPEAKER_00You're spiraling.
SPEAKER_02Well, and then like your abs aren't connected the way they were. You know, she's like, so now it's like my body doesn't even work the same.
SPEAKER_03Different when you never had abs, am I right? Scooky to think.
SPEAKER_00I just thought God didn't give me those. God didn't give me those, so you see those like charts and stuff where it's like, here's when your baby is this size, like here's where all your internal organs are.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god, I showed him where everything is. I'm like, okay, that makes sense why these things are happening.
SPEAKER_00Horrible.
SPEAKER_02Do you want to know the like increase a uterus goes through? Like how many times bigger it gets during pregnancy. Oh, it's huge.
SPEAKER_03The volume is huge. Well, thank you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, give it to me. 500 times its original size. Okay, well how big it's like your size of your uterus fits in the palm of your hand. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's impossible. Start over. No, it's not impossible.
SPEAKER_00That's why you're stuck in the house.
SPEAKER_02My hand or Kara's hand? Kara's hand, like like our hand.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so that's a lot smaller than I thought. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so it fits in the palm of your hand. Alright. Because you gotta think like an IED is like a little T, and that fits in the comp like completely. Your entire uterus. Your entire uterus.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02And so it's like sits in like your shit. Literally sits in the palm of your hand. And then you have to think of how big a baby is, and the whole thing stretches around that baby in the placenta. And then all your orange shrink all the way back to this size.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it takes a while for that.
SPEAKER_02Is that not insane? That's why they do the funnel.
SPEAKER_03It is a massage. It's fascinating. The fundal massage.
SPEAKER_01Have you gotten a prenatal massage? Yes, I did. Those were magic for me.
SPEAKER_03I got that for my birthday from Jenny Connor. And I waited to use it until 33 weeks. Was it nice? It was more of a chiropractic appointment. Oh yeah. I was rocked. For one. Don't know if it's a big thing. I was rocked. I did that. I didn't enjoy having a massage on my sides. Oh, yeah. That sucked. That kind of sucked.
SPEAKER_01But when Jordan went, they had a hole in the table. They didn't have that at Carousel. It was literally two.
SPEAKER_04Okay, you gotta go to Gorange Place.
SPEAKER_00They didn't have that at Massage Envy.
SPEAKER_03It was just at Massage Envy for real? No, no. Where was it? They don't have the table with the hole in it. The person was. She was specialized. I think they were outsourcing her. It's just a massage. A body pillow, and she did all the side, and then I flipped to the other side and she did this.
SPEAKER_01Okay, you should really go to the place that Jordan went to. It was a revive massage. That might put me into labor. Well, Jordan did that to try to go into labor. It didn't work. Oh wow. She she had like three or four of them. They were like so life giving for her. I think you should try it.
SPEAKER_03It felt good in the moment, but it's I just have so many knots in my back that it's like it ends up being You always come back from a regular mason.
SPEAKER_00So sore wrecked.
SPEAKER_03The next day, like had to take Tylenol. So sore.
SPEAKER_02Man, Tylenol. There goes the Lucy's on.
SPEAKER_00Well.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, gone.
SPEAKER_00She had to be a composer or something. She's 15. Mozart. What is that supposed to mean?
SPEAKER_03We also got the T bat vaccine. So she vaccinated and she got Tylenol.
SPEAKER_02She's done. She's uh tip her off the list. She's gonna be a Democrat.
SPEAKER_00That's pretty awesome. There's that girl on TikTok. People always are like, where's the girl with the list? And she has like a whole Google Dom of like reasons why not to get pregnant. And it's all like she compiles it from horror stories that people have told on TikTok being like, oh yeah, my you know, I tore four four point tear.
SPEAKER_02She'll respond to videos and say nothing, and it's just her like scrolling the whole list and then adding it to That's crazy. It's so What's the one?
SPEAKER_03Your butt falling out of you?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, your uterus falling out of you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Trigger warning. Well your butt falling out.
SPEAKER_03Collapsed uterus. I did have a question the other day about if you have fourth degree tear, where do all your hemorrhoids go? I said her hemorrhoids will be the least of her problems.
SPEAKER_00If you guys are gonna stitch me back together, could you like cut out some hemorrhoids maybe?
