Treveal C.W. Lynch (00:00)
Hey guys, welcome into the I Am The Possible Podcast Experience. Yes, this is the place where possibilities become perspective guys. Welcome once again into the space and into the place I is your host, JaVale C.W. Lynch, Mr. What What. And today we're gonna be talking about developing clarity, confidence, and courage as a Christian.

Guys, listen, I am not on a high horse. I'm not better than anyone out there. ⁓ Yet for so many years, I have looked into the eyes of so many brothers and sisters in the faith, and I have seen a lack of clarity, confidence, and courage. I've had so many conversations with so many Christians. I've been in circles, meetings. I've been in ministry.

side by side with men and women who, when they were honest with themselves and they were honest with me, they didn't have a lot of clarity. They didn't have a lot of confidence. They didn't have a lot of courage in their faith, in themselves most importantly. And so today I want to share with you something that for me in my own personal life gave me clarity, confidence,

and courage. It got me, you know, sort of over a bridge. On one side of the bridge, I lacked self-confidence. ⁓ I lacked direction in life, right? I was timid. I was scared to take risks. ⁓ I just didn't know what to do sort of with my life. And even after becoming a Christian, I was still kind of just not really knowing what to do.

and I crossed a bridge and on the other side was a great sense of clarity, a great sense of confidence in myself, in God, and a great sense of courage, able to take chances, able to take risks, able to believe ⁓ in the possibilities, able to believe that the best was going to be my outcome, was going to be my results in any given circumstance or situation.

And so today I want to speak to that person. I want to speak to you. If you are a Christian, you are a man or woman of faith, someone who believes in God, you're praying to God, you're looking to God, you're trusting in God, you're attending church service, you're reading your Bible, you're doing all the things, you're sustaining from as best you can from a sinful lifestyle. You're like crossing all the T's, dotting all the I's of Christianity. And yet you find yourself in this thing called life.

not very clear, not very confident, and not very courageous as it concerns your faith, as it concerns maybe your career path, as it concerns just your overall lifestyle, the things that you are involved in. You seem ⁓ more like someone who's, instead of going for it, you're more reserved. Instead of participating,

you're on sideline. Instead of doing the thing, you hope and wish and pray that one day, someday, it'll all just work out. I'm speaking to you today because I've been where you've been. I've been where you are. And I've made some progress. And I'm still a work in progress, as we say. I'm still getting there. But I've come along far enough to where now I can start to, in a sense, reach back.

and pull some others forward. And the truth is, no matter who you are, you've made more progress than perhaps you are really able to fully appreciate. We're all a little further than someone. We can all reach back to some degree and pull someone forward, just as there's someone in front of us that can then pull us forward. We're always in the middle, being pulled and inspired forward and being able to pull and inspire someone else forward.

That is always the position that we're in if we are aware of that position. So today let's get to it. How do we build more clarity? How do we build more confidence? How do we build more courage as a Christian? There's something that you desire to do that you've not done. There's something that you desire to pursue that you've not pursued. There's something that you desire to participate in and you have stayed on the sideline.

because you lack the clarity in your own personal self. You lack the clarity in your own faith walk as to who you are, what you are, why you are. And so you're a little hesitant, right, to really go after it because there's not a great sense of the next word, confidence in why God created you and what God created you to be. And then, you know,

without clarity and without confidence, obviously the byproduct is a lack of courage because sometimes it's just gonna take some courage for you to ever get to where you wanna go, for you to ever step into that career, for you to ever step into that position, for you to ever start that ministry, for you to ever do whatever it is that you have in your heart to do. At some point it's going to take courage.

is going to take you doing something you've never done before in a space you've never been in before with people that you've never been around before. It's going to require that at some point, and it is the clarity and it is the confidence that fuels the courage that is required for you to be delivered in your own way, for you to come out of bondage, for you to come out of that ⁓ slavery, for you to come out of your own Egypt.

You feel me? Is that Moses experience, you are being pulled out, summoned out, called out of your own personal Egypt into your own personal promised land. But these three C's, this clarity, this confidence and this courage, it's required to get you there. And so today I want to share with you what got me there, what got me in motion, what got me going, what got me not only motivated,

but sustained and sustains currently my motivation to pursue the things that I believe that God has created me to do. Here it is, you ready? Spiritual gifts. You have a spiritual gift and you cannot, mean, you wouldn't believe and maybe you're one of them actually, right?

