Today, I will cover the difference between “I love you” and “I like you”.

-          “I love you” means “je t’aime”. It is an expression a person says to another person that they love. It could be a partner, a spouse or a family member. 

I remember one time when one of my students told me that he loved me. What he meant to say was “I like you”. It was funny.

-          “I like you” means “je t’aime bien”. It has a different meaning because there is usually no feeling of love towards the other person.

“To love” also means “adorer” so “I love you” can be translated by “je t’adore”. A famous example is the slogan of Dior: “I love Dior” (Dior, j’adore).
