Welcome back to Not Just a Nurse podcast with Nurse Jax. It has been so long, guys, I have been away. I know it's been away for two years almost and in that two years it's been so much happening. I can't wait to catch you up. First of all, in the two years, you know taking on new responsibilities at work those of you who are nurses you understand, as a nurse manager, you know you just have to take on your responsibility and you just have to do what you have to do. Then life just happened. But I am back on track and I'm willing, I'm ready to share all the exciting things that has been happening in my life. Share all the exciting things that has been happening in my life. So, first of all, I opened and now have been practicing in a new venture called Hunter Wellness. We just celebrated our one year anniversary. So I have been open for one year. Y'all One year.
Speaker 1That was the other thing. You know starting a business and for those of you out there that have, you know that it is not glitz and glam like people make it out to be. It is hard work, it is building your practice, it is building your customer base and you don't just want any customers. You want the right customers that are going to come back time again and week after week. And those are the things. That is hard and building it right and having enough finances to do it, while having a full time job and running a business and taking care of home and oh, let's not stop there Trying to have a relationship and raising your children, sending kids off to school. I know it, it spins my head too, but I did it and I've been doing it for the last two years and that's why I've been missing. So now I'm ready to come back and we have some exciting new things I said.
Speaker 1So, first of all, one new exciting thing is that I got married. Y'all, I am now a married woman. I'm married to Mr Christopher Bryan. He is amazing, and for someone to take me on with all of my stuff and all of my madness, you know he has to be amazing, and those of you who know him love him a little bit more than me. My family is like where's Chris? I show up and they're like where is Chris? And so it's just like the sitcom. Everybody Loves Chris In my life. Everybody loves Christopher Bryan. So he's added two new children to our lives. So we are now a family of eight. We have six children, so we could really have a basketball team y'all, but they're great. You know the kids are adults, so you know how adult children are and teenage children they barely speak to you and half the time they're on the phone and they don't get to speak to each other. But when we come together for game nights and things like that, it all works itself out.
Speaker 1So the other great thing that we're going to do is when I opened my med spa, I didn't want it to just be another med spa, another place for high cost and high prices to be a part of the new trend. I really wanted it to be a safe place for men and women and anyone to just come to and be able to find some peace, you know, and in the process get a little hydration, which really we're going to dig into that a little deeper later on in a different series that we're having and also we do the vitamin injections. So vitamins we'll talk about how important vitamins are Never really understood that until I started this business, that vitamins really change your life and we're not really getting it from our foods anymore. So we have to get it from somewhere, and injected. Injectable vitamins are absolutely a game changer. It changed my life, so I'm sure you know, if you give it a chance, it'll change yours too. Another thing that I offer here is Botox and the weight loss medication you know, like semiglutide, ie, ozempic, and it's been working, and we have the Skinny Shot and just those things.
Speaker 1But I wanted my Hunter Wellness to be different. I wanted it to be a place where people learn how to take care of themselves and learn how to do better, if it's just a little bit. So I have created something called Wellness Wednesdays. So every Wednesday you can either come in person I'm going to be here, whether you're here or not. I am going to be here. So on Wednesday nights, from six to about seven, not long, you know it could go longer, because you know sometimes people just come and just want to get away from their daily stressors, and this is a safe place and here you're going to learn how to take care of yourself, how to take care of your mental health, how to take care of your physical health, how to take care of your spiritual health.
Speaker 1We are all suffering from the same self-care. We are all suffering from it. So Wellness Wednesdays is a time and a place for you to come and feel safe, to know that there's a exhale Like I can come somewhere and exhale. I don't have to be the boss, I don't have to run the company, I don't have to be mommy, I don't have to be daddy. I just need to sit for a minute, maybe have a cup of coffee, maybe a cup of tea. To that you're learning how to take care of yourself. You may get a hydration in the process, or you may get a little Botox in the process. Make an appointment to come back another time, at least get your blood pressure taken, you know. But you'll learn different things and we have a whole new curriculum for you and it's all set up to make sure you win every single time.
Speaker 1So this week we're going to kick it off by talking about the importance of self-care. So you know you can break down the myth. Self-care and self-care is not selfish, and you have a lot of different things around self-care and self-care is not selfish and you have a lot of different things around self-care, but self-care is an attitude. It's you want to do it. You have to want to do it right. So some things that um are meaningful to me and what I do with self-care is I'm a busy woman and those of you who know me knows I am busy.
Speaker 1I have a super jam-packed schedule from 6 am to 10 pm, going non-stop, and so in those moments, some of the things that I'll do for self-care it extends beyond just pampering yourself. It's the emotional part, it is the physical health, it is spiritual health, it I knew I had to get out of here. I just needed to go and get some sunlight. That sunlight from the vitamin D, from that sunlight really changes your life. So I took a walk. I just walked to the deli, got some lunch and came back inside and I'm telling you it was about 15, 20 minutes. It was a game changer for me. I was able to go another three hours with clarity my mind.
Speaker 1You know some of us were, as myself. We're getting into that menopausal where in mid-sentence you don't even remember what you were gonna say. So just certain things like taking a walk, I, I drive up and then, you know, spending an hour and 30 minutes in traffic every day, both ways. Round trip for me is about three hours in traffic and if you're a listener like you, listen to music. Some people listen to music. Some people just turn the radio off and just drive in silence. Today was a beautiful day so you could roll the window down and drive in silence, but the one thing that I can honestly say is that you have to be present in whatever moment that you're in. Just be present.
Speaker 1And another thing that I do that costs nothing is I sit in my driveway. I have to decompress before I start the other portion of my life. Like I said, I just got married recently, 4th of July. So you know, even though we've been together for five years, I feel like now I have to like, at least try to give him a meal, maybe twice a week or something. So, you know, with that and paying attention to my senior in high school, you know, making sure I call the one that just went away to college, and I sit in the driveway and I do all of that. I plan my next move. I plan when I walk in the door. What am I going to do next? I plan do I sit here?
Speaker 1I usually sit for maybe 15 to 20 minutes and sometimes they'll know I'm out there and they come to the door, they come to the car and actually interrupt, but sit in your driveway, park up in a McDonald's parking lot, go get your car washed and just whatever it is that allows you to be sane and stay in the moment and just focus on you, do it, do it. If it's even 15 minutes a day, do it. And, um, and, like I said, there's a common misconception about self-care. It's not just about indulging in luxury, because that's nice too, and we should do that too. At least quarterly Indulge in a little luxury, let all that hard work pay off. And so you know, just reflect, reflect on who you are, what you mean to yourself and why it's important to be present in your moment, because that's the only thing that you really have is your moment. So the takeaway here is the self-care checklist is small. It's actionable steps that you can incorporate into your life every day. So do that and go forward with that, and maybe next week I'll have company and we'll be having a discussion. But for today, whatever I decide to do, or whatever Wednesday happen, I will give you some pointers and I'll also have it on the podcast next day, so you'll get to hear it on Thursday.
Speaker 1So this is me, I am back and I'm by myself. Today. I usually have someone to interview, and that will happen too. But I am so happy to be back on Not Just a Nurse podcast, giving you small tips and how to be a better version of yourself every single day. It's a work in progress, so visit me on hunterwellnessorg. Whatever it is, you see, there some of it can be shipped to you, and so just um, just don't forget to breathe and stay present in your moment. Well, we'll see you next wednesday, or speak to you next Wednesday, where we'll be talking about another part of health and wellness and another part of the journey of self-care.