SPEAKER_02A lot of pressure. You think you're gonna like pop a hemorrhoid down there or something?
SPEAKER_00Oh, me probably right now or in it. Oh, because she's given her a half. A lot of pressure.
SPEAKER_03I've popped them before. And that was before I did it.
SPEAKER_00Please.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god. No, not a purpose.
SPEAKER_01And I was like, What do you think I did?
SPEAKER_03Take a needle? I don't know.
SPEAKER_00That could be something you would do, though. Self-surgery is something happy to do. That's the craziest. There is. I need I need to be done with this. I need to move on. Scrape and the hemorrhoids. Stop talking about your hemorrhoids. I need to move on. I need to move on.
SPEAKER_01I've never seen this bird.
SPEAKER_03It's the scrape for me.
SPEAKER_00It's the scrape for me.
SPEAKER_03You're not even looking at my butt, okay?
SPEAKER_00I have no problem looking at her butt.
SPEAKER_02It's right there.
SPEAKER_00You're looking when she's giving birth or in giving birth in regular.
SPEAKER_01You didn't look at it. Well No, I didn't get the opportunity. But b all of my all of my brothers have never they they stay up top.
SPEAKER_02Oh, seems like they're wimps.
SPEAKER_00You know what? This has been an ongoing conversation.
SPEAKER_01I've got all the recommendations I got, all the time. Everyone in my life.
SPEAKER_02You don't want to see a kitchen at your favorite restaurant, can you?
SPEAKER_01Stay up top, bro.
SPEAKER_02Um, you'd be the only thing I think you can handle is just the epidural.
SPEAKER_03You won't be able to handle the needle. That's it.
SPEAKER_00I don't want to see the kitchen at my favorite restaurant, is what Annie just said. Except you do it. It is so good. Except knowing where I go. God, that's good. Um, there is something kind of, you know, in me that wants to look. But everyone in my life, every pery person in my life that has kids has said, for the love of God, do not look. My dad passed out.
SPEAKER_02It's really bloody, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's really bloody.
SPEAKER_02I'll say, I'll say this.
SPEAKER_01Annie is not the same.
SPEAKER_00I know, no, no.
SPEAKER_02My experience. No, granted, no, granted, my experience is a little different. I was there when my sister gave birth, and Aaron, don't worry. I'm gonna censor what I say.
SPEAKER_00Airheads, rise up.
SPEAKER_02I'll say I thought it was gonna I was like, I don't wanna look, I don't wanna look, I don't wanna look. At some point. You looked. Well, yeah, I watched, obviously. Um, but at some point it does it doesn't even look like what it's supposed to look like at all because there's like a literal child coming out of it. Yeah. That you your mind kind of turns off to like what you're really looking at. You're just watching a child come into the world. And I thought for sure I was like, I'm not gonna get emotional, I'm not gonna cry if anything. I'm gonna get like queasy from it. Yeah. Sobbed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So you're a softy. Everybody knows that about you.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Everybody knows that about you.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I'm a softy. I will say the last softy, a big goofy softy.
SPEAKER_00Big goofy I think. Yeah, every once in a while. I'll say that the last nine months have reduced me to like a hollow shell with my former self. So I know if I'm gonna cry, it's gonna happen. It will definitely happen.
SPEAKER_02My brother and I, my brother and I, my brother-in-law and I like sobbed.
SPEAKER_01Like we are all saying for good in a living room, and you've cried.
SPEAKER_02So that's because I have a dead friend. Let's have a have a dead friend.
SPEAKER_01Give him a helmet there, okay? You on the brave! You are the brave! Careful with the hemorrhages. Don't back down.
SPEAKER_00Never surrender!
SPEAKER_04We can win, boys!
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well. Oh, poor Kara. We put a lot of attention to that. Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_00She was trying to sneak out, you know, kind of quietly. Should we talk, say a bunch of nice things about her now? Yeah. She is so beautiful.
SPEAKER_02She is woman. She is.
SPEAKER_00It is fascinating to me. The whole the whole process has been absolutely fascinating to me.
SPEAKER_02If I think about it too much, I'm like, oh, it's an alien. I was saying last night.
SPEAKER_00Laying in bed, I was like, it's weird because we keep saying, like, oh, she's on her way, she's gonna be here when Lucy gets here, whatever.