But you wouldn't believe how many people I've spoken to, Christians, where I've simply asked the question, hey, do you know what your spiritual gift is? And they'll say, no. I'll say, have you ever taken a spiritual gifts assessment? No. Have you ever heard of what the gifts of God are? No. This is like a superpower that is being like,

not so much suppressed, but it's just like, it's not being activated. Think about it like this. You got Clark Kent, right? Maybe you've seen Superman before, right? Okay, you got Clark Kent, and then you got this ability to transform into Superman, right? Superman can do things Clark Kent can't do, right? So the Clark Kent guy has to transform or activate

the Superman within him in order to do things that Clark Kent and the other, you know, personality is not able to do. I want you to think about your spiritual gift like a Superman. And if you're a woman, you find your, you know, superhero, right? That's a woman, maybe a storm from the X-Men or maybe it's Catwoman, right? From, I believe that's DC Comics.

But nevertheless, right, you find your own superhero that you can use as an example. And I want you to use that. Like that's in you. That Superman, that incredible Hawk. Have you ever noticed, and this is pretty dope. Have you ever noticed how superheroes, for the most part, right? I'm not saying all of them for my superhero buffs out there. I'm not saying that this is a all inclusive statement, but for the most of them, right? For the most part.

Most superheroes live as one person. They go by one name. They identify as whatever, right? Clark Kent. And for the majority of the world, they know Clark Kent. But within, on the inside, that spiritual DNA, that DNA on the inside, there is another part of them that is available, that is accessible.

that is innate, it's a part of who they are, it's woven into the fabric of their being, there is no separation, it's in them and they can tap in, right? They can tap in, Spider-Man, right? Tap in, right? There's things within his body, right? That you can tap into. ⁓ Venom, right? Remember Venom? You know, I forgot Venom's like normal human name, but like,

We just watched the last one and he walks around as the guy, but at any point in time, he can unleash, he can let out the venom, right? So anyway, my point is your spiritual gift is powerful, man. It's powerful and you got one. Everybody has one. In fact, we have multiple, to be honest. Every Christian, every person, God was no, what they call it, God is no respective person.

God didn't pick favorites and, you know, picky and choosy and all that. God poured out his gifts on all of humanity. Every person, every man, woman, and child has a spiritual gift. The only thing that's different that separates us when I don't even like using that word separate, but the only thing that, distinguishes us is that there are those of us who know what ours are. And then there are those of us and that might be you who, who don't know, right?

And God's not keeping it a secret. God's not keeping it from you. ⁓ It's just a level of awareness that spiritual gifts exist. They're right there in the Bible, and we're going to go over some today. They're right there in the Bible, and He calls them out right there. And there are so many assessments online that are absolutely free that you can take, and you can begin a journey. You can begin the process of discovering what your gift is.

⁓ what it represents in the body of Christ and humanity as a whole, how you can access it, how you can utilize it, how you can improve upon it, how you can increase it and elevate it, right? And you can really start to institute it in every area of your life. That was the case for me. All right? And so I'm going to actually share my screen with you because I want to share with you what my spiritual gift is, one of them at least, and

how I've incorporated it into my life to see so much success, personal growth, development, advancement in life. And then I wanna invite you to take the assessment and begin down this journey, down this path, man, of self-discovery and understanding what God's given you. All right, so let me put me glasses on. think I'm gonna use these glasses today.

And let's get into it, man. Let me share my screen. my spiritual gift right here, go ahead and share it. ⁓ My spiritual gift is that of a teacher. Okay. And just to show you how easy it is, right? Cause I want to remove all anything that's going to cause you to shrink back and not do this, right? I want to remove all obstacles. Literally, you can just type it in, right?

Now this is because I already know what mine is. So I just typed it in and this is ⁓ just a normal Google search. Okay. So the Google search brings up spiritual gift of teaching. And this is just a quick overview. But again, when you take the assessments, it's going to really break it down for you, give you examples, show you how to utilize it and really put it to work in your life. But let me just read the definition real quick. ⁓ So the spiritual gift of teaching, a divine

God-given ability to communicate. And I just really want to emphasize that because this definition says biblical truths. And that's true, that's true. I do have that ability. However, I want you to know that this is universally applicable, meaning as a teacher, I'm able to communicate effectively, just communicate. Whatever content you give me, whatever...

space or place I find myself in, and I've been doing this for over 25 years, I've known this for over 25 years, ⁓ I can effectively communicate in any space with any audience, with any crowd, with any subject matter that I'm given, okay? So it's a universally applicable ⁓ gift. The reason I share that is because I want you to know that the gifts are not only to be applied in a Christian context, it's not only to be applied within a church context.

