00:04:45.759 Hosea has done a masterful job from the very beginning of describing what it looks like to fall away from God, to wander away from the Lord. 00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:57.120 He's used a multitude of images, different ways to capture what falling away, wandering away from the Lord actually looks like. 00:04:57.680 --> 00:05:03.920 Probably the strongest, certainly the first illustration that he used was the marriage of Hosea and his wife Gomer. 00:05:04.560 --> 00:05:08.959 We're going back to the beginning of this series, to the beginning of the book. 00:05:09.279 --> other word pictures, not just for a faithless marriage, Gomer's wandering eye, chasing after other lovers, illustrating the hearts of God's people, the northern tribe of Israel at that time in particular. 00:06:45.759 --> 00:06:58.480 Though God had been so good to her, her restless heart would remain restless until she finally saw with new eyes who her true husband really was. 00:07:00.079 almost always portrayed that way negatively in the Word of God, exposed by the deeds in their lives. 00:16:20.639 --> 00:16:27.919 We could ask ourselves this morning, how would we know what that 00:19:31.839 Whatever the idol may be, eventually, and see the danger of it, of self-deception is we might well be hearing this this morning and thinking, well, I'm not sure if this is an idol, I'm horrible words to think about, but we must. 00:21:12.079 --> 00:21:25.599 He's saying to Israel, the day will come when you will be so miserable in your new captivity, where you will be abused and us, may the mountains cover us in the rubble. 00:22:00.319 --> 00:22:15.119 The first time Jesus uttered the words on his way into Jerusalem for the last time, he prophesied that soon, within decades, and we know that it was 70 A.D. 00:22:15.279 --> 00:22:19.839 when the Romans came in and just leveled the city. 00:22:20.319 --> 00:22:22.559 They slaughtered the Jews. 00:22:24.240 --> 00:22:26.319 It was a horrible time. 00:22:27.440 --> 00:22:33.839 And Jesus saw that and he said, on that day, you're going to cry out, I wish I was never born. 00:22:34.240 --> 00:22:36.640 I wish I didn't have to deal with all this. 00:22:36.960 --> 00:22:40.400 But there's a second time we find this phrase in the New Testament. 00:22:40.559 --> 00:22:42.960 It's actually in the last book of the Bible.