SPEAKER_02Under a thin layer of skin.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, she's just been there the whole time. She's been growing. Chill out over there. She's right. It's fascinating. You're a sick little freak like me, so you kind of are understanding. I'm like, she's here. She's right here.
SPEAKER_01She's a thin layer of skin.
SPEAKER_02Have you seen the girl? Scratching at the wall. Their kids, like hands coming out of their stuff. I'm like, for sure. It is fascinating. They're right there. Yeah. You ever seen Twilight?
SPEAKER_01Sure. I did not believe that. When does that kick in? As soon as the baby's born, brother.
SPEAKER_02The moment Kara starts calling you daddy.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. So I've done. Oh, so it happened already. Awesome. I don't feel any different. I will say, John, ever since you became a father, you have been absolutely insufferable. I'll say. Completely a different person. So that is pretty awesome. That's gonna happen to me too. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02You're gonna be insufferable in a different way.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna be like, Annie, let me tell you something. That's my dad voice. Let me tell you something.
SPEAKER_02It's about time I have some male wisdom in my life. Hit me with it. Okay.
SPEAKER_00I'm not gonna say anything about that. Um, yeah.
SPEAKER_01No, I just I think there are parts of you.
SPEAKER_00No, you've been great, by the way, John. You're a great one.
SPEAKER_01No, it's okay. I I know I'm insufferable. I get it.
SPEAKER_00No, and we just celebrated Jack's first birthday, which was awesome. That's crazy that he's one. You made a really nice little speech to everybody, and it really it it tugged in my heartstrings a little bit. I did.
SPEAKER_01I did say about my dad. I really wanted my dad to pray for the for d for the food. He wouldn't. I wouldn't do it. No, he was working. He was he wasn't even there. Your dad? I saw your dad. Did he come late? He came late. But I I was like all week, I was like thinking and like just r I really was reflecting on like and I, you know, a part I said in my speech, I won't give the speech again, but and so I was preparing that and then I was like, I got to there that morning to to like clean up and get ready, and I go, where's daddy? And I'll say, Oh, he's working. I go, So when? 2 30? Oh, and the party's over? Oh, cool. So I guess like I'll pray for my own kid, I guess. You know what? It was okay. He felt bad. I made him feel bad about it. He got bad I after it was all over, I was like, hey, so why were you working today? He's like, oh, I I guess I didn't realize. I'm like, so I really wanted you to pray for Jack, but I I like it's totally fine. He's like, Oh, I'm really sorry. He's like, I I won't miss any more birthdays.
SPEAKER_00He's like, John, I got so many goddamn grandkids. You think I care when one of my grandkids has a birthday? I don't care. I don't care. I got what's Jack, number six seven? Six, seven? So seven grandkids already. Poppy, what does the poppy care for his seventh grandkid? That is true, you're right. The world. I'll say he cares the world for it.
SPEAKER_01No, I think it I think it took to see you. I uh like I will say there's like things, it's not like mushy or like emotional. It's more like I just like when you I feel like when you bring that baby home, your whole sense of like I like I don't sleep very hard anymore. I used to I used to be a hard sleeper, but now I'm like I I hear a noise, I'm uh because I'm like something about I I really think it's the baby. I really think it's like and like also I I know I I we were concerned about him sleeping in the bed because I'm like kind of a heavy sleeper. I roll over I kind of roll around a little bit. Ever since he's been in her bed, I'm like I I'm very very aware of when I w when I go to move, I'm like, I need I need to make sure I'm not like rolling over on him. So I feel like a lot of that does stuff kind of does change.
SPEAKER_00For me, this is weird, but like the baby's not even here yet. I ever since we got pregnant, I've had like driving stuff. Yeah. I get behind the wheel of the car and I'm like very like, oh my gosh, other people are driving crazy, and I'm like really trying to drive. I have like driving anxiety. Yes. I'm like, shoot. Like, yeah, and it's not even just like when we're driving in the car, it's like when I'm driving. I'm like, oh shoot, like I really now pay attention to the I get really angry at drivers too.
SPEAKER_01Yes. I used to not even care. Somebody cut me off, whatever. But if somebody does something record, I'm like, what the what are you doing?