It is to be applied in any context as you are living and doing life on a normal, everyday, regular basis. And that's where the empowerment really comes. Okay. But let me just finish out the definition and then I'll get back to the full screen. spiritual gift of teaching is a divine God given ability to communicate biblical truth clearly. That's the key. Clearly, accurately, and relevantly.

enabling or empowering others to grasp, to be able to really comprehend it, right? To grasp and apply, to put to work God's word for their spiritual growth. Gifted teachers delight in studying, which I do, researching, which I do, the Bible or any subject matter, finding joy in the process of uncovering deeper truth and presenting them in a

understandable way. It's all about comprehension. If I speak a lot, but you don't understand anything, I've I've failed as a communicator. My number one job in life, in church, community, wherever I go, my number one job as a teacher is to communicate in such a way that you understand something. It has to be made clear to you. All right. So in relevant

or in relatable ways to inspire people to live according to biblical principles and build up the church. In other words, my gift is all about building you up. All right? So let me go ahead and stop sharing.

So I speak for the purpose, I communicate for the purpose of your edification, of your empowerment, of your equipping, of you getting better, right? And that's my soul's cry. I just wanna see you get better. I just wanna see you improve. And that's something that God gave me. I didn't give that to myself. It was revealed to me, right? 20 something years ago, Pastor Eric Brown said, hey man, come and teach.

15 minute message on the life of Jesus, Mark 1.35. I shared that 15 minute message, my first time ever teaching, ever sharing, right? Fresh from Toledo, Ohio, got here to Southern California. Pastor Eric gave me an opportunity to communicate to a group of men, right? I did that, fresh off the cuff. Pastor Eric walked up to me and he said, Treville, you are a teacher. After he said those words to me,

It was a rap. It was over with. For the last 25 years, ever since Eric said that, I've been fine tuning, working on, building up, developing my craft. Right? And some of you guys know my story about me stuttering. So I still have some of that here and there, stumble over words, get tongue tied. That still shows up. But I love that it still shows up because it gives someone else hope.

If I can stutter, if I can stumble over my words, if I can get tongue tied and still have, here it comes, the clarity, the confidence, the courage to still communicate, I think that's pretty awesome. I think that's pretty awesome that God would use one even as he would use a Moses. And I'm not comparing myself to Moses. Moses was great. I'm great. You're great. We're all great because we're all...

made in the image and likeness of God. So there's no ranking in Christianity if we were real with ourselves. But like a Moses story, Moses was afraid to go in and speak to Pharaoh because he was slow of speech. In my own personal life, I guess you could consider me slow of speech. I get tongue-tied, I stutter, I fumble over words. And yet I'm a public speaker and yet I'm a preacher and yet

I'm an author and yet I'm a podcast host and yet I'm a small group facilitator. ⁓ I'm a trainer ⁓ in corporate America, right? I'm someone that does presentations on a regular. I'm someone that trains the military on a monthly basis. I'm doing all of this communication and I'm sure there's some other ones that I missed, right? I'm a certified personal trainer, right? That's, you know.

instructing people on how to work out that's using my tongue, right? And so all of these ways that I've still been able to communicate effectively, yet having what many would consider a speech impediment or some sort of problem. I don't see it as a problem. I see it as the thorn in my side that God says, hey man, my grace is sufficient for you. I'ma still use you to speak. I'ma still sit you in front of folks. I'ma still put you up front. I'ma still put you on the stage. I'ma still send you.

And you're going to still speak for me. And I want you guys to see my clarity, my confidence, my courage, to be honest with myself and to be honest with you. And you too can develop this once you understand what your gift is, because your gift is not going anywhere. It's a part of you. You already have it. It's there. You just may lack awareness and appreciation and alignment and application. Those are my four A's.

of your spiritual gift. But when you do those four things, life transforms on every level. So let me go ahead and wrap it up. Let me give you some examples from my own personal life. Actually, let me give you one story of how I've applied this. And then I want to go ahead and start breaking down how you can get involved in this. right. So for me, the gift of teaching has been a blessing in so many areas. It's been a blessing in my marriage.

⁓ man, I would have to do a whole episode on that. Just my ability to communicate, ⁓ has put me in a position where I've gotten through some really rough patches in my marriage because of my love and thirst for the art of communication, which is really at the bedrock of any successful relationship. You got to know how to communicate in order for the relationship to succeed that includes your marriage. So this has blessed me in my marriage. I've got four adult children.

My ability to communicate and to teach has blessed me as a father. ⁓ Again, in so many ways, I just don't wanna go down these paths because man, you can get so wrapped up and just, you I'll be here two, three hours, okay? But it's blessed my marriage, it's blessed my relationship with my children, it's blessed me in the church, obviously. I'm a ordained minister, a pastor.

I have taught so many classes, courses from financial matters to spiritual matters ⁓ on marriage, right? And so just over the last 25 years, I've taught so much and I've been a part of the teaching process, whether it's on a Sunday morning from preaching or it's in small group sessions, et cetera. Okay. So that's really been a blessing in ministry. It's given me that clarity, that confidence and that courage in and through ministry.

