Hello and welcome to Wednesday’s Words with English with Languissimo® which will help you improve your vocabulary so that you can communicate better in English.
My name is Vanessa Rocket. I’m the founder and CEO of Languissimo®.
Today, I will cover the difference between “early” and “soon”.
- “Early” is an adjective which means “tôt”. It is the opposite of “late”.
It is used in the following expressions: “to be an early bird” (être lève-tôt ou du matin) “to get up/go to bed/arrive/leave/finish/eat/work/start early” and “the early bird catches the worm” (l’avenir appartient à ceux qui se levent tôt).
- “Soon” is an adverb which means “bientôt”. It is used with a verb. For example: “to leave/arrive/finish/eat/start soon”. The most common expressions are “sooner or later” (tôt ou tard) and see you soon or talk to you soon” (à bientôt).