SPEAKER_00It's very weird. I'm like, I've never had that before.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, there's a lot of little I think I think and also it is it is really rewarding. I I I said this before on this podcast, and it's true. Like I I'm a kind of guy, I'm the kind of guy growing up like not really feeling called like knowing what I wanted to do in life or work or or like knowing, you know, really or or feeling like a great sense of like identity and something. Sure. As soon as I became a dad, I was like, this is what I was there for. Like this, like and it's it's it sounds cliche, but it's so true. I'm like, sure. There are days that you're you're you will feel like like I feel uncomfortable when and I go, ah like you know, I'm I some sometimes I'm feeling insecure, but like for the most part, when you wake up and you feed him his bottle and you get him dressed and you get out the door, you're like, I did it. We did this, you know what I'm saying? And and like at the end of your life, you're not gonna be care about what you did or what you have. It's gonna be like those people that are sitting around your bed, like genuinely, you know. And Jack's gonna be one of hopefully a few for me. You know, if I'm blocking the city.
SPEAKER_00The whole weekend I was saying, I thought you were gonna drop that you guys were pregnant again. You were like, even when you were praying, you were like, oh, and you know, like bless Jack, and thank you for all these people. Yeah, and bless the new one that's coming in nine months. I like saw it in my brain, I was like, oh my god, that was perfect.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if it didn't happen. I don't know if we have the same experience, but I feel like having done the first one through one year, I feel more capable. I feel more I feel like I feel like we if we found out we were pregnant, any idiot could do this. I the first time we found out we're pregnant, I had like a sinking, kind of nervous feeling. Sure. Now I'm like, I would be jumping up and down if we found if we were pregnant today.
SPEAKER_00Skin off the terror, everybody.
SPEAKER_02I will say you have gotten softer. Thank you. Yeah, well, of course. Like you just skin. Even hair. Yeah, those prenatals really kicked in.
SPEAKER_01It's beautiful. And it's cool. And it's part of life. Yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_02Anyway.
SPEAKER_00That's why this episode brought to you by hymns. No, not hymns. For just four dollars a month. Go ahead, Annie.
SPEAKER_02Um, no, but I was saying is like I think back to even like our Christmas presents. And you just were so intentional and sweet, and you've always been intentional to sweet, but I think it really I think Jack softened you a lot in that. That you're more comfortable subvocalizing it, which I think is a it's a superpower. I think people need to be more comfortable saying their emotions.
SPEAKER_01Jack has made me realize like more how important the people in your life are. Like, I didn't think about it. Like, I don't I was always appreciative, and I loved like my my fa you guys and my family and my friends, but I'm like, part of me, like when you think about the idea that your son's going to grow up around people, it changes how much you think and love about people. Because you're like, I want like when I think of you guys and a lot of the people that are in our lives, obviously, but I would say like all of them, I'm like, I so badly want Jack to grow up knowing Uncle Ryan, Annie, Auntie Annie, and Auntie Kara. I'm like, that to me would feel like peak childhood, you know? And I I don't know if my parents thought that for me. Because I'm like, but then you know, I I it just it's very it's interesting. It changes the perspective on a lot of things, and uh, people is for sure one of them for me.
SPEAKER_00Is that why they stopped their podcast? Or they stopped doing their podcast like right when you guys were born, I think. Like, shut it down. They were telling me about it. Shut it down, shut it down, delete it. Um 299 episodes of this. Guys, 299. 699. Next up. Whoa. Anything we need to say before the big 300?
SPEAKER_02Thanks for watching. We appreciate it. Oh, okay. All right. You don't actually have a good time doing that.
SPEAKER_00You don't have clearance for that. You don't have the jurisdiction.
SPEAKER_02Always knew this day would come.
SPEAKER_03You know, this is only Annie's like 250th.
SPEAKER_00I know. And he's only been in what?
SPEAKER_01Let's figure out how many you've been on.
SPEAKER_00And he's been on like 250 episodes, for sure.
SPEAKER_01Oh, really?
SPEAKER_02You want to put AI on?
SPEAKER_00You should scan our channel with AI and then ask it to delete all episodes. Freaking AI.
SPEAKER_02What the podcast?