And then lastly, one I think that can really hit home for people and you may struggle with is your career path. I believe that we were all created as contributions, right? And our spiritual gift is at the forefront of our contribution. It's how we communicate. It's how we contribute, right? To the betterment of our society. In your career path, I believe that your, that the best marriage is marrying your contribution, right?

which you've been gifted in with your career. When contribution meets career, boom, perfect, perfect scenario because it gives you the ability to earn money at the thing that you really enjoy. And there's nothing like bringing enjoyment to your employment. All right. So many of us, we're not happy on our jobs. There is no enjoyment in our employment. We go to work, we punch a clock, we do what we got to do. And then we are ready to run out of there.

We're like counting down the minutes, right? Before it's time to punch out. That's a telltale sign. That's a good indicator that you're probably not in the right industry. And listen, you got to do what you got to do, right? You got to put food on the table, clothes on your back, roof over your head. You got to do what you got to do until you can do what you want to do. All right? But the best scenario is matching up your contribution with your career. And so...

I've been in corporate America healthcare for 19 years. And at some point in that process, I was made aware that that's where God wanted me in terms of really having a very ⁓ stable and a very significant income, especially for someone who dropped out of college twice, who never went back, don't have an education, don't have any experience in this field.

I was blessed with a position that continued to elevate and promote me because of, here it is, the use of my gift. I don't know anything about healthcare. I didn't know anything about corporate America. Never dreamed of being in corporate America or healthcare. Didn't want to, but I knew I had four kids. I knew I had a wife. I knew I had responsibilities as a man. And so I had to do what I needed to do until I can do what I want to do. And so the more I did this,

the more I was unhappy on the job in and of itself, although I was providing for my family, until God revealed to me that I could elevate and advance my career on a financial level, on an influential level, ⁓ and just a personal satisfaction level, the more I could incorporate my gift or my contribution into my current career.

And so one of the things that I did was I, in a sense, repositioned myself as the communicator of the team. So although I was a systems administrator, although I was working with computers and computer systems, you still got to work with people. So someone's still got to send those emails, those mass communications. Someone's still got to do presentations. Someone's still got to train other people. Someone's still got a partner.

with the IT folks and partner with the leadership throughout the medical centers. And so I saw an opportunity for me to, in a sense, carve my own niche. Yes, I would still be responsible for projects and for the technical sides of things, but over time I continued to push, hey, you need a presentation done? I'm your man. Hey, you need somebody to get up front and talk about this product? Hey, I'm your man. you need somebody to go shake some hands?

at the medical center and build partnership, I'm your man. See, one of the things about public speaking is that it terrifies most people, but it comes natural to me. Most people, I think, beyond death and phobias like snakes and spiders and stuff like that, public speaking, I think, ranks right up there with the number one fear of most people.

Well, how valuable is it for me to take something that other people fear, but comes easy to me? How valuable is that for me to leverage in my career path, in a career path that I don't really care for, but I see opportunities to do the very thing that I love to do inside of that structure. And it's paid off for me. ⁓ Without going into any details, I I make a pretty good income.

And it's been able to feed the family. It's been able to provide for my children and provide for me. And we have a lot of luxuries and we have a lot of surplus and we have a lot of ability to contribute to others and give freely as God would have us to. We're in a really good place. But that's all because of the gift that God's given me and my willingness to increase my clarity to

to cultivate the confidence by becoming more more competent in my gift. And then the courageousness, the courage to have some conversations with my leadership, to be upfront and to be very intentional, to tell them, listen, this is where I feel my strength, like these are my strengths. I'm a great communicator, put me in the front.

I'm a great communicator. Send me over there. I'm a great communicator. Let me draft the emails. I'm a great communicator. Let me do the presentation. I'm a great communicator. Let me do the training. I'm a great communicator. And being courageous enough to keep pushing and pushing and pushing until I, in a sense, carved out a space where now I can be sort of that go-to person. And now I teach, I train, I communicate on a daily basis.

I'm still able to do the things that I want to do. I'm still able to podcast. I'm still able to public speak. I'm still able to preach on Sundays. I'm still able to train. I'm still able to write books. I'm still able to do all these other things in my part-time, but in my full-time for now until God transitions me out, then I needed to carve out a space for me so that I can enjoy what I'm doing in my nine to five. I believe that there is an opportunity for you to do that as well.

for you to see where you are currently and for you to carve out a space according to the gifts that God's given you so that you can enjoy life. When you discover your gift and you begin to work on your gift, your enjoyment of life goes up, your engagement in life goes up, your effectiveness in life goes up. Everything increases, everything elevates because you are in an elevated state of awareness as it pertains to what you are.

your value, yeah, your worth in this world. So if that interests you and you're like, yo, sounds good, you sold me, where do I sign up? Well, guys, listen, if you're on the tube or if you're on any podcast platform, the link is in the description for you. Take the assessment, man. Take the assessment. Discover your gift.