SPEAKER_00Oh, God, I hate AI. I can't tell you. I was sorry. I was 299 episodes. I was gonna not talk about AI. You're having a nice emotional moment, you're talking about your kid.
SPEAKER_01I sent you that picture, but I was working at an event at church this week, and somebody there was a graphic they had me put up on the screens. And you know how you can just tell AI. You just know. But you know what's the same. I thought it'd be interesting to send the like take a photo, send it to AI, and ask AI if this was made with AI, right? And it worked. Kind of meta. And they were like, AI laid out a full thing of why. The color scheme, the cur like the curvature of certain things. I was like, oh my god.
SPEAKER_02It's outing itself.
SPEAKER_00And here's the problem, and I and I told John that because John sent it to me, texted a picture. He's like, AI knows that AI sucks. And I was like, Yeah, yeah. Uh the problem now that we're facing is everybody's using that for everything. So everyone that sucks at making graphics that doesn't know how to open Canva is like making these graphics that, like you said, they they look horrible. It's like the same font, and it has like the three little pictures on the bottom, and it looks it's just which is so funny because it's like it takes ten minutes to generate a big graphic off of AI.
SPEAKER_03It takes ten minutes on Canva to do it yourself.
SPEAKER_00True, you are creative. Creativity's dying, but now that so many people are making them, they're putting them out into the world, and AI is just a learning tool. It's not like actual artificial intelligence, it's learning from taking all of the stuff that's on the internet and then just shitting out something that's like kind of an amalgamation of that. So the more that people make those graphics, the more they're gonna pull from that same style, and we're just gonna have this infinite loop of stuff that looks bad.
SPEAKER_02Do you do a swear jar when with your kids?
SPEAKER_01Um, I hadn't thought about it. Should I? Did you?
SPEAKER_02Did you have a swear jar? No, but we weren't allowed to swear. And when turned 13, my mom gave us like one cuss word or whatever. She's like, you could turn, yeah, you could cur you can use one. You can turn to use it regularly? You have to pick one. You have to pick one. Maybe we were younger than 13. You could just use it. We were not you're not gonna do it.
SPEAKER_00I couldn't say bad words for 25 years old.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you won't get in trouble if I hear you say it, but you can only pick one. I didn't know most bad words. And because I was a child, I picked crap. Oh, crap. I was like, crap. That's a good one. But now I'll say crap and people will be like, oh my gosh. And I'm like, oh, because I've I was like, it's not a bad word to be crap. Oh crap.
SPEAKER_01By the way, it's universally not a bad word.
SPEAKER_02It's not a bad word.
SPEAKER_01Crap's not a bad word. There's like 10% of society that thinks it's a bad word.
SPEAKER_00The rest of us were like, I was in that, I grew up in that 10% for sure. Crap. I couldn't say crap. I couldn't say stupid, couldn't say shut up.
SPEAKER_02Stupid. My big intolerant. Shut up was oh, shut up was bad. Today, a friend of mine called me an idiot.
SPEAKER_01Oh, what?
SPEAKER_02She's like, yeah, you dumb idiot. And I was like, ouch. And I walked away. She was Annie. Annie. Who was it? It was your wife.
SPEAKER_01Kayla Davis said that. Kayla Davis of course. She called you a dumb idiot?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she was, okay, yeah, dumb idiot. And then we're going to be able to do that. Oh, I I in the hallway we were walking out of the work together. And she's like, Annie, same team, same team, you and I, same team. Come on. Same team.
SPEAKER_00Same team, dumb idiot.
SPEAKER_02And I said, I was like, no, Kayla, let me leave. Let me leave. And then my art coworker yelled, she's like, Do we need you two sisters to be separated? I go, no, I need everyone to sign the petition to fire Kayla. A neighboring office was walking hallway as I'm screaming this entire office. I go, fire her.
SPEAKER_01That's perfect.
SPEAKER_02Have that go over. And then she texted me later, or she, when we were walking out to the parking lot, she said something, she called me a slut. And I said, you know what? And she goes, that really got you, huh? I think it just like, oh yeah, slut, I don't care. It's like, yeah, amen.
SPEAKER_01But idiot, I'm like amen, not amen.
SPEAKER_02What about what about suck? Amen.
SPEAKER_00I couldn't say suck either. Like, this sucks, that sucks.
SPEAKER_03Oh, we could say that. I got yelled at because Kelly Clarkson came out with a song, My Life Would Suck Without You. Yeah. It was on my iPod, and I got yelled at by my grandma.
SPEAKER_02I got yelled at for Rihanna and she didn't take a bathroom.
SPEAKER_00Do not grandma wasn't grandma wasn't fucking around.
SPEAKER_02Damn, damn. I'm telling you. See, the problem is my family, like my grandparents cursed all the time. Like everyone cursed. Oh, mine didn't.
SPEAKER_00I never heard any of the heavy hitters until I was like crazy. Fifth grade. Mine was probably sixth grade.
SPEAKER_03Mine was probably like eighth grade. Freshman year.
SPEAKER_02Raising getting raised in a non-Christian household. You know what is never a curse word? Jesus. Oh, Jesus. I got something saying. I still say that. I to this day will be like, Jesus criminy. Christ feels too hard. You was saying I said at work, yeah. I say it at work. Jesus. If Kayla walks in or something, I'm like, Jesus Crimey. Well, what do you want? But I used to say, tell me about it.
SPEAKER_00It's like it feels softer than Jesus McDonald's.
SPEAKER_02It feels softer than going with his full name.
SPEAKER_00It's Jesus Horatio Christ.
SPEAKER_03I was just saying Jesus. And then that was another time I was caught by my grandma and I said, I said Jesus. So grandma's a narc? Is that what you're saying?
SPEAKER_02Grandma's a freaking narc.
SPEAKER_00Which are you talking about grandma or grandma-grandma? Grandma-grandma.
SPEAKER_03Did she yell at you? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, it was just like, don't say that. Okay. Every time my dad would do a crazy driving move on the freeway, because he's a crazy driver.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um, I would never say that, Jim. I would never say that.
SPEAKER_02And my mom would go, Jesus, Jim, look where you're going. It was always Jesus, Jim. Jesus. Jesus, Jim, Jesus.
SPEAKER_01I've heard your mom say that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she and like if he says something crazy too, she's like, Jesus, Jim, don't say stuff like that.
SPEAKER_03Whenever my mom would drive and she'd get road rage, it was never cuss words. But what'd you say? She'd be yelling in the car. Oh. Yes. Fug. Fug Ryan always has to say that. I don't know how to do it.
SPEAKER_00I feel like I'm being mis you know characterized here. I have to say the F-word when I drive. I'm sorry. But okay, go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Mom would correct herself and be like, oh, they can't even hear me. That's so sweet. Oh, to the about the other driver. Because it was always just coming out of our street, going left to the front. Which is insane. Growing up, driving, there wasn't a keep clear. My dad had to petition the city to put a keep clear there. So when people inspiring to me, I want to put in for speed bumps. When we'd be late for school, she would be like yelling at people like, Why didn't you let me in? And then she'd give them the can't even hear me.
SPEAKER_00It's truly inspiring. I want to petition to get speed bumps on my street. Because you know, Lotus Street is right off of like the main drag towards the street.
SPEAKER_03So people people use it as a get around traffic and blast up our street.
SPEAKER_00It's bad. It's gotten really bad. There's a bunch of kids on our street.
SPEAKER_02Oh, there's a ton of kids on the street.
SPEAKER_00There's a bunch of kids that live on our street.
SPEAKER_01Let's go put in some just put them in. Let's just put in some speed bumps.
SPEAKER_02How hard could it be? I mean, let's get a bag of concrete city. Taking them out is gonna take forever. Put them in, a couple bags of concrete, wet them down, paint it, plastic off.
SPEAKER_01But what about don't they get the rubber ones you can bolt into the bottom? They do. Yeah, get the rubber speed bumps. And I'll get some.
SPEAKER_00I'm on thin ice with the city, so I don't know if I should really infrastructure. Yeah. You know what? The right hand doesn't know what the left hand's doing. I'll tell you that much. Yeah. SPEAKER_00What's she do? It's like a chewy. It's like not a gum, but it's not a chewy.
SPEAKER_02You know that toffee chew? It is like toffee coffee. It's a lily koy flavor. It's like toffee and laffy toffee. You can only get these in Hawaii.
SPEAKER_01Can I just eat it? You just kind of chew it a little bit.
